Jazaka Allahu khayran Ustad ! One of the meanings we can extract from this story is that all the prophets may peace of Allah be upon them ( from Adam to Mohammed) informed and warned their people of the messiah al dajjal.

Wa'aalikum Assalaam Wa Rahmatullah. Brother Majed, if may ask you regarding protection from Ad Dajjaal. If someone spent life time not memorising Surah Al Kahaf or did not even read/recite it on Friday(due to being very weak in reading Quran), but she/he did used to seeking protection against Dajjaal from Allah before making tasleem in most of his/her fard Salah as per Sunnah, does that mean she/he is still eligible for protection against Ad Dajjaal or it goes hand-in-hand with Surah Kahf as well? BarakAllahufeek

Dr. Yasir Qadhi said this narration is extremely weak and he does not support the view that dajjal was alive at that time. Allah knows best.

May Allah bless you. Yes, I came across that opinion. From my readings, it seems like a minority opinion. For this one, I'd follow the more widely known opinion, in shaa Allah, which is that it is authentic as it is in Saheeh Muslim. And Allah knows best.
