Back when the MOA had a variety of interesting stores. Now all it is are clothing stores, jewelry stores, food and cosmetics. The best stores were FAO Schwartz, Bloomingdales, Sears, the Warner Brothers Store, Border's Book Store, The Rainforest Cafe, The Bone Store, Brookstone, Nickelodeon Store. It was so fun when Planet Hollywood opened up. Also loved the little cafe that was right outside the entrance to Nordstrom. Tucci Bennuci was the best restaurant the MOA had also. Every one of those I listed above are now gone except the Rainforest Cafe but they're no longer any good. They got rid of all the things that made them great. Problem was the MOA managers, Triple Fiver Group, got so greedy. The rent for business became outrageous. I remember looking into how much it would be to rent a kiosk and the cost was like $2000 a month plus like 40% of sales. That was in the early 2000s. No one rents them now, they are all run by the MOA. The crime rate is outrageous; stabbings, shootings, throwing a child off the third floor. Security use to be everywhere but now you rarely see a single cop or security guard. It's no longer safe place.

I was watching an interview with Don Shelby (the anchorman in this piece) and he was asked which story in his career he underestimated, and he named the MOA opening. I was too young to remember the opening myself, but OG Camp Snoopy was it.

Bloomingdale's has closed their store at the Mall of America. I'm guessing Sears is next on the chopping block for obvious reasons... I'm not worried about the mall's future, since it has grown to be a tourist destination, and not just another shopping mall... Most might argue that most shopping malls across the United States give us a slice of the Mall of America experience, but there's much more to this gargantuan shopping mall than the usual shops and restaurants that makes it so special!

So so so many happy memories there, I love that place ❤️. It’s heartbreaking that it’s not Camp Snoopy anymore but I’ll always love MOA. I know it’s a long shot, but I hope one day, they bring Camp Snoopy back 🤞

Chris DeLuca Chris DeLuca I hate going to the mall. So crowded, and I'm a minimalist so I don't waste money on crap I don't need. City Nord is the name of my local mall.

It's was my local spot for 3yrs. I heard the mall tried to force Tucci Benucci* upstairs. They said no thank you. And Mall Management let them CLOSE. That was a legacy restaurant, they successfully founded MOA for 25yrs. It was at least 50% of the reason I went to the mall regularly for fried ravioli and the excellent chopped salad. Fools

Does anyone else remember that store that was owned by KTCA? I think it was called the Store of Knowledge and it had a bunch of science stuff in it. I still have some glow in the dark stars from there! Fun times.

The science store was my jam! All sorts of telescopes and space and like futuristic stuff I remember they’d play the Minds Eye vhs tape that features early computer graphic animations and images with sort of cool psych-jazz in the background. They sold cool stuff, I miss early 90s MOA lol

I could make sure you're credited in the credits list. Thanks in advance for considering.
