know whats funny, I was going to suggest you for some video on magnetohydrodynamics.. its a super interesting topic especially in relation to plasma/ electricity too, but maybe a bit too complicated

Homopolar motor, now turn that magnet over to the other pole, the water will go in the opposite direction. You could probably make a setup to take advantage of both pole and gain more thrust double pipe, problem is that one would move water one way and the other would move in the opposite direction, so rotate a shaft.

except i feel that the current simply moves through the water rather than drag the water along with it. the only magnetic interaction is with the ions, not the water itself. could be utterly wrong but the fact its an electrolyte rather than a solid conductor with a rigid structure...

Ok, now how do you get it to perform work? Would you use it in a jet propulsive system, a turbine propulsive system, a sterling propulsive system, some type of thermionics, a nuclear system, a combo of two or more systems? The magnetic fluid has to be contained yet be able to move similar to the sterling, a thermo magnetic heat field like the earth. Yet it must create some type of thrust whether magnetic or something stronger and more efficient than plasma. A magnetic field would have to create some type of push on the rocket and be vectorable while maintaining a protective shield around the rocket. That of course creates a conundrum. Would you need two separate systems, one for propulsion and one for protection? How then would you prevent one from interfering with the other? Could one field reside within another?

do the ions move in opposite directions?
@DotPhysics
@DotPhysics 2 жыл бұрын
The electric plates make the positive and negative charges move in opposite directions perpendicular to the flow of water - but now that their perpendicular motions are opposite, but with opposite charges, the magnetic force pushes them in the same way.

Can you get current out of moving water if you do the same thing? Meaning the water is already moving between the rods+magnet and it has salt in it. Similiar when you spin electric motor abd you get a current.

yes, you can but try to use highly conducting fluids to generate significant current.

@@hansolo9892 so for example river water would'nt work very well it doesn't codnuct that well? I was thinking if flowing rivers could be turn into generators but seems that using propellers and motor is a better more efficient option to get energy out of it.

Adding salt creates a conductive solution, but it also creates a redox situation, and separation of the hydrogen and oxygen happens. You can find many videos on HHO as a fuel option. For this type of propulsion you want to avoid the breakdown of the water into HHO. The higher the current introduced into the solution of salt water the more aggressive the redox reaction becomes. To avoid this problem you'll need to find a way to have a conductive solution, but have a buffering agent that blocks the creation of HHO gas. Otherwise you end up with a system that eats itself, and is pretty much useless as a form of propulsion by itself. It will take a lot of garage bench experimentation to find a highly conductive solution that doesn't act as an electroplating solution, or HHO gas generator. Your looking for a solution that doesn't break down, and has high conductive properties that can deliver more thrust with less current, or voltage. Basically low electrical resistance, and a solution that won't be effected by current, or voltage causing molecules to breakdown into individual atoms at one of the poles. Strong salt water will break down into chlorine gas, and sodium hydroxide solution. Both can be very aggressive towards metals. They use stainless steel electrodes to produce HHO gas.

@@toko7746 Well you aren't wrong dear. See the potential of MHD can be only truly observed in extreme phenomena, that's why it's so popular in Astrophysics for modeling highly complex processes of star formation and solar flares. If you want to see some impact then you can try looking up the Yamato-1 ship built by the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in the early 1990s. They had to use the seawater/ocean water to replicate the salt in the water conductivity that you see here while also considering that they used supercooled helium superconductors aboard to achieve a shy speed of 15 km/h. In that sense building a dynamo to generate energy from a water body would be very inefficient. Interestingly, as I would like to think, maybe their use could be in lighthouses to power it up. (which is in some sense still debatable).

Sad we don't use this tech to help with major water shortages... or water areas that are polluted with toxins... (Blockading the area and channeling the water away from other water sources/areas...) I wonder why we don't use this with sea water and generate enough hydrogen to use as a means to power the locations... (I have very little knowledge in all the fields that would benefit from learning the math and stuff...) With things the way they are currently... and how fast things are transpiring in a negative way... I wonder how much it would be to get the locations necessary to run huge pipes across the land that need the water... I would also wonder, why we don't use compressed air to blast the clouds away, that are bound to create major damage to the many sensitive areas. (Also generated via Hydrogen/electrical power)... I'm trying to figure out what I need to know to understand the mechanics if I want to use: - magnets with electricity; that function as a railgun style propulsion... firing off a platform that is attached with a tether. - The platform is used to house water; (1. it expells the water when it lands in the area of choice; reusable... 2. the tether is a means to connect cables and bury them later... 3. the platform also has mechanical means to dig and cultivate the land... 4. as the different attachments/hubs are connected to the other end of the tether; it can be any kind of machinery/transportation of things/people...) With a high enough pulling/pushing power... after the platforms are connected; it can be used as a railway system with magnetic lift to assist in faster shipping and be of nominal cost... *attaching water turbines within the pipes (in different increments) and having high pressure nozzles to push even faster [as each chamber can withstand strong PSI levels for the next push with the water...] as it accumulates in the chambers at varying speeds for down/busy times...) Since creating magnets in different sizes... it would be interesting how much it would affect people's health if they are around very strong magnetic forces... (But it can be shielded)... lol Cheers!!! Can't wait to see what else I can learn...

But will it eventually scale up to push against air and create thrust, to get off the ground even for only 1 person. And when could that happen? That would be probably be the coolest flying machine ever. Can't crash down if it can defy gravity. Other than a mid air crash and drones already have anti collision software so that shouldn't be a problem

It creates ions in the water which are not neutrally charged. The ions are attracted/repulsed to either side based on their charge which creates the velocity needed for the Lorentz force

This doesn’t make any gravitational force or propulsion.. and that magnet barely does anything.. you’ve just created ionic movement under water … nothing new here .. put your device in a total vacuum chamber and measure the forces.. or in distilled water…
