My father and I built one of these in the early 80s. I remember seeing the ad in Popular Science. We had a lot of fun building and sailing it. Heck, I can recall driving screws with a Yankee (won't do that again). Those were some very happy days.

I am just a little more than impressed. The boat is beautiful, And the style is what I would have liked myself. Now you guys should do the Texas 200. I have always towed a small unsinkable dingy even when still in site of shore. It will always make all aboard feel a lot safer. And one day may even save your butt when you least expect something to go wrong. SAFTEY FIRST ALWAYS.

I bought the plans for one of these but before I got started I lucked into a Com-Pac 16 I sailed it for several years just like I got it ( BAD ) shape then I took it completely apart and totally gutted it to the hull built a whole new inside that suited me better than the original put it all back together with new caulk paint inside and rivets . Used gorilla grip bed liner on the deck (much better than regular nonskid ) a sand color and a forest green on the hull , yep she's pretty , even the power boaters say so lol . Those boats are so classic , beautiful lines great job she looks awesome . You guys did a great job . Did you add ballast Like 3/8" steel dagger board ? Now I have a Westsail 32 I need to get built . I found the hull and deck sitting in a field , never been anything done to it like new I have since bought almost everything to build it New Beta 38hp motor I went with all SS deck hardware and SS portholes . I need sails and the plywood for the cabinet work inside . You have a beautiful boat I love it .

Nice California kids ! … Thanks for sharing boys ! Then again a wheel on this type and size of boat is totally useless … the more so that you loose the feel of the boat and that rapid change of direction is not so fast in close maneuvers situations such as in marinas. I think this is the old-school Schooner Sailing vessels that I wishes to try it at the integrated synthetic composites but I may try it to work with pre-coated epoxy plywood and I think were I could make it the longlasting materials if I made pre-coated epoxy whilst the hull exterior I plated with Fiber Glass and then the newest synthetic fabric named Diolen Composites with epoxy resins rather than the Polymer Resins. only the thing that I may figure out were the design templates but my configurations were cleared to bypass the templates and to proceed the work with my exact geometrical analysis under the terms of exact concave perceptions (Thus it added on greater ballasting bouyancies and the reinforced seaworthy stiffness of the entire vessels whilst effective keeling is my another technical challenges) if the keeling is not obtained here, I may use the daggerboards or swivel boards

Nice job and great achievement ! … I'm surprised at the wheel ! Don't you think it's a bit overdone for such a small boat ?… Just asking. Congrats again.
@santierindel31593 жыл бұрын
Dear Vincent, the idea of the wheel comes form the relatively small cockpit due to the space taken by the cabin. The designer opted for the wheel as there is not a lot of space for the tiller movement. some people that did build this boat did install a tiller and that also works well. But nothing wrong with the wheel.

@OFKVT3 жыл бұрын
I was just looking on the Stevenson Projects website and the super skipjack (basically a weekender that is three feet shorter with no cabin) was estimated to cost about $1000. So the weekender could probably be built for a little more than that. On a boat with this construction and this small a few extra feet isn't going to add a lot in terms of cost.
@akkiller84543 жыл бұрын
@@OFKVT IV done some calculations lately and added up all the cost with the hardware lumber and cordage and it looks like its gonna be around 3 k to build it anf that was 5 months ago I did that and the price of lumber just heeps riseing so much its prob closer to 5

Hey I have this same boat, already built and im wanting to strip it down to bare wood and refinish it. I noticed while I was eyeing the boat it had some water rot in sections of the rub rail. I see how it is screwed together, but im wondering how you get the outside piece of wood too bend enough to fit the curvature of the hull? Thanks hope to hear back!
@avilondonwynne71617 жыл бұрын
If you watch at 2:46 you can see the rub rail took a lot of people time and force. We started by painting a strip of glue on the hull where it would be attached. Then slowly screwing in the rub rail bit by bit. Once one part was attached we moved on to the next part slowly bending the rub rail as we went. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Cristi Vlacicu hard to say, much more than expected so around $3000 -$4000 including the trailer and rigging and everything, but possibly with better planning you could do it for less maybe around $2500.

It's still more worth having a newbuild for $3-4000 as opposed to a $2000 unmantained, full of mold, unused in years floating bucket...
