The Lunt 50/350 Solar Scope. Nemesis for Silly claims

unboxing the Lunt 50/350 f7 bp400 Solar telescope. A Hydrogen alphascope for observing.... the sun! specifically to look in the hydrogen wavelength to observe details on the sun and photosphere. So should be easy to see stellar cores drawing off plasma and eclipsing the sun. Of course if it is a sun simulator then that will be seen. Don't forget cross referencing with secchi and Soho images will be possible.... oh dear

The correct hex keys are usually supplied with the scope. Always check the blue blocking filter for "rash" a common problem.. They are about £15 from Bresser. If you need to replace the tuner O rings, be aware they come in two different sizes.

Hehehe. Indeed. I have done a comparison video some while ago showing our sun at the two extremes of our orbit. 3% difference in the suns angular diameter. Cool as!

Sadly I know longer have the lunt. Eyepieces we’re the 10mm from my skywatcher and I had another eyepiece that had a variable size which was adjusted by twisting the barrel ring on the eyepiece.

I use an 18mm Baader Orthoscopic gives me 19x and I use other orthos or TeleVue Plossls for very sharp views except my 6mm is a Perng 6mm because a 6mm ortho doesn't have but 4-5mm eye relief. A 25mm as you've discovered by now is too low a magnification.

The hex-head screws are English system, not metric. I didn't write down the size. I was still debilitated by the ecstasy of having found the hiding place of my english standard hex key set.

I use a couple of PST's the HA is a double stack the other is a Calcium K this solar imaging lark can get very addictive. Nice Lunt btw

The pressure in the air chamber changes the refractive index of the air, and this shifts the tuning band. Essentially the difference in pressure slightly changes the speed at which the light passes back and forth in the chamber (doppler tuning) and this very slight difference in the resonance between the two plates is what changes the tuning (or at least this is they way it is described by Lunt. This effect allows you to switch between viewing prominences and the suns surface detail.
