Metro 2033 pre-alpha dates back to 2004, back then you didn't really have a choice but to make your own engine, or pay insane royalties to use someone else's.

Wow, very disappointed you guys for all of a sudden, two weeks before release, deciding to pull it off steam. I was planning on buying it on release if not pre-ordering a bit before. Now, however, it will be (at least) a year before I purchase it - if I purchase it at all after this fiasco. I read the book series and loved the first two games, and so it is unfortunate that myself and many others will likely not be purchasing it this time around unless it magically appears back up on steam before or at release. P.S. Thanks for the ~five seconds you gave steam users to preorder before you pulled the game. No Steam, no purchase.

I am kind of miffed that this game isn't on steam anymore, not because of all this crap about anti-consumer practices, i just want this game to do well, its obvious that a lot of passion and thought has gone into this game, and i think it deserves to do well considering all the hard work that this team has put in. On another note I think there is some justification into making it an epic exclusive, because honestly a 30% cut is pretty absurd and competition is good in a market, it motivates companies to actually give a damn about consumers, or at least pretend like they do, and on a side note, i think the decision to make it $50 is a consumer friendly gesture. I'm NOT saying that making it an epic exclusive is necessarily a good decision, i'm just saying there's a different perspective to be seen, and to not judge a game purely on where it's being sold, and if nothing else, to not hate on a developer that just wants to create an amazing gaming experience, because of the actions taken out of their control. I think i kind of have to say this, but these words are coming from one of the eight people who preordered this game on steam before the 'EXODUS' of deep silver from the steam market.

Now The Witcher (series) and CD Projekt Red are very respected and loved in the gaming community so they can get away with quite a bit. They also made tons of money with their last release.
