Thanks for this! I'm currently reading canto 4. I'm finding the canto difficult because it narrates a lot of Portuguese histories (especially the monarchy), which I'm not familiar to.

So now I know to familiarize myself with Portuguese history first. Thanks for that. Just one thing: in this case, it's familiar with, not familiar to; that would be from the opposite point of view. A is familiar WITH B. B is familiar TO A. Take care.😊

Besides lusiadas, I recommend the lyrical poems he wrote about his life and loves. My favourite is about Barbara, a “slave that has him enslaved” and the one he wrote about mistakes and bad luck 😄

You may also pronunce his name as kuh-MOYNS, so the S is like S and not like Sh, if you prefer it. In Portuguese it is written with a tilde, Camões, which makes the vowel O a nasal sound Õ.

Camoes is actually pronounced "Ka-Moynsh" as a sounds in Kappad
