Euclase I believe asks if there is any way to help Phos, and Kongo (and perhaps Aechmea) state that it could prolong Phos' suffering or mess up the whole process. Most of the gems are indifferent, but there is also a reason why they left Phos alone there.

And I know its not yellows fault but post dementia they are just such a different character. It's similar to caringorm with how they both transitioned into gems I dont like. I feel bad for yellow its depressing, but that's not enough to make me care for them. The real Yellow is dead in all regards to me.

I'm not surprised that nobody has noticed the little parallel that Cinnabar and Jade have, Jade was the first person that Phos forgot and judging from the manga and especially the anime, it devastated Jade how Phos forgot them, throughout the story Jade was always thinking of phos in a positive light hoping that they would complete the encyclopedia and always trying to make sure Phos stays out of trouble I always saw them as that overprotective older sister Hell she couldn't stand the thought of hurting Phos! But notice how phos doesn't even acknowledge Jades depression after Jade shattered Phos, also in episode 2 when Jade and Phos were talking about about fighting techniques and disregards Jades toughness as not being cool and look how it hurts Jade feelings, I feel like they wanted to be close to Phos too, sort of like be acknowledged by Phos, its all very subtle and it mirrors how Cinnabar wanted to be a team with Phos and be a friend, fast forward to the end of the fight with Jade apologizing for not being able to understand Phos, And Phos even says themselves "Huh? What are you even talking about!" Phos never really acknowledged Jade EVER! it mirrors how Phos couldn't understand Cinnabar and forgot the promise, so know the dialog in Chp 96 between Jade and Cinnabar makes sense. Jade understanding Cinnabars feelings towards Phos.....because in the end they were both forgotten by her........

Jade really is just put on the sideline especially by me (which is why I barely touched on them in my Euclase video) so this really enlightened me on their role and clearly shows the dynamic at play between Cinnabar and Jade in Chapter 96.

im so sad that Phos is left like this to suffer, she deserves better and im happy that some of the Gems, very few, think the same, Pad imo will do something, at least i hope but what i like about this series in general is that to make an opposite Force, antagonistic in a way, the series does not constantly introduce new characters to fill those roles, from very early on, the main 2 forces were established, and i love how Ichikawa writes these characters.

Basically she'd be less naive 😅

I had been anticipating Antarc (and the others) to behave like this for a while prior to the chapter, but man did it still HURT 😭 The way it was shown that the characters hardly care at all was done wonderfully. I also quite like the “disturbed” undertone this entire chapter had- the final panel especially cements it in place. As always, amazing video! I’m excited for all future analyses.

I feel like the gems with the most healthy relationship is the amethysts. They both care about each other but they also wanted time apart because they wanted to mature as their own person and even when phos proved to bring them together, they didn't mind since they felt like they had their own identity.

I heard a theory that when Phos saw her younger self after fusing with the mercury, it were Cinnabar's memories that caused that hallucination. If the mercury holds the memories of the young, innocent Phos, then that would fit with your theory of why she feels that way.

Honestly… i wasn’t even surprised at the reactions of the gems. None of them were really even bonded to Phos in the first place the way that we all thought. Phos was the youngest and didnt have a partner like padpa and rutile/ yellow and zircon/ etc. all of phos’ relationships were built on the dynamic of one gem wanting something from another gem or to prove themselves to another gem. Cinnabar was the only one to have that special partner relationship to phos, but even then, its an odd bond. I think that cinnabar is going to help phos, and only because their memories of the past keep them weighed down, unable to truly be with the lunarians/gem and be happy. I hope you get the gist of what i’m trying to say. The whole chapter I just had this bad feeling in my gut like “this is so wrong” and something huge is def gonna happen. Like it was supposed to be happy everyone is having a good time!!! But no…tbh i think ichikawa is gonna pull a huge one over on us for the ending, like something none of us are going to expect. All i know is we will be suffering.

I think Lapis can be brought back, but lunarians are too scared of their intelligence and their possibility to interfere with lunarian's plans. In my opinion we will see Lapis only at the end of the manga, when they won't be a problem anymore.

@@inspirashamul pad isn't that big of a threat to lunarians, thanks to their complicated situation with Rutile and their thoughts we see Pad in a sort of suspended state. Unlike Pad, Lapis would be a manipulator on the loose, who doesn't miss a thing, they would understand everything that is going on in that moment and lunarians' future plans for phos, and will surely find a way to bend them to their needs.

Phos should pray them up and out like Lysol and germs. Then use a few of those thousands and thousands of years to do what she was supposed to in the beginning research everything she can, possibly learn about technology from her past seeing eye. Then she builds herself some A.I. buddies, then she builds a spaceship and finds a interesting planet and decides to settle down on it. Through time the AI companions exponentially grow in intelligence fusing themselves with the gems and minerals from the strange world they found, multiplying into many different gem bodies each with their own personality. Becoming the primordial race of gems that later turn into the intergalactic empire of Gems shown in Steven universe. Not just tying the two stories together, but proving that one was actually a prequel of the other...

Maybe I’m just on pure copium but I still truly believe cinnabar will eventually help Phos. While her words to Jade may come across as convincing there’s also a large emphasis on nostalgia and an excess of time to only think about their past ‘mistakes’. But more then anything I found the paneling very intentional. Right before jade and cinnabar’s interaction we see enma and adamant seemingly respond to Euclase by saying there is something they can do for Phos and immediately after it turns to Cinnabar. Perhaps they are aware some of the gems will betray them to seek out Phos, cinnabar being one of them, and letting them go to the earth is all apart of their overall plan. I could be totally wrong but it’s definitely something to think about!

Although they believe working as a team is nice, it allows for the people around to get hurt so Phos takes on this journey alone and in turn forgets what was actually important all along. I’ve been waiting for your video on your thoughts from this chapter. Really interesting tier list. IMO the only gems that can ultimately save Phos is Phos themself. I believe Enma will use Phos head as a trump card somehow to try to convince/trick phos into prayer, but I don’t believe things will go as he plans. We have major players that haven’t been revealed to us yet being Kongos brother (the machine that doomed humanity), the ice floes (former humans), and Lapis. Lapis is an interesting one because we’ve never seen what they are truly like, we only heard hearsay from Euclases perspective. The reason why I think Phos will have to ultimately save themself, is because Enlightenment is gained from ones own effort to free themselves of suffering. I feel the 3 major players in this story can determine how the series could end. Kongos brother who destroyed humanity could represent Phos destroying everyone via prayer, the ice floes could play a part where everyone is somehow reborn as humans, or Phos with Lapis’s body could represent saving ones self because those two have become intertwined. Bonus theory: Euclase might side with the Ice Floes. In chapter 96 based off paneling we can see Euclase has risen to the ranks equal to Kongo and Enma, but what caught my eye is when Euclase is suggesting to do something for Phos. Both Enma and Kongo respond so they have their own plans but Euclase usually instigates incidents causing major events to happen. The reason why I think Euclase sides with the Ice floes is because she might have her own ulterior motive and wants to be reborn as a human along with humanity’s revival. Also Enma had planned turning Phos into a human from the very beginning, but having access to watching so closely to Phos required a spy. I believe Euclase was the spy for the Lunerians because they were able to keep a profile on both Phos being isolated from there peers but also Lapis who at one point, Enma stated that lapis head being transferred to phos was a vital piece of the plan saying “a clever mind is fatal.” Someone had to have reported to the Lunerians in order for them to know such information on these characters. Euclase is the antogonist to Lapis because both are so clever and I personally believe Euclase played some part in Lapis decapitation when Lapis smart nature started discovering the strange situation the gems were in. Oh well if anyone actually read all this thanks for taking to time to hear out my theories.

Ahhh love the Euclase with the ice floes side I never thought about it like that. Especially since Euclase was there when Kongo said the temperature was rising in the 80s? thats a really cool tie in.

The idea of Euclase rising to a similar rank of Kongo and Enma was also something I found a bit odd when first reading the chapter. I believe that being the leader of the gems would likely give some authority, especially early on. Yet, there's not really a need for Enma to really care about Euclase as more time goes on since all the Gems are complacent (outside of maybe Pad) to their new situation. Euclase seemingly being able to catalyze whatever idea Kongo and Aechmea have seems to suggest Euclase's authority. However, there's a possible wrinkle in believing that Euclase catalyzes the plan. It may not be that Euclase is forcing the two's hand. By Aechmea and Kongo having a plan in the background without anyone else's knowledge, their approval for Euclase's request may not be them being able to push Aechmea and Kongo to use Plan B but rather approval to be involved in whatever plan they were cooking in the background. Also, Euclase's request "to do anything for Phos" may be entirely different than Euclase's previous plea to tamper with Phos on Earth. The plan may satisfy Euclase without really doing much to affect Phos back on Earth. I think the spy theory would be really cool, and there's some evidence to back it up. I thought of the possibility before Chapter 96 came out. Their physical constitution being two-sided makes them symbolically qualified for such a status (and the heterochromia Euc has and Phos eventually has is a weird parallel). They are one of the oldest, Yellow Diamond's memory is lacking, Kongo is always sleeping, and Pad's condition allows for time for Euc to do their own thing. There's some strange parallels between Enma and Euclase, such as their claim to Phos' core desire. Chapter 96 shows Euclase's relationship with Enma is strangely lacking in tension. Their antagonism with Lapis may be rooted in recognizing the threat they have not to the Lustrous society, but some sort of plan that Euc and Enma planned beforehand. Maybe Enma ensuring Euclase's safety on Earth could serve as a fitting motive. Euclase's comment of Chapter 86 about "something good on the horizon" may not be irony but something true with Euclase performing as some sort of required actor for the invasion to the go the way the gems wanted. Some critical problems need to be resolved, though. In Chapter 56, a Lunarian worker states that they have never seen any Gem so cooperative. It is fair to have skepticism with Enma's reports, but to be skeptical about a random Lunarian would require an absurd amount of coordination on Enma's end. There needs to be situation in where Enma can make a deal with Euclase that is outside the knowledge of the common Lunarian citizens, and such an idea is hard to think of. Also, there would need to be resolution as to the relationship between Enma and Kongo, for Euclase and Kongo, in this theory, would have to be both be working under Enma while still not knowing that they are both spies to some extent. Kongo could very well be feeding the sufficient information needed for Enma such as Lapis' head. Also, Euclase expresses ignorance towards the origins of humanity towards Jade alone, which doesn't imply that Euclase is being performative. There needs to be a large amount of recontextualization to justify Euclase being a spy without any logical complications in some of their actions. I'm probably missing more amounts of conflicting evidence, too. I don't really have a rebuttal towards Euclase working for the Ice Floes and as to why they would do that outside of a lack of supporting evidence. There is the connection between Euclase's weather reporting and the rising temperature mentioned by Kongo, but lack of clarity between the relationships mentioned earlier take effect here, too. I have my own theory over why Euclase is being more of an instigator this chapter which does not relate to anything towards the Ice Floes.

I wanted to discuss a few points you made and hopefully get your thoughts. The first paragraph you stated that Euclase isn’t forcing the hand Enma and Kongo and I agree with that. In my view Euclase does exactly what she had proclaimed was a dangerous trait of Lapis Lazuli, and that is “she gives the parties just the necessary amount of information to let them decide for themselves.” Euclase has done this multiple times swaying not only the characters of the story but also the readers perception of the truth as well. My point is that Euclase is very subtle in how she manipulates the situation by putting in minimal effort to not attract suspicion herself but at the end of it Euclase has been involved in the most major events of the story (Phos imprisonment for 200 years because of Euclase had suggested to come up with a plan where no is left behind, rising to power as the leader of the gems after Phos first escape to the moon, and turning all the gems to Lunerians because they let Euclase decide for them. The third paragraph you mentioned Enma not telling the Lunerians of his plan but I believe that’s the point. Enma is purposefully withholding information to parties he believes doesn’t need to know. Ultimately his goal is to receive prayer for the Lunerians but they might not be supportive of the idea that all races will be destroyed from the prayer. As we can see some Lunerians have formed kinship with the gems before the gem to Lunerian transformation so it would run risk and possible opposition to let others know. The last thing I wanted to discuss was possible motive for Euclase to work with the Ice Floes. A common theme throughout the series is being a savior. Enma taking the mantle of savior for the Lunerians, Kongo savior mindset for denial of prayer for the gems, Phos savior mindset for all the races, and that leaves the ice floes who are trapped to their coffin. Also bonus fact: if you look at paneling from the first chapter when all the gems are running past Phos, Euclases gaze is affixed on Phos (a hunch of mine on why she was already the spy.) @@Cody-ym2ih Also I forgot to add the part where you mentioned it was possible for Kongo to supply information to Enma but I personally don’t think Kongo would do that. Even though Kongo did put the gems at risk by not revealing the truth, I truly believe Kongo loves the gems and proof of that is his refusal to pray for the Lunerians. I don’t think he would put them at danger by selling them out but I do believe that the way he approached the situation ended up causing damage to the gems as whole which is why in the end Euclase took leadership for the gems and Kongo stepped down from the position of being their master. Kongo and Enma definitely have an alliance as Enma freed Kongo from eternal damnation as a machine but I still don’t believe Kongo would sell out any individual (besides Phos as that was more like unfortunate events which led up to that.) At the end of the day Euclase parallels with Kongo, being Kongos refusal to pray to protect the gems while Euclase has essentially sentenced all the gems to eternal damnation via the gem to Lunerian process. That decision alone is proof the Euclase doesn’t care for the gems in my eyes because immortality caused the Lunerians to become feral and continuously attack each other (in the hopes of dying but failing ironically) until Enma appeared.

This chapter hurt a lot. I expected some more divide between the former lustrous. But now I only have hate for almost everyone in this cast. The one who I don't feel just pure rage at is Cinnabar. But even then I still am anger at her. I honestly feel no one is going to be able to help phos. I'm just wanting at this point phos straight up denying to pray to all their faces before just cutting them all down. Phos power is potentially significantly higher now then anyone in the cast. And after all this pain I want phos to find some kind of payback. I know that's kind of against everything the story has been setting up but I cannot find myself able to forgive anyone in this unless some kind of retribution is had.

@@inspirashamul Yeah. I read rhe final chapter just last night. It honestly makes me unsure what to feel. There of course feels like a lot of missed potential with the story. Of how the former lustrous drifted apart and really let go of their past relationships in the end. But thinking on it, even as a type this, I guess it all makes sense. Land of the lustrous to me about life. To live is to change and to grow. And phos grew before everyone they knew. They lived and none of the other's got to live before their change. We all grow apart as we live and what we thought mattered before changes. That's what makes this story so polarizing to me. I can't say that I'm 100% happy with the series as a whole, as of right now, but I can admit it's probably the closest thing I ever got to feels like it gets life. It feel real despite it's setting. I do miss the more action set pieces of the earlier story and rhe dreadful melancholy of the middle chapters. But the ending is still undecided for me. I just hope whatever Ichikawa does next is as brilliant as Land of the Lustrous.

I've seen this question asked, and while there's nothing confirmed, there's a few theories. Chapter 95 confirms that Diamond is a Lunarian, so for Diamond to still be Diamond, either it was a retcon on HnK's behalf or there is a way to convert the Lunarians back to gems. I am doubtful of either. The idea that I like the most is that the shine is not from Dia's body, but from something else. It could partially be a reflection of their jewelry, but I don't think the angles of where the shines happen entirely line up. Dia being covered in glitter or synthetic diamond is something that isn't confirmed but also possible and hard to argue against if Diamond being a Lunarian remains as is.

Man there's no way cinnabar thinks nothing of Phos now aside from being a traitor. Phos was literally the only one to have cared so much about cinnabar and was always there finding out solutions for Cinnabar to be freed from the loneliness of the night. And Cinna has to realize that they're all happy now on the moon precisely because of what Phos did, the betrayal and shit even tho it was a set up from the very beginning.

Sadly, even though I thought Euclase cared for Phos and their suffering It has been made pretty clear to me that Euclase is all talk and no action. I really thought that maybe someone would do something. The only one that could save Phos in my opinion, is Phos themself. If they were to remake the original Phos, and knowing Phos persistent determination for change would be curious about the Earth Phos and find a way to learn and discover once again. Therefore, once again, wanting change and anything to get it. Who knows at this point lol. Great video btw. :)

The land of the lustrous anime closing spoils the ending because it shows that Cinnabar will help Phos destroy everything and begin their lives together. The reason Cinnabar helps Phos is that before Cinnabar became a Lunarian, Phos put Sensei's eye into his mercury-in-fused head, and that joined them both mentally. The reason why Cinnabar may be feeling nothing for someone he cares about is that his emotionally combined with Phos's traumatically betrayed mind, which is no longer capable of feeling emotions for family members who betrayed him.

I'm holding out for hope folks!!

I think the thing about Lapis not being able to be revived is actualy true, so far the Lunarians never lied about their projects, Phos got dupped a ton of times by Enma, bc he manipulates by omission. When a new info is actualy given by the lunarians, it's later shown that it's true, like in the lake where the inclusions were found, the wouldn't be able to turn gems into lunarians with the dust they had on the moon, they used the pure Ice crystal on the lake.

I don't feel bad about what happened to phos at all. Phos didnt hesitate to betray sensei despite him raising phos and siding with his enemies. To the gems who stayed back with sensei phos might as well be dead since he instigated the other gems to side with the lunarians. In the first place phos didn't have any strong bonds with the other gems. Even with cinnabar they never communicated properly and was based on a promise that phis never fulfilled until he decided to defect. Antarc loved sensei above all else and was the reason he decided to take care of phos in the first place. Ofcourse he's not gonna be happy about phos betraying sensei. Phos got attached to antarc out of survivors guilt. Phos also tried to force sensei into praying. Now phos is being betrayed and forced to pray, something he himself tried to do to sensei. Pretty much all the characters are pursuing something for themselves instead of each other. All the characters are interesting for me cause if you think about it none of the gems are exactly evil or antagonistic. Whether it be the lunarians, the gems, or even phos I feel like they would've had it coming. Personally think the descendants of flesh will be the last ones standing since they are the only mortals and seems to be sidelined for now. Because they have infinite time immortals don't have the same values and ideas ones who have a limited time do. And to me they are the most similar to humans

I would think that Padparadscha and Ame 84 would help try to solve something with Phos. Phos was the one who got everyone to the moon, despite it being behind malicious intent of getting rid of them to get to Adamant/Kongou. But I do feel like we might see a Lapis with Phos's head, revealing the thinking process over the entire span of the arc that Phos went through, thus influencing the others that getting Phos back would be the right thing to do. However, there is a problem. If they are to bring Phos back, how would they do so while completing the objective the Lunarians were after, having the One pray for them and being released from their eternity.

Yeah that's the inherent problem. Saving Phos means giving up on salvation and it seems the Lunarians (Enma) will not rest until that happens. We shall see in Ch 98 if something happens.

There is also the theory that, they will reconstruct phos on the moon with the missing/stolen body parts. So we would have a phos on the moon and a phos on the earth. I really disliked Antarc's apathy towards Phos' situation after they came back and the idea that after the winter arc Phos didn't mean much to them. It made it seem as if all of Phos' trauma and grief over losing Antarc was for nothing. All this worry for a gem that didn't seem to reciprocate in the same way just feels so cruel to Phos. I want to believe Antarc asked about Phos out of genuine worry and feels for Phos in the same way Phos does Antarc, because it was Antarc who seemed to show any kindess and understanding to Phos.

Also remember that Phos conflated their relationship to something it wasn’t because of the trauma they received while Antarc didn’t really have to process that across hundreds of years since they just woke up to their teacher.

LOL yeah Bort was like the biggest question for me since I'd imagined their mental image of themselves is with the long hair but it seems the peaceful Bort's physical structure is what was transferred over. It gets me thinking if Pad still has holes under the lunarian clothes or not.

it really bugs me how the lunarians want to turn everything into lunarians. i don't see why they can't just help the admirablis, treat them like humans and give them food like they intended. and obviously they shouldn't have turned all the gems into lunarians. it's just really weird, it isn't better for them to be lunarians. especially for the admirablis. if they turn all the earth admirablis into lunarians, eventually gems will stop being made. and there will be no life left on earth. this is stupid. just help the admirablis instead of just letting them starve and turn to animals.

I don’t think they want to turn everything into Lunarians but they have the least amount of “problems” because of their form. But they are taking out the autonomy of the other races which is pretty messed up.
