Fun fact - Actually Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was HUGELY popular in poor countries like mine (Bulgaria), where official arcade cabinets where unaccesable and expensive, so arcade operators had to use bootleg PCB boards. In a lot of countries this game was called simply "Mustapha". The game was insanely popular to the point, that when someone sees an arcade cabinet, even if the game is different, he wouldn't call it an arcade cabinet, but just "Mustapha" :D

This game is hugely popular here in Brazil. If you see one or more arcade machines anywhere there is a big chance it is Cadillacs & Dinosaurs. It's a pity this game is such a licensing nightmare to be rereleased anywhere. One of the best Beat em Ups ever, better than even Alien vs Predator.

I absolutely love beat 'em up games and Cadillacs and Dinoaurs is one of my all time favorites, I still play it until this day whenever I remember it from time to time. Personally, I loved the tv show as a kid as well and this explains why it never continued, I think it was a really good show for the time and I don't know why everyone knows TMNT or Captain Planet, yet very few people I know remember this gem, though I was really young and I don't even remember the plot, I just know I loved it when it aired and I think I will download it after watching this video and watch the whole season. heard the home release never happened, because they could never license the Cadillac name, they could have just put the original comic game though, but I think they were not willing to invest in the game if it just didn't share the same name with the popular arcade release. Anyways thanks for the video it was really fun to watch you got one cool channel here so I'm happy to subscribe

@@KasumiKenshirou You can clearly see that the cadillac they drive has been modified to run on something other than gas, possibly steam and electric power. It looks like the only thing cadillac about this car is the old style emblem on the front and maybe the headlights and grille. You can see no emissions coming from the tail pipe, and steam coming from the engine mods on the front fender side of the car.

You might not know this, but in Bangladesh, where I live, this game is a perennial favourite. Just about everyone above the age of 20 who has lived in a city at some point has played it, and it's known to most as 'Mustapha' after arguably the strongest playable character in the game. The biggest reason for this is the fact that here, arcades became a thing for the first time back in '94, and this was the first (and for a while, only) side-scrolling beat-em-up we got to play. Titles like Captain Commando and Streets of Rage came along later, but this was and a quarter of a century later still is the most widely played (and loved) video game in the country.

Where I grew up, this game was the premier arcade experience. I can't think about that era without picturing this game and its crazy vivid colors. Most arcades had it but the machines were always packed. I had to go out early so I could play a few coins before the big kids showed up! Everyone played as Mustapha, because of his leg attacks. In fact, we called the game "Mustapha"! (Edit: Apparently, people in Morocco did too) I always found it weird that the rest of the world didn't really care about this game, I'm glad it's getting recognition lately and I hope they finally port it to a damn console already. On an unrelated note, I would drink Hannah's bath water.

I'd also say that the fact the cartoon was greenlit was because it was during thebig indie comic cartoon boom after TMNT and around the premiere of The Tick. I'm sure ones based off of big name publications like Batman TAS and X-Men also lead to this decision, but just go back and look at how many odd indie comics were made into kid's cartoons at the time. Sam and Max, Bucky O'Hare, Jim Lee's Wild C.A.T.s. I'd say The Mask and Men In Black as well, but those were obviously from the movies, even though the comics are credited in both instances. I'd tend to think the show would have gained more of a following if it was a syndicated weekday series, rather than a network Saturday Morning, with tighter standards and practices. The thing about Cadillac and Dinosaurs the game is that, if it was intended to be a tie-in to a kid's cartoon series, well... it's a VERY not-kid friendly game. The brutal difficulty aside, it's pretty damn violent compared to the TMNT, Simpsons, X-Men, and C.O.W.Boys offerings. And cussing. I just don't see it at a Chuck E. Cheese, next to some ticket based game like any of the others. Capcom made the game for an older audience than the cartoon's demographic, and the game is ALL the better for it. Also, the soundtrack SLAPS!

It's a damn shame it never got a home port. The current systems of the time would not have done such a pretty game justice. This is why emulation is so important.
