One of my favorite moments is 16:16 when the documentary crew asks why George is filming a scene for Episode 3, even though they're currently filming Episode 2. With enough context and guess-work, I think the scene they were filming was Obi-Wan giving baby Luke to his Aunt and Uncle. I could be wrong - but In my head it makes perfect sense. Just goes to show George did in fact have a laid out story already, something the Sequel Films failed at spectacularly lol

Funnily enough I was thinking this too! From memory Obi-Wan was hooded in that scene, which makes sense because his hair would end up being short in ROTS. Really smart of George to know that hair would be an issue
@chronica64572 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. If I recall correctly, that's the only Tattooine scene in Ep3, so I guess he figured it was best to get it done with now so they don't have to bring the entire crew into the desert again just for one scene later on, it also means they might not even have to get Owen's actor for the Ep3 shootings

This part really got me as well! I was looking for this comment and I'm so happy it was near the top 😁 Knowing know that Ewan McGregor was about 3 years younger at the very end of ROTS just gets me. As someone who watched the entire Lucas era of Star Wars films recently, I really fail to understand the hate the prequels got. They are not as good as the original, but in my opinion they are still good films, and fantastic Star Wars films at that. They seem dated now, but at the time I am sure they were visually stunning. The acting can be a little janky at times, but it doesn't work to distract you from the film. Maybe the storyline doesn't have as much 'flow' as the original, but then again I feel like working backwards in any film series will suffer from this issue of continuity, since you are restricted into a forced outcome. Honestly, I feel like the hate they got was completely unjustifiable, completely exaggerated and suffered from serious bandwagonism where people pile on the hate on a film that maybe did underperform, solely because it was hyped up to be an inevitable disappointment. The story is engaging, the visuals and camera work are very good, especially considering they were pioneering and experimental at the time and they all have a unmistakable 'Star Wars' feel to them. Go into it blind, like I did, with literally zero expectations, and you will see they are very engaging, enjoyable and classic films. Lucas, and all involved in the prequels, is owed a massive apology.

Interesting tidbit in this documentary at ~@16:15 So they’re obviously shooting Ep. 2 Attack of the Clones but here Hayden & George were talking about Ep. 3 Revenge of the Sith Quick tangent: The Owen homestead is in the same spot it’s just been rebuilt it’s stated here. Anyway So Lucas having good prescience along with his insane imagination told Hayden they were doing a shot right then for Ep. 3 Revenge of the Sith That’s pretty crazy If you followed Lucas’ Star Wars development & writing trajectory you learn that he had a lot of it in his head but the scripts & stuff were done individually because things developed & changed along the way. So it’s likely that during the Clones shoot here, the Sith story let alone script wasn’t even committed to paper yet. I’m not positive about that thought. So I guess it was the Sand People episode which is a salient moment. Still it’s pretty crazy to have the foresight & have a story of this scope in your mind you’re able to shoot it a couple years beforehand. We always get reminded how much of a madman George Lucas is.

The glee and happiness with which George describes being able to create more and more of the environments and things digitally really shows how ignorant and misguided he was with relying so much on pushing technology and digital sets. You lose so much of the magic, and the tangible feeling of this being a real world. He talks about shooting on real locations and sets like it's torture. It amazes me. These prequel films have such a cold, sterile feeling to them. So much is lost due to the digital overload he stuffed the film with. I love George Lucas, and what he's done. But he was so misguided with this, and I can't for the life of me understand his mindset here. And don't get me wrong, there is a ton of really amazing stuff in the prequels, I mean seriously great stuff. I just wish there wasn't so much digital overload. I wish there was more real sets, more on location shooting. Use the digital stuff where you have to, not just because you can.

The prequels by George Lucas was what got me interested in Star Wars. I was so intrigued and blown away by the visionary ideas, the planets, the aliens, the flying vehicles, the droids, the architecture. A captivating work of art. I loved all the actors. The Star Wars by disney were really awful. They were not visionary at all. Everything about Disney's Star Wars was downgraded from the stunning worlds Lucas created.

In a few years, the common theme will be, "the sequels weren't as bad as everyone said". I guarantee it. Youngsters who grew up on the sequels, will feel just as you do about the prequels. They'll talk about how great the sequels were, and how those fogies who grew up on the prequels couldn't appreciate the sequels. How they only loved the prequels due to childhood nostalgia for them. It's like poetry, it rhymes. Until they finally stop making these movies. Neither prequels, nor sequels were needed, and neither come close to the original trilogy. I love the OT for the same reason you love the prequels - it's just that the prequels, and especially this one, are awful. Stilted dialogue, senseless storylines, excessive use of CGI, ridiculous characters and scenes. Cliched lines. The actors aren't bad, but they seem bad, they seem wooden, because the words they're saying are not believable. But people will defend the sequels. When they came out, the prequels were suddenly great again.
@jimreily75383 ай бұрын
@ultrabrian8151 For me, there are just two sequels: The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi I have not and never will see another Star Wars movie. The Disney Star Wars is trash. The prequels were slapped together, excessive, and frankly, bad. Both are bad, sequels and prequels. Just because the sequels are bad, doesn't make the prequels automatically good. That's senseless. They're both bad, and mostly bad.

Man, all those haters that focus on Jar Jar Binks and Anakin's hate for sand, they just don't see how amazing the world building is. I mean it spawned comics and videogames, it's just awesome the world George created with the prequels, even if you don't like them too much you have to admit it's world is beautiful. Fans are ridiculous and seeing them freaking out at Disney SW is satisfying: they smeared this movie and this trilogy for many years when it's nowhere near as bad as they said and they were easily baited by Episode VII (which is terrible). Also this movie contains many warnings about the current day situation with the post-truth and the fake news era.

It is good. The only scene that was bad (which was a very important one) was the lightsaber fight. Ok yeah we got to see Yoda for two seconds but all this buildup and he really doesn't do much. He lost to Dooku. Never get the image of Anakin just standing there like a dumbass when fighting Dooku, that scene had so much potential.

@@BlueisNotaWarmColour I think they exaggerated a lot of it though. They also exaggerated how much cg was being used in Matrix trilogy and Lord of the Rings as well. When it comes to Cinema, and how movies are made, how they look, and the technical side that goes into, the Prequels were just as influential as the originals. Especially the technology with CGI and green screens creating characters and sets, and creating a whole atmosphere from digital effects. The prequels were groundbreaking in that aspect. Unfortunately its been so over done, abused, and depended on. Due to budgets and deadlines and many other things, CGI is usually half ass nowadays and its refreshing to see practical effects and real performance
@MimMdance2 жыл бұрын
I will be completely honest. It may not be THE best Star Wars film of them all, but everytime I watch it I get a nice, warm feeling about it. It's hard to explain and what I said can lead to easy jokes haha, but I guess what I mean is that it is a rather enjoyable and light hearted and enjoyable Star Wars story. We see the Republic in times of peace (mostly) we see Anakin and Padme happy, visiting beautiful scenarios, before everything goes downhill in ROTS, and even though their chemistry as a couple and their dialogues aren't that strong in this film, it is all enhanced by the story about these characters itself, and by the heavenly soundtrack Across the Stars. Something about their romance is just heartwarming in this film and is made even more poignant when it is contrasted to these characters' tragic outcome later on. The film also has some quite unique and enjoyable scenes in the franchise. Even with its flaws I consider Attack of the Clones an enjoyable watch and (as a prequels kid) one of my favourites.

Yeah everyone has different taste on how they view a particular movie or trilogy you know like besides Stat Wars or Indiana Jones you have like The Lord of the Rings and Star Trek. Theres always a love hate relationship with these kinds of Trilogies and it hits different for alot of people and usually it can be a cultural impact too. Sure you look back as an adult and your like damn this or that looks put off or a particular dialog seems to clunky or unnecessary or blah blah blah but when your a child it hits on another level that you don't see thing like this you know. I mean I live on nostalgia no doubt about it. I buy literally retro Star Wars Merch all the time if it intrigues me. I was a prequels kid and my uncle got me into star wars when they rolled around since he went thru the OG when he as well was a kid and now my 10 year old daughter loves the sequels even though I have a different taste but you know if they like it let them love it even if you have a different opinion but I see this a generational thing kids watch the OG then have kids there kids see the prequels there parents may love it or hate it but the kids love it then those prequel kids grow up and have kids and there kids see the sequels again parents have different opinions but there kids loves it so yeah again love hate relationship kids loves it, adults dislikes it. At least to some not all. Star Wars is a kids movie you can tell by the pattern I've somewhat made. Don't like it don't watch it. Its not that hard but I encourage you to watch it with your kids regardless of your disire.

WAIT.... Did George just pronounce "Hoth" as Hoath?! WTF.
@RepublicOfUs4 жыл бұрын
George was never huge on consistent pronunciation; if I recall correctly, he thought of it as a "regional dialect" kinda deal, where not everyone is going to say everything the same way, especially on a galactic scale. I watched a video with Mark Hamill a few days ago where he mentioned that people were constantly asking on set what the "right" way to say things were, and George would answer "just say it however you want." I can't know for sure, but I feel like one of the most obvious effects of that is the "Haan" vs "Hanne" for saying Han Solo's first name.
