In real life, it actually can, it is the F-35 and it has a booster rocket thing that can go vertical and hover.

F-35 is a VTOL Jet and the top of it intakes air with the engine pointing down for a vertical takeoff. This only works on the A and B variant. That explains the F-35, lol.
