After all these years, I still get a lump in my throat watching these scenes. So blessed to have my own 2 horses now, often riding with friends, its a lifestyle I will not change for anything. We need more movies like the man from snowy river👌

When my son was little, he just loved this film. We saw it countless times. We even made a video of him at age 5 on his spring rocking horse simulating the epic ride. We turned the camera 45 degrees to simulate the ride down the grueling hill. My son lives out of the country right now but my husband and I just watched the movie again and learned it was taken from a poem. I love your adaptation and will give my son the link as a Christmas gift this year. Thanks for your effort.

A few years ago I took my granddaughter on a trail ride south of Mansfield and the family who ran it were involved in making of the movie. On our ride they pointed out the slope from the adjoining ridge just where that amazing “terrible descent” ride was done. It really is that steep. No digital effects when this movie was made. They knew the young man (as he was then) who actually did it. Still lives in district I believe. It was great to see. Fantastic.

@@graemebdh2172 so The Man from Snowy River who is Tom burlinson. Is he still in Australia I know that he made return to Snowy River which was a good movie as well but I heard that he got hit by a drunk driver and I don't know I think that was maybe just a rumor but just wondering if he's still alive. That's amazing that you got to see that on your horseback ride I would love to do that maybe I'll add that to my bucket list lol
@graemebdh21723 жыл бұрын
@@tinapaxton685 Tim Burlinson is still alive and well as far as I know. You can Google him for more. Married, has kids, does shoes including a Sinatra tribute. He wasn’t the rider for the horse riding in the movie. At least for the scary stuff. Couldn’t risk the star for that (though it was his first film). They had a local rider, a young man who really could ride and was obviously fearless.

When you were raised in Snowy River country, like I was, with crazy fathers who got their kicks wielding whips and chasing wild Brumbies to catch and break in. Sad tested if they'd been tamed enough by seeing if us kids could go on "a little pony ride" on these wild horses and not get bucked off. But they were prey y rebellious and temperamental. We had one he named Gina (after Gina Lollobrigida, a famous Italian star he liked). She would rise up on her hind legs like a human and buck and rear and try to throw us kids off her, CLI going for our lives on her mane.... "Hold tight, hold on you stupid idiots... Show her who's in charge..." he 'd yell at me, the oldest kid supposed to be in control of the horse. But she'd then kick up her hind legs, after losing my young brother who slid down her tail end. And I'd go slithering down over her head. Feeling horse ears against your bare little 7 year old girl legs as you slither down over her head and she glares at you and snorts at you with contempt then kicks you out of her way, to let you know she is going g to stay free and not take any orders from kids or their crazy father is a very peculiar childhood experience... He kept swearing at her, calling her many very choice Aussie expletives, but she ignored it all. That captured her as she tried to flee, me lying in the bulldust, crying over "busted ankle" from my fall off her and her kicks. "Get back on and go again... Don't let her beat you..." He yelled ignoring my crying and very sore ankle..... "Kids need to toughen up to survive... I won't be around forever to save you and your mother is hopeless...". He finally thought she was tame enough to take us kids on a nice little Sunday after lunch pony ride, in our Sunday best clothes, as we had lunch visitors. So we get on her, this time with a saddle and she starts trotting ever so nicely, almost like a champion horse dressage show pony, with her fine dark head. Until she approaches a raised tank stand we had that ha a high enough clearance for two little kids on a horseback to safely pass under. But not this " pony". As soon as she saw it she must have thought "I'll fix these bastards with the Sunday pony rides yet..." She began to bolt. And prance up and down,unlike she fancied herself as a Spanish dancing horse or something. And each time she jumped and bolted under the tank stand, our heads hit it the base of the water tanks stand. My head throbbed in pain after several such thumps but I held tight, as ordered to by dad, though I lost my scared younger brother who fell off. When this "child's pony ride" from hell ended, all my only decent Sunday best white lace dress I ow end was covered in mud blood, dirt... . But, yeah, e very little girl dreams of her little pony... But whenever I did, I had "horsy nightmares". But, despite all the awful things Gina the wild horse did to me, I still loved and admired her wild free spirit, her fine pretty face, her sleek, agile legs and SLM wiry strong body and spent hours looking ng into her wicked but scared looking eyes that had suffered severe " horse abuse", like I had put up with crazy father behaviour he called "being a good family man". And I tried to " understand" her and why she kicked and threw me off a d hurt my ankle, which never fully mended... But, despite a this, I don't regret my wild bush upbringing among all this wilderness, wild horses, wild humans... It has its beauty and freedom...And living so close to nature reminds us humans of just exactly how insignificant we really are in the grander scheme of the universe. It is very humbling. You learn to love and respect and try to understand the likes of Gina, the wild horse. A d when you have an un derstanding of such animal life, you can get a better un derstanding of the human "animal life", including all those urban type ferals on city streets running wild, refusing to obey laws wear Covid masks, stay home during lock down etc. Such seemi fly pretty primitive cou try life activities can often teach us much, despite their feral simplicity etc.
