In this video:
Personally nominated for the Nobel Prize a record 84 times, Arnold Johannes Wilhelm Sommerfeld was one of the most influential physicists of all time, both because of his own accomplishments in the field and the many dozens of his students who turned into superstars in the world of science (including having four doctoral students go on to win the Nobel Prize, along with three of his other postgraduate students also taking home the award- the most eventual Nobel laureates all taught by one person).

Today I Found Out Sometimes you talk just a tad too quickly and I wish you would not because it seems to be conforming to the typical KZbin format where it makes people look like they are in a hurry and have to run out the door somewhere. I'm not trying to be rude and I do like most of your content and that this channel is intelligent... I just wish the pace was just slightly more leisurely.

Sommerfeld was one of the best physicists ever. I also recommend finding his books "Arnold Sommerfeld - Lectures on Theoretical Physics" (six volumes) which are still some of the best books on theoretical classical physics available.

I don't understand why everyone is jumping on Bill Baran. Most "regular" people won't know about this "giant", because most of us aren't scientists. When I was studing physics on university, profesor once said something like that. "Cherenkov won Nobel prize for his description of Cherenkov effect, something that Sommerfeld did before Cherenkov was born." To be just to both sides, Sommerfeld solve this problem on sheet of peaper, before it was observed and before Einstein discover special relativity. For meny years people wrongly belief that Einstein theory forbids Cherenkov effect and Sommerfeld's work was forgoten as mistaken concept.

In case anyone was wondering like I was how someone even receives something like 84 nominations, it turns out there are usually a few thousand nominations each year. Also, though Sommerfeld received 84 nominations it was by 42 individuals, one of which nominated him 13 separate times. Still 84 nominations is quite impressive as it is indeed the record.

Fencing? Probably not. There was a German tradition of trading blows from sharp swords though. Forgot the name of the practice, but it's distinct from fencing.

I'm a bit of a fanboy when it comes to the "golden age" of physics. I've read biographies of most of the greats from that era, but somehow I don't remember him at all (though I'm certain his name would have been mentioned frequently). Thanks for letter me know about such a great person.

Why is there not a default Peace Prize given to anyone nominated a set number of times while listing the specific influence that person has had?
