Musambwa, an island on Lake Victoria in Uganda, is inhabited only by men - and snakes. About a thousand deadly cobras inhabit the island - seen by the fishermen who live there as spirits, rather than just snakes.

Yernagulapeta is small village in Srikakulam district of Andrapradesh ...where similar respect for maroon colored cobra snakes are found and peacefully they co-exist with villagers. The name of village it self is made of "Yer" means red in telegu, Nagula means cobra and peta means a domicile ...thus Yernagulapeta the name is coined. In English it is translated as the place of red cobras... Am proud to be native of this village...jai hind.

@Mariam Lutakome Really? snakes are not devils i too have a pet one who is just as friendly as any dog and dogs kill a lot of people in aggression or defence like recently a german shepherd attacked a little girl an almost killed her. but people die from snakes because they defend themselves if someones chases you with a shovel and try's to decapitate you are going to defend yourself. snakes exist just to survive and they are shy of humans. i love both dog and snake so stop hating on snakes.

The most beautiful part is how they live the will of God in this island,,,they are not led by greed to destroy nature,,,though believing in spirits and not God is somehow extreme,,,,again I think it's natural and I came to.realixe this,,unless an animal is disturbed it does not just attack so it is possible to live peacefully with a lot of animals,,,so I do r think it's about spirits but about understanding....migingo island belongs to no one it should be shared by pple...though U Ganda walisema ni Yao....I wonder why it is not feeding all the Ugandans who can not keep their feet off Kenya seeking a better life! Wish...we must live in peace and oneness
