This movie when I first watched I was a new father in a bad space mentally, divorced, no way to provide for my boy. Fearful of how much I was ill equipped to defend the one and only thing I had done thus far in my life. I went sober, learned to defend myself and my boy and made him my warrant. That was over 10 years ago and only now I thanked god for pointing me in right direction. This movie made me realize it

Because it’s real. People don’t like real. They’d prefer fantasy or something like “humans are good we’ll come together in crisis” when that couldn’t be further from the truth.

It is a story of being a parent and child in a post nuclear bombing world; people really don't want to think about that, let alone watch a movie about it. It is so wonderful the movie makers got Charlize, Viggo and Cody to play the characters. They made it real.

I watched this yesterday and even though it was a sad apocalyptic movie, it touched my heart. A great bunch of actors that made this movie worth watching. I remember reading a comment that said; " .....for the love of God do not watch this movie if you're depressed...." True, it'll make you feel worse. But it also show the love between a father and his son. Something meaningful that lingers even after the movie ends.

For me it was one of the more real post-apocalyptic movies do to the fact that the event that caused the world to be like it was was natural and not man made. As well as the 'monsters' being human with how many of them get their food. I think for me what was the scariest and real part was the house of Cannibals with the humans in the cellar with missing body parts which has really happened in WW2 many times and you don't see the cannibals killing and eating the people but hear them being killed as well as the mother and her child being killed you only hear the screams which like i said makes those parts even more terrifying.

I keep rewatching this movie every year or so since its release. I can't get over how devastating and realistic it feels. I read the book only recently and now I'm sure I'm going to have a read it every now and then too. Viggo Mortensen was the perfect actor for that role. Few actors understand literature the way he does.

SInce I had a daughter I could not look at life the same... Watching him and his kid, knowing what he would be feeling and the desperation you would feel being able to care for this most important person you could ever have in your world, more important than your own existence seemingly. The protectiveness, the violence you would do to protect, but also finding hope because when everything else fades your dedication to them is all that is ever left, you are truly happy because you are also selfless in your sacrifice as a parent. One can imagine God in all his glory, if he feels what he feels toward his children the mankind, as we learned from the life of Christ . You really don't have to be a Christian to understand this, just have to be a loving parent. The Road is a parent's love story.

there seems to be a lot of movies and TV shows, and pop music, about apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic life. And they have increased in production since movies like Zombies, Night of Living Dead, Invasion of Body Snatchers were released about three decades ago. This one is like an educational/instructional video on ethics and morals when dealing with mad, crazed zombies in a post-apocalyptic world.

If you’re implying a nuclear war, it’s not. The freezing cold temps, ashy atmosphere (causing a lack of sunlight), earthquakes and wildfires indicate the catastrophic disaster was natural (likely a super volcano eruption or a meteor impact), still, nuclear warheads would still produce similar consequences so I guess you’re technically still right if we’re talking about a real life possibility

The first time I watched this I was so shocked by its bleak outlook and the dreadful ominous feeling throughout the first act that I never finished it I was floored when he was showing him to off himself to not be captured alive because of his knowledge of the evils of the human psychological effects of deprivation and the things men do to another man or child and a child is some sort of delicacy is horrific alone and the father is preparing himself to kill his son to protect him from a terrifying prolonged death is just riveting and complex the only two bullets one for each of them rather than defending themselves and that arrow when he was injured he and his son knew that it was a death sentence and the family that was following them was the reason they had to leave the safety and food because they said they heard a dog that freaks him out and sped up the death of the father this movie really shook me to my core because you think of the state of the earth today and I could totally see this happening as American life is deteriorating as we speak

for anyone wondering, the kid most likely gets eaten at the end because the family doesn't have thumbs (represents loss of humanity OR someone caught them and punished them by cutting their thumbs off to warn others?) and they have a dog, which is most likely only alive because it provides value to the family by hunting for prey

People in this movie deserved to die. There was no reason why they had to go through this. Survival would have been easy.

@@JohnDoe-gq3tm how so? Omg, there are so many reasons. For one, green houses could have been used to grow food, using technical glass to gather and focus the remaining light, using all the available wood for heat, water would be no problem, making steam engines to power generators for power, ect. The protagonist and his son should have stayed in the bunker until they were both healthy. It goes on and on, there was no reason for them to go through what they had to. They were all to stupid to live.

@@e9_Tum0r if that's the case they are dead anyway because of no oxygen. But there are still seeds in the ground, other plants, etc. There is absolutely no way all plant life was destroyed.
