THE MAKING （７７）琴ができるまで

　シリーズ「ザ・メイキング」。身近な製品がどのような技術を使ってつくられていくのかを追い、モノの成り立ちと科学技術の関わりを伝えます。今回のテーマは、「琴」。琴の材料は、樹齢60年～70年の桐。琴の等級を決める木目は、複雑なほど高級品とされる。原木選びから製材・乾燥が終わるまで、約1年かけて作業が行われる。琴の裏面を電動カンナでくりぬき、中央部分を薄くしていく作業を「甲造工程」という。更に、細かく緻密な模様を彫ることで、音響効果を増す。模様の種類は、綾杉彫り、子持綾杉彫り、すだれ目彫りがある。みがき作業は、「いぼたの木」の花の花粉をみがき粉にして、「シュロ」の木の表皮で作ったブラシでみがいていく。

今年の正月　お琴の現場を担当しましたが、これほど職人の手が施されているとは驚きです。 機械化がされている現代と違い昔はこの工程を全て人間の手で行われていた事を考えると お琴の製作は本当に職人の技なんですね。 貴重な動画をありがとうございました。

昔、、尾道方面に仕事に行く道すがら松永？？当たり福山と尾道の中間ぐらいに･･確か？牧本楽器と言う琴製作会社があったように思います、皇后陛下に献上品として琴を差し上げたとか聞いたように思いますが、40年かぐらい前なので記憶が曖昧ですが・・・・。

Until the koto is made 2001 14 minutes Series "The Making". We follow what kind of technology is used to create familiar products and convey the relationship between the origin of goods and science and technology. The theme this time is “Koto”. In the brushing work, the pollen of the flowers of "Ibota-tree" is used as the brush, and brushes are made with the brush made of the skin of the "Shiro" tree.

why would you need such a specialized equipment? I don't think it can be adjusted to cut any other diameter.

琴は楽器というより、工芸品　美術品の側面が強いんですね。 同じ弦楽器でも、ギターやバイオリンなどは、製作途中 デジタルで波形を見ながらの音、響き具合の確認は必須。 木目が音の良し悪しに関係するといいながら、映像見る限りでは 音だし確認は皆無ですね。それだけ音に自身があるのでしょうけど。

これは琴ではなく箏です。「いぼたの木の花粉」とはいぼた臘のことですか？いぼた臘はいぼたの木に付いた蟲の白い分泌物です。花粉ではありません。遠くから見れば花にも見えますが。
