He seems like a nice kid. Wish him all the best but he should not get too invested in modelling as a career because it's a fleeting career. One moment, you have the look they want and the next season, they don't have any use for your look. I think modelling is easier for women then men.

+Mystirious Nefartiti It's funny; a lot of people who aren't in the modelling industry don't know how hard it is and only see the big positives of supermodels. They are ignorant about the millions who try extremely hard and only get little pay.

+jigglymabob yes. you are right. for every guy that you see in that Calvin Klein ad or billboard, there are probably 20 more who are barely scraping by. I think people should also check out the series of videos called Unglamorous: the truth about male models. It was definitely an eye opener for me. Only a select few get to supermodel status, and they are the ones who get all the big jobs; those ad campaigns- that's where the money is. I think this guy has a cool look and can get to a level where he can make some real money, but it may take some time. I wish him luck. He seems really nice

This is so true. I had a friend who did Fashion Shows for Dior Furs. Someone took him to New York to make a film with a girl. While they were seeking funding they got my friend and the girl into all the right parties, etc. They never got the money for the film, but my friend was picked up one of the top agencies (I can't remember which now). He got top jobs though he didn't have work papers. The agency told him to just say they were being put through. Finally he was up for a major car commercial (which would have meant great residuals), but the car company wouldn't touch him without seeing a work permit. My friend had to return to France for theater contract. When he went back to New York 6 months later (looking exactly the same) no one was interested in him. Not because he had left the agency before; the moment had just past.

Actually, modelling is easier for men, especially commercial branded modelling like catalogues and ads. They can do it well into their 50s still. The problem is the pay is WAY lower than with women and reliability. The older you are, the better the modelling gigs you get as a male. My friend was scouted and started doing stuff for Scotch & Soda, Urban Outfitters and ads for a glasses brand. They were all paid in full but he is also in his late 20s and is not being put pressure on because models careers will depend where they fit. These young boys are just being exploited for the editorial and runaway look. This is a look thats trending and does not last. If you have a more timeless and usual appearance, then your modelling career is completely different and are sent to completely different types of castings. That is the reality and it sucks that they take advantage of youngsters who still have no idea about life and consequences. It is very easy to fall into this trap, especially as a male.

Male models are paid less money than female ones. Even in female modeling, if you are no Naomi Campbell or Karlie Kloss, sometimes you don't get paid at all. The only way to 'enjoy' modeling is to really earn that 'super' status and money would come as easy as we think in modeling. One tip for models especially female: LEARN HOW TO WALK! Naomi, Gisele, and Karlie, they capitalized so much on their signature walk when they were just starting. And it's not as easy as it seems.

There are many kinds of models. You can make a great living just being a low tier model. In LA, there is a class of models called 'fit models' and they book at 500 dollars an hour. They don't have to be beautiful. They are simply human mannequins for designers. And they are trained to give feedback on fit and feel of clothes. Fit models are in constant demand. And they are never really seen. I've known fit models that make more money than the designers. It's not all couture runway.

Guys don't forget to count Yasmeen Ghauri when talk about super models and their natural walk talent. She herself is a complete institution and upcoming models should learn from her walk. Although her walk is quite difficult to copy and learn. Many models failed to do so.. but still new comers should keep that as a benchmark or a source of inspiration.. hope there s some iconic signature in male models too...

Many people try to imitate models to get into the industry but I guarantee two major factors are your confidence, And your personality... To still be human & not just another imitation. I'd also say the most important is your determination, Ability to get turned down left & right until you succeed.
