as an avid chess player, i absolutely love it when hooj uses it to explain his reasoning. it translates perfectly imo.
@ralfduong13256 ай бұрын
I find Woohoojin be a very good coach don’t get me wrong, but the Chess analogy is not at all how it is. If something works in diamond but not in radiant then its like a gambit. Some gambits work on intermediate level and just don’t at high level, but its still a viable way to play in the rating that you are in. You give up something(in val its I guess positioning) and you get something in return and thats an off angle. Like with perfect play you are going to get punished, but you are still playing against humans not bots. My openings in Chess is gambit only but i have found myself rarely in a worse situation because of it. More so that I’m just being dumb lmaooo
@Kawanu6 ай бұрын
@ralfduong1325 I think you're missing the fact that taking risks or gambits isn't bad as long as you understand the risk associated. As you inevitably get better at chess or val, those gambits are going to start costing you more and more though. Or at the very least become something you only do on ecos, bullet games, etc.
@snowpools84986 ай бұрын
@@ralfduong1325 I don't really play chess so I could be wrong, but isn't Woohoojin's entire point that you'll only get punished against better players? It might work against people at your current level and win you games, but if you were trying to win a tournament, it wouldn't be good anymore as better players will know how to punish you for it
@ArkbladeIX6 ай бұрын
@@ralfduong1325your point about gambits not working at a high level and only working at intermediate level is woohoojin's point. If he wants to rank up past diamond, he can't do a gambit that only sometimes works against diamonds
@ralfduong13255 ай бұрын
@@ArkbladeIX He can do that gambit in diamond then right? Which he is then. You just have to know when you are facing up against ascendants (with like tracker or something) then you can switch up your repretiore to a more effective but boring one. Or change it up if you are about to rank up. That is of course if you know what you are playing is a gambit but I don't think the neon in the video thought of the play it as a gambit. Which is where he went wrong I think.

After you get a pick that puts you in a highly advantageous position as long as you're not currently in danger, take 3 seconds to tuck away, pause, read the map, and figure out the best way to secure the round without risking the other team taking value or picks, or even worse, getting a winnable round out of a silly push. TL:DR don't be hasty to rush and close out rounds just because numbers advantage, evaluate game state first.

At like 18:20 he mentions expecting good valorant. As much as that feels justifying to hear, as someone who plays in a lot of formatted matches across a couple fps titles, it really sucks actually qing into ranked with friends because pretty much every game there's at least one to two players who consistently use those cheese spots, odin spam, judge rushes, etc. It isn't necessarily hard to counter, but it is annoying to get called out for NOT expecting that type of play.
@allansherin95656 ай бұрын
depends on your elo, i agree with that one spot since sova could do lineups but he was in site, so theres no point checking it
@gedas70585 ай бұрын
Genuine thought- I don't think he's entirely right in saying "good Valorant". In a perfect world, you'd win all situations, 100% of the time. Since nobody's perfect, we're ideally are trying to get to 100% as close as possible. That means that we're trying to play every situation perfectly. While it's not realistic to expect to win everything, not everything that's "good Valorant" is actually good. I understand and can relate to the numbers theory, that statistically speaking..., but! We're trying to find a way to reduce those statistical anomalies and make sense of as much as we can. This means that sometimes, we might want to clear cheese spots. Or maybe not clear in a full slowmo mode, but in a couple of bigger steps, not every single potential off angle. In any case, woo is a great coach and has so much value to offer, it's great. I just don't think that this saying "good Valorant" will translate well because we don't play stats. We play situations. Just like chess- we don't make a move thinking that statistically speaking, opponent is going to make X move. No. What we try to do is to find a perfect move based on our current knowledge. While good Valorant idea might be an upgrade to so many people, I dont think it's ideal.
@sethchoby9761Ай бұрын
Well yeah it happens in low elo. But I think the point he’s getting at is statistically across time. MOST Valorant players don’t play like that and the ones that do are clustered tightly in iron, bronze, silver, and maybe gold. So if you play a hundred rounds, maybe 10 of them have cheese players. The thing about cheese players is they’re usually one and done. And the second they get countered they stop doing it. So even in silver it will stop happening after they get dunked on in a round. So woohoojin is saying you have a choice to make, get better at the game, and make the statistically more successful choice even if it means you get knifed a handful of times, or you can feel the satisfaction of beating a cheese player a couple of times at the cost of losing more rounds
