This was beautiful. I certainly learnt something today. Amazing that brothers with the name Lumiere created an device so heavily reliant on light.

I actually remember learning how the first moving pictures were spinning devices with cartoons on them that moved while spinning by my grandmother who owned a similar toy. I find these moving pictures fascinating as it is the first depicted lives and actions ever recorded and shows a world not too different from ours.

To determine resistance of a galvanometer by half-deflection method and to find its figure of merit. To find the focal length of a convex lens by plotting graphs between u and v or between 1/u and1/v. To observe diffraction of light due to a thin slit.

Very well done. And the Lumiere prints are immaculate. I assume these have been restored? Most impressed with the brilliant and full lives of these two guys, the Nazi thing aside. From innovation in film technology to movie cameras to early cinema to research in medicine. Quite amazing.

Very interesting. Did you know that the first narrative feature film was the 60-minute The Story of the Kelly Gang (1906, Australia)?

First of all, don’t forget about Louis Le Prince and his films from 1887-1888! And second of all, damn! I didn’t know the Lumière brothers associated with fascists! Well that’s a shame to hear about, also I like how the brothers weren’t that passionate about cinema but George Méliès, who helped to pioneer fantasy and science fiction films in the 1900s, was, and he loved cinema despite how his career came to an end. I guess sometimes it’s the fans who help pioneer things rather than the original creators themselves.
