Thanks. I'm new to piano and reading music is difficult for me. I figured out most of it but you helped me get through the rest of it :) it's not as hard as it sounded at first, looking at all that sheet music can be kind of overwhelming.

J, I know what you mean, starting a new instrument can be very stressful, and sometimes it'll feel like you have such a steep mountain ahead of you. I'm glad I was able to help, keep up your piano work and never compare your playing to anyone else. With time and hard work you can do anything!

hello is a 22 year old allowed to learn to play piano?
@CoachJody5 жыл бұрын
Almost but not quite. As you get near the end of the first part, the left hand steps down through different inversions of the chords and ends with root E. It never comes back up once it starts going down. Right at 1:05 you need to actually play Em one inversion down and keep going from there. Have a close listen to the song and you'll see what I mean.

@lunabonae72904 жыл бұрын
Tyler Forsyth I learned it a few months ago and now I can play it with my eyes closed. The trick for me was to learn each hand separately and memorize them fully that way I didn’t have to think as hard playing both hands, it definitely still took me a long time to play it smoothly but I got there

@NBPiano8 жыл бұрын
+STACY P Hey Stacy! I'm sorry to tell you that I don't, I learned this piece by ear and writing out the notes would take several hours. I suggest to just watch the video at your piano and play each section like I do, and then rewind the video as needed. Sorry I couldn't help more, -NBPiano

Got the right hand down, but adding the left hand my mind and fingers don't jive. Any tips
@NBPiano7 жыл бұрын
Yes! When learning any piano song it's best to practice both hands separately, and then when you feel you can do both parts well, play hands together SUPER SLOW, and just keep repeating to gain muscle memory.
@Lostdwarf7 жыл бұрын
who else cracked out A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton with that right hand
@RainbowRomeo8 жыл бұрын
How do you do the pedal? I am having trouble with it sounds choppy esp the left hand, but I don't know when to do the pedal if I do need to use it. Do you play certain notes lighter than others or one hand lighter than others?
@NBPiano8 жыл бұрын
Hey Kendra, A good rule for the sustain pedal is to life it whenever the chord changes. Therefore, for example, you won't slur an E chord over an F chord. In this song you can get 95% of all the pedal lifts I do by just lifting the pedal right before you hit a new chord in the left hand, and pressing it when you hit the new left hand chord. Hope this helps!
@RainbowRomeo8 жыл бұрын
NBPiano Yes that helps so much! Finally got it finished and sounding right. Thank you for responding!

on a scale of 1-10 (1 being easy, 10 being very hard) how difficult is this for someone who just picked up the piano? (doesn't read notes)
@NBPiano8 жыл бұрын
This depends on how new you are to the piano, for a fresh beginner this could be a difficult piece (7-8). But you don't need to know notes for this one, you can just copy exactly what I do, so this may not be too difficult. Hope it goes well for you!
@WasianShortFilms8 жыл бұрын
I thought on the ride hand it was more of a right-left-right / left-right-left instead of just a right-left
@NBPiano8 жыл бұрын
+James Theus Nope! Just a simple right-left, makes things real easy.
@WasianShortFilms8 жыл бұрын
+NBPiano ok but do you hit the left hand note every three keys that you hit on the right?
@NBPiano8 жыл бұрын
+James Theus yes that's correct, probably should've mentioned that! so lets count out a number for every right hand note: 1 2 3 4 5 6 the left hand hits on 1 and 4.

@laurennicole047 жыл бұрын
Christopher Dio your left hand plays every third key your right hand hits.
@NBPiano7 жыл бұрын
Hey Christopher, When learning a new song on the piano it's a good idea to play a single measure very slow, and gradually increase the speed the the actual tempo. Since most of this song is the same, you only need to learn one rhythm before you can understand the whole song. Good luck!
@chaungo28318 жыл бұрын
Hello, can you show me the sheet music (if you have one)? I would be beyond thankful.
@NBPiano8 жыл бұрын

I just can’t play a slow rhythm in my left hand while my right hand plays a faster one. I always end up messing up.. lol uhhhhhh
@NBPiano4 жыл бұрын
Hey JV, don't worry, syncopation is always difficult at first. If you really want to master this (or any song) learn both sections separately, and once comfortable, start playing with both hands at a MUCH slower tempo. Go as slow as you need to play section, and practice at that pace until you can do it without mistakes. Once comfortable, increase the tempo a little bit, and repeat until you're at the full speed!

I have a piano and can some what play but my hands are the size of a toddlers hands even though I'm 18, the moral of this story is I can't play this song because of my baby sized hands.
@NBPiano7 жыл бұрын
That definitely is unfortunate, but not as uncommon as you think. In general, as you try to play more octaves, your hands might stretch over time. However if you really want to play this song, you can swing your right hand back and forth between the octave notes, if you practiced this enough I'm sure you could play this song!
