Hi Dolphine. Watching from the UK. I remember travelling by train overnight from Kisumu to Nairobi way back in 1996. It was a wonderful experience. Its good to see you travelling by train. I think Kenya could make a lot more use of her railways. They are a great asset which I think are undervalued.

A wonderful review. We now know what to expect. I last took a return journey in the Kisumu night train in 1990. At the time there were two classes (and three for Mombasa) and I experienced both. Third class ticket was 45/- and second class 89/- (equivalent to the amount one would pay for the bus - Akamba etc). What is first class was then second class, but had three beds and in some coaches 4; the space seems to have been taken up by the sink and closet. Kudos KR and keep improving. We need the alternative means of travel.

Its OK. Not 5 Star. Just OK. If Kenya Railways wants market share on Travelers to Kisumu they can do a few adjustments on quality. If not travelers who are not accustomed to squatting toilets and restaurants without menus will simply fly to Kisumu to avoid these substandard amenities. Quality is Key Kenya Railways. Let's work on that!!
@rachelandeso51792 жыл бұрын
Considering the cost, this is very good. People who prefer to simply fly, they will still fly even with 5 star amenities added to this train. So this has its target market and we aren't complaining. Its relief for me that I dont have to risk my life the killer road to western

Beautiful clip. One correction, Dolphin. Do not refer to Kibera as the biggest slum in Africa. This is not a compliment. In fact, this description was made by NGOs that solicited money abroad “to help the poor” in the slum. They had to make look like the most miserable in the continent. In fact, it is not bigger than other slums in Nairobi and it cannot compare with the larger slums in other African countries, like some in Cape Town and Johannesburg and in other African countries. It is enough to acknowledge the place as the Kibera slums, but is erroneous to perpetuate the lie that it’s the biggest in Africa

@itgamingke2 жыл бұрын
True the sgr needs to be headed to the west side because it will help decongest the roads with big trucks and matatus transporting both people and goods
@nairobinyeusi58112 жыл бұрын
The Narok route still heads to Kisumu. The only town that will miss the SGR link is Nakuru. Section 2B of the SGR blueprint is Narok-Nyamira-Kisumu. The railways can only be profitable if it taps into the Western circuit through Kisumu. The western region has the biggest population density of travellers in Kenya.
