A role and powerset that coalesces into certain people, to uphold a balance at least some of the entities knows must persist. The Web, for example, and I'd wager the Beholden knows as well.

ohhh this take on Darkness is surprising. and terrifying. god, Manuela. this episode was very well written, I mean, I can actually follow what twisted her mind to this. angry atheist that goes from relying on science to hating it because she's found a more comfortable corner somewhere else. can't say it's not, at least a little bit, relatable. at least the first part. jon sounds sadder and more lonely and detached every episode, which is distressing and heartbreaking to hear. I do not like Elias, and him calling Daisy "bait" is disgusting. that said, it's interesting that he knows that it was his powers that got him out of there, when not even Martin and Jon knew for sure. and... he does know a lot more than Jon does, and he doesn't seem to want the Extinction or the Darkness to take over so... I see why Basira is going along with him

Okay, so. I wasn't the only one wondering about that Jan Kilbride remark, right? They probably said it outright in the earlier episodes, but I've long since forgotten all of these names, so if you're like me - here's a quick explanation: Jan Kilbride was the dude who was Fairchild's "protégé" on Daedalus. Cue MAG099 (which was before MAG106 containing Kilbride's full story). It's a statement regarding the Buried, at the end of which Gertrude mentions Jan, her "suspicions" about him and almost feeling bad about something. So. Remember how she disrupted the Buried's ritual by literally yeeting a Void-touched corpse into their Sacred Pit? Yeah, well, we know who that corpse was now. Hurray. I'm sure this was the only thing we all needed in life.

In the episode with The Pit in the middle of the road in that US town, just before the Pit was destroyed the statement giver recalls travelling past an old woman standing next to it, gazing down into it, with a younger, weeping man sitting in her parked vehicle nearby... :( So I guess Jan was there to willingly die and be thrown into it, that's sick. OHHH So the Lukases and Simon Fairchild helped out the Dark because they could also use the Daedelus for their own purposes. Because while Manuela was furthering potential dark rituals, the Lukases conducted their own experiment on the person who was in the isolation study (forgot their name) for The Lonely and Mr. Fairchild was feeding The Vast w/Jan It makes a lot of sense that these are the three powers that would be ones present in space, and, idk I just found it really satisfying for it to kinda click together in my head. Let’s all think back to when we were listening to the first episodes, to season 1. We were just listening to a collection of weird encounters and ghost stories, we knew there was something fishy about the Institute but that was all. Jon was doing the skepticism act and it all felt like they were just doing their jobs, nothing more. While we were listening to that, there were several crazy avatars of the Powers running around setting up rituals to bring the world closer to their eldritch gods and bring about the end of life as we know it. And we had. NO. IDEA. Isn’t that fucking insane to think about?

I haven’t talked about the other rituals and fear much but this one I feel on a personal level, not because I fear it, but everything he’s talking about is something I’ve thought. Dark is peace, rest, natural, but ultimately cold and lonely. Light is warmth, creation, change, but also chaos and sadness. Ultimately we should fear neither. We should not worship the light, as it brings up pain, but we should not retreat to the dark, for it is cold and uncaring. Live life fully, but let yourself rest when needed. We live because of the light, but we cannot live without the dark. Let everything be.

I hate the Dark! It's logically contradictory. Religion is inherantly about enlightenment. To form a church centered around the absence of knowledge, you need to spread knowledge. This statement giver found out about it through science which is about discovery! And as I write this, I half wonder if that's the point? That this is the only entity we can't understand? Also the Dark is literally the opposite of the Eye, so I feel like Basira should understand Elias's stake in stopping their ritual.

In actuality there exist no complete opposite of any two powers all could benefit and clash against each other. Eye is about somebody is watching. Foresaken/ lonely is about nobody watching. Eye is about knowing stuff. Stranger and the spiral is a sore thumb to that by playing at memory and identity. Hunt and slaughter sounds similar but at a deeper level they are different. One wants to keep finding, while the other is just mindless damage for the love of cruelty.

i’ve never seen anyone commenting on this, but as a norwegian who has been to Svalbard with a sister who has stayed in Ny-Ålesund, it is SOOOO funny the way they talk about it. like first off, yeah perfect for the dark, there’s basically no sun during winter, and Ny-Ålesund is basically just a small scientific research community. second off, Svalbard is an island group (which also means it is ON Svalbard not in, Elias should KNOW that), north off the coast of mainland Norway, and also more complicated than being entirely part of Norway, we share some parts with Russia f.ex. and it is a demilitarized zone (amongst more). lastly, the way they pronounce Ny-Ålesund is hilarious (for obvious reasons). fun fact there is also a university a bit further south of Ny-Ålesund on the same island (Spitsbergen) in Longyearbyen, you could do an exchange year/semester there!

This just occurred to me; maybe it’s my ADHD and OCD but… if I wanted to contain the avatar of The Eye, i would first make sure that the cell he was welded into (not locked) had many many cameras pointed at him which were out of focus. They would record onto magnetic tape which would spin around in a box with no light, passing around a permanent magnet to scramble them before being recorded over. Every hour, a blind record keeper would measure him in every conceivable way, writing down his height, weight, activities, fingernail length, etc etc etc and put the resulting papers into a special chute to a constantly running burner, and the ashes buried every midnight at the new moon by someone wearing a blindfold. Every window and opening would be covered in glass, but the kind that distorts light to provide privacy. Finally, he would also have a metal blindfold welded around his face. I think that would do it.

I have JUST realised something. It’s mostly irrelevant, I’m just leaving it here to have it written and don’t expect anyone to care, but it’s an interesting coincidence imo. I have an OC (loosely based on/technically a Discworld OC, if anyone was wondering) who works with a group of interdimensional Librarians defending their worlds from eldritch beings trying to invade them. Everyone part of that group can be referred to as a Librarian, and this includes my OC. Here comes the coincidence: that OC is called Elias 💀 I thought it all had so much resemblance to TMA, I just had to talk about it… (btw the reason he’s called Elias is because my high school’s librarian is called Elia.)

I would like to point out to this astro physicist that DARK MATTER is not actually darkness or darkness embodied. Though his brain might explode if I told him that dark matter is only called so because right now, we can't observe what lies inbetween the spaces that hold astral bodies apart. In essence, it's a placeholder name for a theory (which even then, is yet another placeholder for something we can't confirm). It's not dark, it might even be emitting a kind of light we can't observe for all we know. ...maybe a Logic Bomb will just end these cultists.
