The Maestro & the Apprentice

February 2024 8 year old Nykoda, AKA "Peanut" attended an organ concert given by Maestro Hector Olivera. Nykoda was excited to meet one of his "organ heroes" following the performance. Nykoda asked to play a piece for the Maestro, and he graciously agreed. For the occasion, Nykoda chose one of his favorites, his self-taught rendition of the toccata from Suite Gothique by Leon Boellman.

I met Hector, when he was a young man, and I was also a young man I was working as an apprentice organ tech for Organ Power Pizza in San Diego, and Hector was there to play the Foort Moller I’ve always remembered what a nice guy he was

Talent at it's very finest & rarest. This kid is gonna go far! He's a musical prodigy. If he's this amazing now, who knows where he'll be in say, 10 years time..? Just watching him & hearing every note played to absolute perfection is so chilling. This video just gave me tears of pride & respect for him, & left the hairs on my neck & arms standing on end. His level of talent & composed, natural performance has left me gobsmacked & speechless. Wow! 🫶🏻

That was the piece that exercised my fingers as a child so they never got sore again playing toccatas. I was a little older and tall enough to play the pedals.
