The prepositurale church of San Michele arcangelo in Busto Arsizio (Varese, Italy) possesses a majestic concert of 12 bells, all cast by Fratelli Barigozzi of Milan in 1889. The bells are all original, being of excellent quality; the concert is perfectly tuned and is considered by leading experts to be one of the best concerts in northern Italy. The bells are tuned in the diatonic scale of B flat major. In this video, the bells are ringing on a festive day.
The Church of St Michael Archangel stands on an ancient Lombard fortification, destroyed at the end of the 13th century. The church tower was originally used as a lookout tower for the castle and is the only part of the Longobard fortification still intact. The church was completely rebuilt between 1653 and 1679, designed by Francesco Richini, the most famous Baroque artist in the area. The church was elevated to provostry dignity in 1924 and officially completed with the construction of the transepts and the enlargement of the apse, enriched in 1945 with a pipe organ by Mascioni. The church houses the whole body of a Roman martyr, donated by Pope Innocent X on 5 April 1650.
