The canal is man made, it was one island originally, then in 3rd century a.d. they dug out the canal so they don't have to row around the island to reach the port. It's great in the summer when sailboats and motor boats try to navigate it, especially if there's a bit of wind and waves.

Cres and Lošinj were one island 1700 years ago, then in 3rd century they dug out the canal so they don't have to row around the island to reach the port.
