This is inaccurate. (Yes I nearly wrote a book here, and spoiler alert by the way.) The inner ring did not spin, or tumble, around like the second, third, and outer rings did. The inner ring starts nearly vertical with field coil assemblies spinning around the inner surface of it on a rail and bearing system, while the second ring tumbles end over end on a random rotational axis, on the outer surface of the inner ring and inside of the third ring. The third ring tumbled end over end and was canted at about a 45 degree angled axis of rotation to the outer ring. The outer/forth ring was stationary in a horizontal position until the booster rockets were fired at around 70-75% causing the outer ring to rotate and tumble end over end on a horizontal axis, and further enhance the 3 dimensional rotations of the second and third rings. As the velocity increased the inner ring would slowly tilt more and more horizontally, until at 100% it was completely horizontal with the other rings spinning and tumbling around it. The inner ring's field coils spun at very high speed on the rails on the inner surface of the ring, and in addition to energy production and release, they produced centripetal force that stabilized the inner ring. Its energy combined with the 3 dimensional energy inputs of the other 3 rings created a micro singularity at the center, or core of the machine. The singularity was so powerful that the electromagnetic and gravitational forces it created pulled on the control vessel that was a good distance away. It was sucking the clouds and water droplets from the bay into the singularity at 100% velocity. The E.M.I. was so intense that it made the walls of the I.P.V. become transparent. The release of the I.P.V. was timed so that it would drop through the rings and into the core. Once in the core, space and time were "broken," for lack of a better term to explain it. She existed simultaneously in the core of the machine as well as the other places she visited. First she entered a wormhole, travelled to the Vega star system, where the listening probe for the aliens was, then she saw and heard the rings of the machine for just a second as she was yanked into the high energy wormhole "transit system." She exited at a planet with four visible stars, and a visible city and civilization, to which she said, "They're alive!" Then she hears the rings again, and is yanked into another more violent wormhole. It was very uncomfortable until she frees herself from the chair that was never intended to go in the I.P.V. pod. She was always supposed to float at it's center. When the pod was dropped she would have floated free, with no need for a chair. When she exits the wormhole, at her final stop, she finds herself close to the galactic core. She's overwhelmed by the beauty of it and says, "They should have sent a poet, it's so beautiful!" As her face morphs into that of her childhood face marveling at the stars with her Dad and her telescope. The aliens read her thoughts about her Dad, and Pensacola Florida, and recreated an other worldly version of the beach with and amazing night sky. She reaches out and feels the inner wall of the I.P.V. pod and realizes that she's still in the pod. The representative of the alien race approaches, appearing as her dead father, and tests her intellect. When she realizes that it isn't her father the representative realizes that she's a scientist and understands what she is seeing. He tells her that they decided to do it that way because it would be easier for her. He tells her about the long gone creators of the wormhole system, and how humans are an interesting mix, capable of such amazing dreams, and such terrible nightmares. That they feel so alone but they are not. He shows her the pattern of sparkling grains of sand in his hand, and tells her it's time for her to go home. She begs for more information, asks can we come back, can others come and see what I've seen? He tells her that contact and relations between their people's will come in small moves. That's how it has been done for thousands of years. Then he sends her home and in the same instant that she, and the I.P.V. pod, entered the core of the machine, it fell the rest of the way through landing in the catch net and pond. The 18 hours she experienced all occured in the microsecond that she was in the core of the machine. That's why she kept hearing and seeing the rings of the machine during each transition into a wormhole, she was existing simultaneously in the core of the machine, for one microsecond, and in three different locations in the Galaxy for 18 hours. Sceptics didn't believe her because from Earth's point of view, it only took one microsecond of being in the core of the machine. The I.P.V. just fell straight through the machine, as it passed through the core the one micro second/18 hour trip took place, the intense energy of the micro singularity dissipated in an instant, and the I.P.V. continued on to land in the net. The sceptics, (and forgive me James Woods, excellent actor,) that government prick out to make a career for himself picking her story apart, overlooked the fact that while the intense E.M.I. prevented her camera from recording anything but static, it recorded 18 hours of it that could not be accounted for. Thanks to Mrs. Constantine (Angela Bassett, an absolutely excellent actress I adore,) for pointing that fact out.

I think it's stupid how no one believed her yet no one else went into the machine. It's not like it was broken or anything. Why didn't the politician guy who was arguing with her calling her delusional just go in the machine himself?? That was really annoying...

I believe he was really acting in the best interest. At the very end, his blistering cross examination evoked a passionate, response from her that had the feeling of truth to it that many people recognized. A tiny bit later in the movie, he admitted that he knew about the many minutes that were missing on her video. He knew what was going on.

johnarmand1028 that's true. Not all of humanity was ready for their beliefs of singularity in the universe, creation, God and Satan, Heaven and Hell, and science and religion to be changed. Some religious fanatics viewed the message from the aliens, and the machine, as a danger to humanity, and a doorway to the apocalypse. So much so that one fanatic gave his own life in a suicide bombing, and destruction, of the first machine. The US Government saw the message, and machine, as a possible threat to global security, and a doorway to invasion and extermination. Humanity was simply not ready to embrace the interstellar community yet, and mass cult suicides, chaos, and even Inquisition style wars could result. Michael Kitz, feigning disbelief, knew the dangers so he purposefully tried to pick her story apart, and discredit her, so humanity could have the time it needed to mature, and know more, before becoming an active member of the interstellar community. He, seemingly the antagonist in the movie, actually had humanity's best interests in mind, and did the right thing at that time. Perhaps in a hundred years, or so, humanity will have matured enough for another contact.

...The interior mechanisms of the SDF-1 (Super Dimensional Fortress One) and its Protoculture Matrix are illustrated by the movie "Contact", based on a novel by Carl Sagan. The SDF-1 Protoculture Matrix was penned into the story of Robotech, written by Carl Frank Macek. This technological mechanism is shown in the movie "Contact", and when fully accessed by the life of Milner Benedict III; Milner Benedict III wins the trophy prize of The Matrix first and then Milner Benedict III immediately gave all the inner secrets of The Invid Flowers of Life and the technology behind Robotech to The Goddess for Her to do with as She wants and desires and decides!

I know this is weird but my friend was watching this movie the other night and i saw that the center ring actually starts out 90 degrees then slowly moves down, once at 100% it should be fulled at 180 degrees.... ya i know it doesnt matter. :P but im a perfectionist. :D

Pretty cool. but yeah, the inner ring doesn't actually move, it stays at a 45 degree angle the entire(?) time. I'm not entirely sure, but I think that the only ring that actually recieves energy is the outermost one. I don't know, I think I'll build a scale model of this eventually, the sphere would probably have a width of like 2 feet. But the mechanics of the rings seem strangely complex, I would have to study it for a while.
