Welcome home Wendy & Bob! What an amazing adventure. Thank you so much for sharing your time with us. When seeing such old growth forests and ancient communities like you visited, one wishes the trees could share the stories they saw. It is wonderful the Haida Gwaii is doing all they can to preserve it. My ancestor's on my mothers side were First Nations - from the Tla'amin Band near Powel River and the Homolco Band from Church House. (Your Bob does not look very comfortable being on camera - I can relate.) Looking forward to where you will take us next!

Well, I feel very privileged and humbled to see this special part of the world Wendy thanks to you. I am in awe of the similarities between all First Nations people and the respect they had for the environment. I’m in Australia and it is a very similar story. The New Zealand Māori and Polynesian peoples have very similar carved story trees and poles so I’m guessing there’s a connection way back. Deep dive research with a cup of coffee about to take place!! Thanks again! Cheers ☕️ 😘

Lush, green and mystical are the words that come to mind after watching your video about Haida Gwaii, Wendy. Many years ago my Father showed me a huge tree in virgin forest on Drummond Island, MI. He told me, "Never forget that this tree is alive. It gives us life. Without it, we wouldn't be here." Haida Gwaii is filled with that same awe and respect for a tree's life. Thank you for sharing your amazing journey with all of us. My wish list of places I long to see first-hand has grown by one. Stay well. P.S. It was nice to see Bob's smile peeking thru his camera shyness.

How interesting, Wendy, and yes, the world that these trees and memorials have witnessed. I had a strangely similar experience last week in inland Australia, only it was on the fringe of the desert where two mighty rivers meet. There was a canoe tree like the ones you showed, where a piece of bark was removed by local indigenous people to make a canoe, leaving a scar but allowing the tree to grow undisturbed. I wish I could share a picture.

I'm in awe of these ancient trees and have read many books about them. They communicate with one another through a vast underground fungal (mycelium) network. The mother tree passes her wisdom onto the other trees, plus trees will send out alerts about insects infestations, wildfires, etc. through their vast Wood-Wide Web. The Haida and other First Nation peoples treat the trees with love and respect and only take what they needed for shelter, clothing, baskets, etc. Those memorial poles are still beautiful even as they've weathered and aged, covered in moss. Thanks for sharing! 🌲🌲🦉

I wanted to go to Grey beach plus Rennell Sound but didn't make it. Gravel roads but ok if you go slowly I understand. Our van would have made it ok. Also, take lots of staples in supplies and food. 2 pretty good grocery store . one is Masset and one in what was Queen Charlotte village. Things are pretty basic and haven't changed in many ways over the 35 plus years since I was there last- that is what make the place so amazing. If this channel is still going when you go please let me know how it all went. It is a very special place to me for sure. Hope you liked Bell Coola, I loved it. enjoy
