I think Bruno saw the proposal, but his visions don’t have sound. He assumed Isabela would say yes. It was a true vision, but misinterpreted. Dolores herself mentioned the family “grappled with prophecies they couldn’t understand”.

Delores would have been 14 when Bruno left. Until the age of five she would have shared the nursery with Isabella who is the same age and Louisa who is a bit younger. Everyone doted on Isabella and Louisa earned her attention by helping others. So Delores was rather "forgotten" I think she learned listen from the shadows. Even after getting her powers no one notices her unless they need her. Anyway there are a few times in the movie where she tries to tell people he is in the walls. The "rats" speaking in the walls. I am sure when he first went missing she kept saying he can hear him in the walls. It was dismissed as the "rats" so that is why she said the rats speaking in the walls and notice no one raises an eyebrow when she says that because no one really hears her they only hear what they want from her and then move on.

Maybe she was withholding information because she doesn’t want to be hated. Think about it, how would you feel if someone was eavesdropping on you and spilled your deepest secrets to others? You’d be pretty angry about it and Dolores’s powers mean she eavesdrops on everyone without necessarily wanting to. So to avoid being hated she probably developed a habit of not sharing everything she heard. With Bruno she probably could hear that he didn’t want to be found and decided it was better to just never tell anyone what she knew about him.

​@@ajstudios9210 I agree that she did, but I think because, like the rest of the entire family, she acted more out of fear and importance of everyone's powers disappearing on them rather than trying to be a fast gossip. Bruno wasn't hurting anyone just living in the walls of Casita so safely wasn't an issue, but most importantly her family and the town seemed happier without him because of his negative prophecies. Like she says in her part in We Don't Talk about Bruno, "Always left Abuela and the family fumblin, Grappling with prophecies they couldn't understand"...she knows that Bruno's prophecies made her family uncomfortable (especially her emotional mother) and they hold such a negative view of him. So for a movie that's strongly about doing things for the sake of family, Dolores not reintroducing herr estranged uncle that her family seems to struggle to be around is really no surprise.

Bruno’s prophecy already did come true. Mariano was betrothed to another, and was out of her reach. So the prophecy was accurate, even though they still ended up together. Plus, Bruno admits he doesn’t always understand his visions.

Well in the novelization of the film theres an epilogue that states that Dolores marries Mariano. While I find this interesting, I still think that the betrothal refers to Mariano and Isabela because even without the proposal it was very clear that the two of them were viewed as being together.

About the love triangle thing the mess of a relationship between Dolores, Isabella, and Marino IS actually a love triangle, just not the kind of love triangle you would usually think about. Their relationship would be classified as a "conga line" love triangle. Where character A loves character B, Character B loves character C, and Character C loves either someone else or nobody at all (see Overly Sarcastic productions trope talk on love triangles). So in this instance Character A would be Dolores because she loves Marino (character B), But Marino loves Isabella (character C), But Isabella doesn't love Marino, or anyone for that matter. So yes, it is a love triangle just not a classic love triangle.

My girlfriend pointed out the possibility of Delores lying about how many children Mariano wanted the first time she watched it. As for why she doesn't tell people about hearing Bruno, at the beginning Delores says she hears the rats talking, which implies to me that when she was a child she did say about hearing Bruno and would have been probably told off by the adults about suggesting that, so she's convinced herself it's the rats, even though she can't actually understand animals. I also believe that because the vision Bruno had of Mirabel could go 2 ways, he can't see the future beyond that point so all his predictions we have seen are only of the future up to the point where 'Mirabel' destroys or saves the magic. Betrothed isn't necessarily just about being engaged, but being intended or expected to spend their life with a certain person, so the fact that Isabella and Mariano weren't officially engaged is a moot point.

ok but Mirabel paired Dolores with Mariano because her and Isabela heard Dolores confess she's in love with Mariano in "We Don't Talk About Bruno"..... besides the director did say that Dolores' vision only showed Mariano betrothed to another....Bruno didn't say Mariano was going to marry Isabela. Listen, Dolores' vision was unclear and confusing which caused her to assume that Mariano was going to marry someone else so really Dolores caused her own pain with her assumptions.

The directors said that the "betrothed to another" part was not in Bruno's vision. Bruno just said the man of her dreams would be just out of reach, and Dolores, fearing the worse, and added the engagement part.

All of Bruno's prophecies are literal _visions_; that is, Bruno physically sees things which he then has to interpret. Worse, he tends to see snapshots rather than entire scenes played out, so his interpretations are based largely on appearances at a certain moment. If he saw Mariano on one knee proposing to someone and saw Dolores hovering in the background looking heartsick, that snapshot would lead Bruno to make the prophecy just as he did. It's the vision that is true and absolute, not the words that Bruno chooses to describe it.

After all the theories I've seen about Dolores, I really feel for the poor girl. If there's going to be an Encanto 2, I really hope that Dolores gets an happy ending. Especially considering the theory about her gift being somewhat of a curse. And also, yes, I believe that Dolores is more cunning then we think she is. The thing about the five babies, and the way she looked at Isabela (my favorite Madrigal) right after that, the gossiping during the dinner and the proposal, and when she mentioned at the end of the movie about hearing Bruno in the walls everyday. That's cunning to me!

Technically you can be betrothed but not engaged. For example Aurora in sleeping beauty was betrothed to Prince Phillip by way of their parents. They wouldn't however be considered engaged until they were adults. Mariano is also it should be pointed out a mummy's boy and by the looks of it the result of a late pregnancy. He's probably been constantly told as a child to define his life by his betrothal to Isabella. Dolores most likely understands this as she seems to be taking active steps to teach him how a relationship is supposed to work.

betrothed doesn't mean they'll get married, it doesn't even mean they'll be engaged. Being Betrothed means you are intended for another person so when Abuela and Mariano's mother talked about them getting engaged he was officially intended for Isabella it doesn't matter if the proposal flopped. Dolores almost had to watch the man of her dreams marry her cousin. also I don't know if she intentionally listened in on him all the time. if you're in a noisy area something will catch your attention. Mariano talking loud could have easily been what grabbed Dolores' attention and her hearing naturally attuned to his voice. Bruno's prophesies always came true but he wasn't always spewing prophecies. His prophecy about Mirabel was about her and Abuela's fight and how the family was divided and their Casita fell, but it was also about her being the only one who could restore their home and gifts.

Dolores tells Mirabel to go after Luisa, who then gets blamed for Luisa getting weaker after finding Bruno’s vision. Dolores also doesn’t keep her mouth shut and tells Camillo about Bruno’s vision, which starts a chain reaction of bad events on what was supposed to the day Mariano proposed to Isabella.

"Betrothed to another." I noticed it didn't say married. So, to me, it sounded like a description of what the situation would be as a sign; when she'd met the man of her dreams. If we were to interpret it in a permanent manner, they would be in a betrothed state until death. While this interpretation is funny, due to it requiring the world constantly through shenanigans to prevent the wedding day after day. For the people involved it would be a tragedy to have the intention to marry but never be able to follow through.

It seems to me like young Dolores just after Bruno “left” was either afraid to mention hearing him because as we all know, there’s a rule not to talk about Bruno. Or she did say something and Abuela told her it’s just the rats/her imagination and not to keep talking about it, so Dolores never brought it up again until she knew someone would actually listen to (and believe) what she was saying.

I also have a theory(Some other people probably have already made it) But Bruno's visions only went up to where casita falls apart and only a little LITTLE after,none of his visions showed after (to a long extent) Cassita fell apart.all the examples are from the past and mirabel's wouldn't go very far past cassita falling,the only thing that was past cassita falling was the butterfly, The butterfly was the only thing that was ever shown for after cassita fell,he couldn't see anything past the butterfly and that was so soon after cassita's magic could still have lingered a bit allowing him to see a little past cassita falling. Meaning Dolores's love life could still have a happy ending because he may have not bin able to see far enough, and Betrothed and Engaged are different but extremely easy to confuse or think that they are the same which would also allow for bruno or really anybody to say the wrong word by mistake, especially since the time Bruno would have had that prophecy would be a few years back it would be hard to remember which one was said.

I don’t believe Bruno was having visions though. Those aren’t real prophecies with the villagers though. It’s Bruno just being observant. Villager with a goldfish in the torture device of a bowl? Death sentence for the fish. Villager who grew a gut? Eat healthier? Exercise more? Villager who is bald? Receding hairline? From what I’ve seen from the film, Bruno is an awkward kid of guy who will do and say awkward things. If we look at Pepa’s “ruined” wedding. Bruno notices that she is sweating and saying something to Pepa which causes her to create a hurricane. This can be interpreted in two ways the first, he tried to get her to make it rain to hide the fact that she was sweating. Or second, (which I think is more likely) tried to make an awkward joke of it to try and put her at ease. With Bruno’s powers of observation, we can deduce that he noticed Isabela wasn’t happy with the arranged marriage and Dolores was secretly in love with Mariano instead. Which is part of her character. Where she is aware of many peoples secrets, she has a secret of her own.

THANK YOU! I have been saying that the villagers prophecies aren't real prophecies. He has to go through a whole elaborate thing with sand and fire, etc to see the future. You think he's going to do that in order to see your fish die? He probably saw the fish one day and said something like "Oh, your fish isn't looking so good." in an awkward way and the lady was like "MY FISH IS DOOMED!" I really think he just saw stuff around the village that needed 'fixing' and was trying to be helpful because that's what his mother would want and everything he said was taken as prophecy instead of simple comments.

remember, though, Bruno's visions take the form of pictures, not words. so the exact wording of Dolores' prophecy is probably simply her interpretation. likely the picture showed Mariano proposing to Isabella, and she assumed that meant they would be betrothed.

In the audiobook of Encanto, Mariano and Dolores do have a big, beautiful wedding. It has slight changes from the final script. I think that it was based on a second to last script of the animated film.

When Bruno disappeared from the Madrigal Family, Alma forbade any talk about him. Dolores would have been included. It wasn't until Mirabel returned with Alma and Bruno in tow that Dolores was finally free to mention that she had been hearing him the whole time.

Hmm, I personally think Bruno saw the scene where he proposed to Isabella (but due to the glitchiness of his powers), he didn't see everything going on around it, or if Isabella said yes. So he interpreted it as such, and told her in a vague way. I get the other theories, but looking at the way the movie is made, this is the most likely.

I don't like to be like this person, but this whole video was terrible. 1. Despite people repeatedly saying otherwise, Dolores mentions twice that she tried to tell people about Bruno, but it was clear that no one wanted to listen to her (which is the irony of Dolores -- she hears everything, but no one wants to listen to her, unless they want something from her, and then they just expect her to report to them, like living Google), so she felt it was almost being haunted by Bruno. The first is the mention in "We Don't Talk About Bruno", where she runs right to Mirabel to tell her all about it and that she's always heard it, very clearly. This even ends with her making very direct eye contact and asking, "Do you understand?", as if she has been trying to get someone to understand for the last decade, but they never listen. The second is during "All of Us" where she elbows Camilo and says she told him she heard Bruno every day. TWICE we are told this, yet people still keep saying, that she never said anything. It seems people are still not listening to Dolores. 2. So the whole theory on her being a cunning, manipulative liar is, "She could be"? Really? There is nothing to support it, and you just stuck it out there, like people missed all of these clues. Really? The thing is though that one of the writers (Jared Bush) stated that the line about Mariano wanting five babies was a lie, but you did no actual research other than maybe reading some Reddit thread, never mentioned it, and I'm guessing, never knew that. He said, the clue was the side glance she makes when saying this line. 3. "Betrothed" especially in older generations, where marriages were more arranged by the elders of the family than romances picked by the married couple, can also mean essentially "promised to be engaged". It can mean that there are formalities in the works for a couple to become engaged and begin working toward a wedding, which is exactly what you saw happening between Alma an Mariano's mother, where the dinner was the final meeting for the two matriarchs to work out the deal for the two to become engaged. In the many posts, interviews and discussions since the release of the film; they have also addressed Bruno's vision about Dolores multiple times. They said that she, like everyone else does (again, which we are repeatedly stated in the film) heard Bruno's vision and assumed the worst outcome -- if he was going to be just out of reach and betrothed to another (which is where is vision stops), she assumed that it must mean that they would never be together, because the couple would be married. Bruno didn't say that though. The only one that heard Bruno's vision and assumed the best was Isabela. I'm just really irritated by this, because you didn't do any research but put it out like you discovered things... when the only real "fact" you discovered, you apparently fell into by accident. I'm also irritated that while everyone in the story was struggling and doing selfish things or things they felt they were pushed and pressured into doing or felt they had no choice in doing (Imagine being forced to report on the man you were in love with, so that someone else could get him, and no one ever bothered to even pause to think about you or your feelings or even ask if you had any feelings.), but for some reason, Dolores keeps getting called out as "the secret villain". There is no villain in "Encanto". I am also bothered a little by the fact that the one person who is heavily coded as autistic is the one that is always targeted as being manipulative, plotting against everyone, etc, even when, like with your video, there are no indications given other than "Well, she could be.".

I think Bruno doesn't see everything in his visions. Like he sees something happen and mirabel is at the center when Casita is destroyed but he doesn't see the whole vision. In a lot of the visions he choose to stop seeing things once hes seen a possible bad outcome. So he doesn't see that mirabel also restores Casita and maybe he didn't see that the fish that died had babies or just because he sees something and saws something doesn't mean you have to accept it as fact. Like the gut and loss of hair if someone said to you you're going to grow a gut wouldn't you stress eat. Or lose uour hair I'd lose my hair over stressing about losing it. Life of Isabellas dreams would be promised and some day be hers.... THE LIFE OF HER DREAMS. Not Abueleas dreams. And her power did grow.... because everyone except her to be perfect and her power to be perfect and he said like grapes that grow on the vine not like flowers. And as far as Delores a couple things she didn't with hold she heard Bruno. It sounds like to me even if she told albuela she would not have listened because years after the fact mirabel had to yell at her that Bruno loves this family and two if your super power was hearing things a mile or more away would you share every thing. No because if you're a decent human you would respect people's privacy and even if you can't tune things out you wouldn't share it. And third Mariano was betrothed he was promised to Isa not engaged. It looked and sounded like Alma and marianos parents betrothed them and Mariano may have liked Isa so didn't argue. And had mirabel not pushed him to follow the butterfly during the second vision he wouldn't have seen a way to resolve the conflict and mirabel wouldn't have put Casita back together Isa wouldn't have discovered her imperfect power that grows like grapes because they're less perfect than flowers and so the man of Delores's would have been out of her reach because he probably would have gone through with the proposal.

He proposed to Dolores in 3 minutes. com'on .... Dolores has been honest and was pretty sad doing so, knowing everything. Mariano is a good man and deserved a woman who loved him. The vision was about Dolores loving a man that was not meant for her, and it was true.... why putting further speculation on things? Dolores already suffered from that, in silence. In the end of the movie everything changed for good. the villagers visions were not serious ones, while the ones about the family were not as direct. Dolores just know everything so she was cynic about the situation, not lying.
