Marc Ford!! That guy has got "IT". He was always my favorite crowes guitarist. Rich is the riff master but with Ford its something special.

Peter Roberts Same here, when Ford was kicked out, he took the magic with him...just listen to the records; the best ones were those with Marc on guitar. Anyway, great to see them play together again! Rich Robinson visited some Marc Ford shows a couple of years ago, and even that was great, to see them smiling, hugging, and playing together...but who would have thought, that they will actually put a new band together?! Rich had his solo career going on, I think his last two records were great, but this is something else! Hope they will stay together! The funny thing is, that I don't even miss Chris, he can stay on his cloud with his wannabe Dead band....

I'll agree that Mark was the best guitarist and my own personal favorite, but he was kicked out to save his life and couldn't perform well live at the time due to drugs. Sad day. I saw them at their best and worst. Southern Harmony will always be a classic album for me. One of the best Rock n Roll albums ever. However, I think the Crowes really were in their prime on Cabin Fever....they were really refined like a great wine. Not better, not worse..just different. And I enjoyed Luther's guitar. At least they went out on a high note. I love how every album was a different flavor. Lions was my least favorite, but it's still very good...and that just proves how special the Crowes were...even at their worst they were great...and better than most other bands. You're missing out if you are dismissing CRB and NEM. Chris is a fantastic songwriter. A generational talent. That he can keep making good songs is remarkable. I just saw two CRB shows this weekend and loving the new album. The first two were excellent as well. I was sad and pessimistic when the Crowes split each time and Chris went solo (I expected not to like his music), but I was then blown away how good NEM's first album was. Paul Stacy was yet another great guitarist and they were good live. I had no idea Chris even played guitar at the time. I don't compare the new stuff to the Crowes. It's just different...to quote Pearl Jam.."it's evolution baby". Then CRB just went to another feel altogether and blends other ingredients into a cosmic brew. You really should try it. It can take multiple listenings due to the complexity and subtleties for it to really sink in. It doesn't have to be one or the other. I'm very happy to see Marc Ford's cleaned up and still has the chops to shred those bluesy solos and I just noticed they are coming to my city next month, so I might have to go just to see him. Face it, without Chris there would be no Crowes we love dearly. While Rich deserves 50% credit, along with Steve Gorman, it was something that needed all the ingredients. Kinda like no Jimmy Page or no Robert Plant, we have no Zeppelin. I wish nothing but the best for all the former Crowes....but I don't hold out any hope they will reunite. I cherished them when they were together and went to many shows knowing it wouldn't last forever. It was a great run. Only a handful of other bands can compare. Chris might be an A-hole, but he'd be the first to tell you so too. Most people we idolize can be A-holes, just like you and me. What goes on between brothers is their business, not ours. I just enjoy the music. I don't care about the politics and personal life choices. "The Song" continues.....Peace. **I really liked Trigger Hippy too. Disappointed Jackie left. However Jackie Green was a poor fit for the Crowes.

I'm a 46yr old timer and I reckon this was the best gig I have been too in a very long time. I am a massive fan of Ford and Robinson. The Crowes were never the same after Ford left and to see Ford and Robinson play together again, with so much enjoyment was a pleasure... and we got to sing happy birthday to Marc, albeit out of tune and out off time, but with a lot of heart

Marc Ford is a treasure. He makes Rich a better player. I wouldn't put him in the same echelon as guitarists like Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Vaughn, etc., but I do think if he had been playing in the 70s that his prowess would be more widely recognized. As far as guitarists from his own era, there are very few who give me goosebumps the way Marc's playing does. John Frusciante and a few others.

No doubt. They need to start to mix in some jamming at some point. May take a little while, but I hope they can work some stuff in. I don't see why not. Sven knows what to do and Magistro is making it look effortless back there.

JJ You're welcome and thanks for the message which I appreciate. I loved hearing these songs again and they felt fresh having Rich and Marc playing together again... and also with John Hogg getting better night after night. Would've been great to have big Steve back but Joe did an admirable job. I genuinely didn't miss Chris that much during the 4 nights.

AWESOME; I just saw them August 8th in the US and they were great, Just great rock and roll! I hate how there are so many that refer to them as a cover band; there are 3 original member of the Crowes and it was 4 until Ed Harcsh passed away; yes they cover classic songs just like the Crowes did but they have an album out and if one of the writer and creator of songs from a band plays them how can you cover your own song? When Page and Plant played together bag in the 90's they weren't a Led Zeppelin cover band, they were Page and Plant playing their music.

Why is Gorman not in this band? This guy is good but Gorman was a beast. Hugely underrated drummer and a big part of the Crowes sound. That's what I felt was missing a little bit when I saw Magpie live, even more so than Chris' vocals. I think I would rather see these guys do their new stuff. Both of the new songs I've heard so far are great.

NO offense, but when Marc left the band again in August of 2006, they never recovered from a live standpoint. I mean, Luther is good, so is Jackie Green and their 2 set shows in 2010 were nice, but you can't replace chemistry. No better guitar duo from the 1990s than Rich and Marc. Just doesn't really exist. Chris checked out years ago and it showed uo with the lyrics and songwriting in general. His CRB material is way too out there and hard to get into, IMO, not to mention, deep down I think he knows he can't sing the Crowes songs or some covers in the upper registers anymore, while this guy clearly can. They haven't sounded this good in a long time, Chris or no Chris. Chris made his choice and let him keep writing 10 minute meandering songs, that go absolutely nowhere.

That statement is like saying John Fogerty is a CCR tribute band. Rich wrote or co-wrote all of the Crowes songs and Marc Ford made the music come alive. Seeing them back together and killing it does my heart good.
