I love this movie... ever since seeing it on TV in NYC when I was growing up. The title theme is truly beautiful and the "mother coming to the rescue" / "man should leave nature alone" themes are timeless!

Despite scrapping a couple planned sequences which would've been hard to do SFX-wise, it's a great film for its time. And I'll add that scrapping the planned scene where little Gorgo kills a circus elephant was for the best. It would've undermined audience sympathy for the little monster's plight by showing him savagely killing an elephant as described in the script.

"GORGO"; one of my first words. I grew up with this movie. I love it. I know it can be silly, but it holds so much nostalgia for me. Is it me, or does it seem funny that the narrator said "trashed" at 2:23? It just seems out of place for a sophisticated narrator.

People call the American cut really bad. I don't agree with that. Yes, it changes the perspective of the film but I was terrified by the American version and thought Burr's narration made it especially melancholy and sad. After seeing both (I have both DVDs), I appreciate the original more for historical/cultural reasons related to WW2 but still think the American version is a solid re-cut (needed to make it more sell-able to 1950's America) and doesn't completely rob the plot of the original.

snakes3425: You forgot to list Cosmic Monsters as a British "giant bug" film. There were at least two more "giant spider" films, Earth Versus The Spider, and I forget the name of the other There was also The Giant Gila Monster, but I'm not surprised that it wasn't listed, as it was something of a stinker

A crossover movie, Godzilla vs. Gorgo much like Godzilla fought King Kong in "King Kong vs. Godzilla" (1962) and later this year "Godzilla vs. Kong".

If I recall both The Beast & The Behemoth, They were brought to life by Stop Motion Animation. Gorgo “Both the infant & the Adult” were originally going to Stop Motion Animated Creatures, But they had to be Big rubber suites like from Godzilla. 9:00 Hey, That looks like some kind of Duckbilled Dinosaur. Thanks to all for the comments. Godzilla in 3D officially coming. Where is the new Gamera? Then a remake of Gorgo. And then finally all 3 of them in a movie aka Destroy All Monsters. And enough of the put downs. There's room for all 3! Remember: the apples and oranges rule. More monsters the better!

I love GORGO as much as the next guy (Seriously, it's one of the best giant monster films ever made outside of Japan), but to try to claim that Gorgo is more "believable" than Godzilla, is preposterous.

With all due respect. The original Godzilla (Gojira) was a terrifying movie that is an absolute classic. I like Gorgo too but I won't let myself be blinded that it is, in almost all ways, a direct derivative of Godzilla (monster and plot..minus baby). This "making of" doesn't even hint at Godzilla except vague references to "run of the mill" monster movies. Ah, that guy should watch it. Gorgo is cool but no way is it "superior" to Gojira". No way can that be said - objectively anyway.

She ALSO survived being shot at by some army dude with his lousy little .38 Webley, during the bridge attack sequence! Hell, if Godzilla could live through everything the Japanese threw at him, why NOT Mama Gorgo!
@TransatlanticFoe8412 жыл бұрын
You gotta love how incredibly ironic your argument is. There is nothing "campy" about the original 1954 GODZILLA. I suggest you watch it. Godzilla had 26 sequels that spanned over a 50 year time period. Gorgo had...none. Godzilla's character evolved over time, and he had his share of "campy" entries, but this is the problem. Godzilla's naysayers generalize the character, and claim that ALL of his films are campy, when that couldn't be any further from the truth.
@febbster7 жыл бұрын
Gorgo was indestructible , it was the ONLY giant monster they couldn't kill. Great storyline, more believable than Godzilla . Sorry, didn't need to make 26 watered down ridiculous sequels. Yes there is only one Gorgo and I love it.

l liked "Gorgo". However, this "Making of Gorgo" conspicuously leaves out even ONE mention of the obvious predecessor to this film...(ahem, Godzilla). Why is that? Were they angry with their Japanese partners for the deal that fell through? The two movies are so close..I mean, same size, coming ashore and destroying famous landmarks, rubber suit, invincible vs. military might, event "Go" starting the names of each monster. Yes, Beast From 20k Fathoms predated both but come on now.
@rexon315 жыл бұрын
J.P. Giuliotti yeah but godzilla wasn’t meant to be a copy of the beast of 2000 cause the original japanese movie is vastly different to the american cut that tried to catalysed on that movie
@HieMan-g1n27 күн бұрын
The author of the script was Tom Weaver who doesn't care for Japanese monster movies except maybe the original Godzilla. If he had to choose he'd pick inferior Wetern movie over a better Japanese one.
