I guess the trouble with any large project is that the time needed to build it gives the enemy time to respond and plan for it also.

Generals always fight the last war. I'm beginning to think it was the Gov't Leadership; as in the politicians. Perhaps socialism was starting to creep into their ranks. Appeasement is never an option.

@@Itsaboutthewaterlife If the French command was fighting the last war they wouldn't lave abandoned the forts like they did in WW1, Which they only did because the Belgain forts fell so quickly do to fundamental flaws that were only learned about after WW1 ended. It's why the Maginot Line was even built in the first place, They realized the forts at Verdun while flawed still worked very well and their abandonment cost the French much in blood.

Did maurice gamelan think hitler would never know about maginot line when it was openly constructed ?....imagine if it was constructed on german border with hitler destroying 70% of europe and any allies resistance dare to cross the line into germany

Germany did construct their own defence line named Siegfried line
