I think Jeanine Tesori is one of the great musical theatre composers of the past 30 years. "Caroline or Change" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie " are two masterpieces of the American musical theatre. Unfortunately I don't think opera is the best use of her talents. I wish modern operas, especially those produced by the Met, better understood the medium. This type of intimate subject matter works best on a small theatrical stage not the massive Metropolitan Opera.
