I love how you show stretching your hand and fingers. It's such an important part to the process that people don't think about

I’ve learned some of the basics for making chain mail jewelry but I’m ready to something like this… Why? One word- Grogu!! I’d like to make armor for our Grogu toy from The Mandalorian 😆 thanks for posting this video!! It’s very helpful 👍

Three and a half years later I have some notes! 1. Please see @roamingcelt 's comment below. I was making this up as I went and any bit of extra info can be very helpful for making your own chainmail shirt. Please experiment with directional hang of your mail. 2. I used "1 Pound Bright Aluminum Chainmail Jump Rings 14G 1/2" ID (1150+ Rings)" from Amazon. If you can't find them, I can't help you further. 3. I wore my shirt to 2024's Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire over a linen gown and under a leather bodice and did not experience any overheating or fatigue. YMMV but I find chainmail a perfectly acceptable summer Faire outfit. 4. Have fun! :)

What kind of rings are those? Sorry i don't recognize the size from the package
@coopercummings8370 Жыл бұрын
they are polished aluminum, 12 AWG/14 SWG and 7/16 inch inside diameter. In metric that amounts to a hair over 2mm wire diameter and a little over 11.1mm inside diameter

i cant find Jump rings in that size anywhere! have tried doing it to smaller scale but stuff just combines and tangles
@TheChaosOfNothing8 ай бұрын
You can definitely go smaller if you want it's not much different and doesn't really tangle

Where did you get the rest of the fit? Pants/shirt/shawl/leather that is
@MKWissler2 жыл бұрын
Hi Aidan--the pants are some modern linen pants, the shirt is hand sewn based on the classic T tunic, fabric belt was woven by me, the shawl was bought at a market in Morocco, the leather belt is Armstreet, and the sword frog is from RagnaroksEnd on Etsy.

Hate to tell you this, but your chain is in the wrong direction. Build yourself a 20x20. Hang it in 90deg from your pattern. It's more flexible and doesn't hang fully open.
@MKWissler4 ай бұрын
Hi, sorry, what do you mean by "build yourself a 20x20"?
@roamingcelt4 ай бұрын
@MKWissler 20 rings by 20 rings. Same 4in1. If you run horizontal, it breaths. Run it vertical and it opens up. It becomes stiffer.

Running horizontally also makes it easier to add length without making staps. Make a starter strap. Pick a side and add a row. Instead of fighting 4 rings; you're only grabbing 2 for each ring added.
