In test runs on the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit, which represent the ultimate yardstick for brand-typical dynamics, agility and handling precision for all BMW M cars, the BMW M4 CSL posted a lap time of 7 min. 15.677 sec. on the version of the track traditionally used for comparison purposes - which is 20.600 kilometres / 12.8 miles in length (it doesn’t include the straight at section T13). The official and notarised lap time for the 20.832-kilometres / 12.9 miles circuit (the complete lap) was 7 min. 20.207 sec., the best figures ever for a series-produced BMW car. The BMW M4 CSL set a new official record in the middle class segment.
BMW M4 CSL:
Provisorial values: Fuel consumption weighted combined in l/100 km: 10.1-9.8 (WLTP), CO2 emissions weighted combined in g/km: 227-222 (WLTP)
Official data on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions were determined in accordance with the mandatory measurement procedure and comply with Regulation (EU) 715/2007 valid at the time of type approval. In case of a range, figures in the WLTP take into account any optional equipment. For newly type-tested vehicles since 01.01.2021, the official data no longer exist according to NEDC, but only according to WLTP. Respekt und Anerkennung für diese gute Leistung und Arbeit der M GmbH von BMW!!!!Ein Super Auto, was brutal ist auch von der Optik her sehr geil!!!! Ich hoffe das so eine Version vom M3 , M3 Touring und M2 auch noch kommen wird !? Es wäre sehr geil wenn ihr eine abgespeckte Version vom M240i Coupe raus bringen würdet mit einem 2,5 L 6 Zylinder als tii Version das würde ich Feiern, vielleicht werden Träume ja war :D Aber echt Hammer 🔨 brutales Auto was Potential zur Legende hat!

Only 0.3 seconds faster than the 5 year old Camaro ZL1 1LE which is half the price €70k, and on much slower tyres. Quite poor from BMW.

@@Hack_es what does 'middle class' mean? It's a £140k 2 seater. The AMG is also a £140k FR 2 seater but went 5 seconds faster. The GT4RS is a 2 seater but £105k and much faster. Again, poor effort from BMW.

I have seen the Video from the blinking Dacia Record Lap and I haven't seen any difference between these two Cars. The same speed and performance 😂😜

I remapped F82 M4 with ohlin coilovers did a 7.20. For the money this is seriously not impressive. Way too heavy.

For anybody interested, i stopped the times at various sections where the care accelerates in a straight line from 100-200, added them together and divided them through the times i stopped and calculated that it accelerates from 100-200 in around 6.48 Seconds which makes it over a second faster than the G82 Competition

@Joe Rogan is alive! round about 7 seconds did bmw say, but they also said the m4 csl have 550hp, but it has 570-580. It surely goes 100-200 in under 7 seconds.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's actually under 6 seconds. The M5 CS has a low 6s time, and it was almost 15 seconds slower than the M4 CSL around the track. This car I think will be even faster in acceleration.

@@shahan484 thats not correct, it must be a stock car. you can change tires, pressure but nothing else. otherwise the official lap time doesn't count. Nürburgring GmbH is checking that.

​@@nivek4222 could be, the time measurement is right behind that corner so it doesnt really matter. If the driver knows his session is ending they take that last corner pretty aggressively.

2018 ZL1 1le did 7.16 with 650 hp and about 100 lbs heavier so yeah this is probably 600hp.

Wirklich ein schönes aber vorallem technisch ein tolles Auto! Super gefahren, es ist einfach eindrücklich sowas zu sehen. Ich bin begeistert wie stark die Vorderachse ist. Um schnell und sicher fahren zu können benötigt es nicht nur einen tollen Fahrer sondern genau so eine Vorderachse die das übermitteln und performen kann. Hut ab BMW M! 💪🔥🍀🙏

Excellent driving skills, amazing lap once again! The F82 M4 GTS seemed a bit more stable than the G82 M4 with its downforce aero package. The two cars had a 30km/h difference at the end of the long straight. Goes to show what that extra 50hp with less drag can do. As expected though the G82 CSL is an absolute beast. Can't imagine what an even more extreme version can do 😁

04:29 I love this section of the Nürburgring ever since I had to master it on Gran Turismo 7's IA-10 License Test onboard of the Mercedes-AMG GT-R. If you start the video at the same time as the game's license test, the M4 CSL proves a really impressive performance for such a large coupe body, compared to the GT-R monster. Congrats BMW.

@@AKK5I Same! Hopefully they add more BMW M models to GT7, but Polyphony Digital seems to only care about japanese brands. They got lazy with the german car selection, even previous titles had way more models than GT7. I’d like them to add models like the M2 CS, M5 CS, M3 F80 and G80, M4 F82 and G82 and something fun like the M5 E60 or the 1 Series M.

@@Amarjit_Singh yea but it's a very expensive track special. Its a lot heavier than a stock F82 M4. Which is mad. The equivalent porsche is over 300kg lighter. Revs higher, sounds better. I really think BMW missed the point of this car.

I think so too in some sections. But at the end of the day he was the driver so he knew what he felt. I don’t know if this has xdrive. But if it doesn’t then there’s that risk it’s arse will twitch if over doing it. But it looked stable enough but like I said it’s hard to know unless you’re driving it if he could of in that moment.

Somewhat misleading title. The lap record is held by a Porsche 911 GT2 which did it in 6:38. I read the description "in the middle class segment". Beyond impressive and the driver and car came together to make that happen, not trying to take anything away from that. Words are important lol.

Why didn't BMW bother with M5CS official lap time? Seen that it's the top ///M flagship model..I think it deserved an official lap especially in summer, with Pilot Cup 2s/Cup 2 R tyres. Even standard M4 xDrive beat it by a whole second. And Sport Auto did the laps..a car mag outlet.. not BMW official But 7:20 is a killer of a time for a coupe road car. Absolutely phenomenal. I predicted 7:15 - 7:20. And it got 7:15 on the short track, 7:20 full length. Everything faster is either a hyper/supercar..or a track car with the names GT2/GT3/GT4 or GTR in the names. I reckon with a proper wing, some more aero parts at the front and an improved diffuser, it can probably beat it by atleast 5s-10s

Because as impressive as the M5CS is, it’s still too big and heavy for real track use and enjoyment. I always maintain that a real fun drivers car should not exceed the size of a 3 series.

CSL was always the absolute Highlight of m3 generations. It seems this generation got much too heavy. Now it cannot even compete with a Cayman gt4.

I don't get why it still have classic automatic tran like some diesel 5-series. And is that a reason why driver steps on a throttle many times during cornering? Thats not the way we all learned during all these racing school lessons. With this, it does not seems like well ballanced car with good throttle response, which current "basic" M4 is not. And what about the 1625 kg of weight? Old CSLs must be spinning in their graves! Anyway, it's fast. But I can't get rid of feeling it could be even faster in corners and that BMW lost the track completely during last few years. Where all the good engineers went? To Audi and Hyundai?

Pretty sure that the 7:16 time was using the old track length (20.6km), the new track length of 20.832km was introduced in 2019.

When you look at the ZL1 on paper, why should the M4 CSL beat it? Are you implying what they built is underwhelming because it doesn’t beat the ZL1? I’m pretty sure ZL1 makes WAY more downforce to go with +100HP on paper over the CSL… I say job well done BMW 🙌

(Mechanical design engineering background) I was seriously hoping for: a) A 200kg mass reduction. With advancements in FEA this was accomplishable, it's lazy from the engineers to just rely on lighter, basic parts. b) The rear aero is clean and the ducktail bootlid balances the car beautifully. But the front aero-wings on the bumper look cheap and ruin the aesthetics. c) It should SING! And it doesn't. Unlike the E46, it has no carbon airbox growl and no high pitched, tinny rasp from the exhaust. Why did no one think to get Yamaha involved with the development. d) The alloys need to POP, similar to the F82 GTS'. Besides those critiques, I love the M4CSL 🙌🏽

A) only reducing 100kg was most likely not ‘lazy’ but probably due to the budgets they wanted to spend; Or let’s say that 100kg saving was the amount which was possible to keep the sales price affordable Yes you might me able to cut weight on each single part of the car by specific design, material and manufacturing: But that car would be priced at one million € afterwards C) there are a lot more noise regulation now compared to the E46 times D) what do mean by alloys need to ‘pop’ ?

@@Max.44 C63 S is M4 Competition rival, CS/CSL variants are above the Competition variants. Moreover that lap you're referring to was with the W205 C63 which competed with the F82 M4.

@@Max.44Base models of both AMG GT and 911 and all M4 models are sportscars and certainly there's an urge to compare the GT R and M4 CSL, as Mercedes doesn't make a comparable C63 variant to the M4 CSL otherwise not. There also have been many comparisons conducted by auto KZbin channels between a M4/M3 and 911.
