Fascinating. I knew "Scarborough Fair" was a traditional song, but I didn't know about its older roots. I always thought the song was just about a couple who couldn't be together because of circumstances in our world (societal issues, maybe their parents didn't approve, etc.), but knowing the song is about a human/fairy couple gives it a whole new meaning. In that context, it IS edgy, and melancholy, and maybe even a bit dark, too.
