Hey everyone, Over the last few days, a lot of new eyes have seen this video, and I am endlessly grateful. As a result, I have seen a few comments regarding future content, so I just want to give anyone new an update on that: I am working on a new video, and I hope to release it later this year, but this is unfortunately not a full-time job, and I am in my first year of a Science Degree that has been taking up a lot of my time. You can check out my community posts for a record of what I have been doing since this video released about a year and a half ago. Thank you all for supporting the channel. The dream of going full time is always burning, and the support is just fuel to that fire.

A group of three ruthless killers who held Belgium in thrall from 1982-1985. They killed without discrimination, and the case remains unsolved. It's a case that not a lot of KZbinrs have touched on. Could be interesting.

I'm not ashamed to admit that the early part about the person who was pursued by the mystery Chevy literally made my skin crawl- the hair was actually rising on my arms- and I'm only a few minutes in! SO spooky, and the starkly novel animation & unobtrusive music only highlighted the creepiness. Very professionally created. Well done!

@@banditoyt Your research is also SO thorough; I've watched a great many documentaries on this subject, and the this is the first time I've heard some of that info you gleaned from the very early police reports. I'm almost certain I've never heard anything about "Peggy" the witness, the mysterious "George," nor that one of the early victims had told a babysitter she'd been threatened previously. I've also never heard that anyone specifically described the attacker as not wearing glasses, or that 3 women reported a suspicious man loitering around before the lake Berryessa (sp?) attacks. Even the professionally produced TV documentaries never mentioned any of the above. Also, FWIW, "The Most Dangerous Game" was one of my dad's favorite stories as a kid, and according to him it was required reading for many students in the 1930s-40s. This is definitely one of those supremely disturbing cases, considering the fact that the killer was never caught. I know the likelihood is that he's no longer alive, which almost makes this more creepy. Just the thought that he COULD technically somehow still be out there, walking free...ooh, it gives me chills!

I have read comments both here, and on Reddit, and it's fascinating to see how many theories and suspects there really are. In the video I chose to focus on my personal prefered suspect, and two more "obscure" ones. But ultimately, the goal of the video was not to make anyone agree with my conclussion, but instead to present the facts, give some personal insight, and allow the viewer to be inspired to form their own conclusions, or to do their own research. So it is motivating seeing so many, including yourself, throw out your own prefered suspects and theories. Absolutely love it.

This is extremely well done. However, I must point out one inaccuracy I've noticed: according to Bryan Hartnell himself, at 21:29 the Zodiac never said, "I'm going to have to stab you", but instead simply took out the knife and started stabbing him, much to Cecilia's horror. One of the key reasons he survived and she didn't was that he didn't expect it; however, she did after seeing him get stabbed, which caused her to panic and roll around as Z did the same to her, creating more erratic and deadlier wounds than she would've sustained if she had lied still. The whole "I can't stand to see her stabbed" exchange is pure fiction that was invented to make the event seem "more dramatic" for its inclusion in a "true crime" novel about the murders.

Hey, thank you for watching, and thank you for pointing it out. However, I just rechecked my source, and I am going to have to disagree with you. I understand there is a lot of misinformation floating around about the Zodiac cases, which is why I based the overwhelming majority of my information off of the official police reports, including that exchange between Hartnell and Z. While I will concede that Hartnell might have fabricated, or misremembered the exact events, these events are documented in the police report, so I believe its inclusion is valid. Feel free to check out my sources by following the link in the description.

In 2008 he had this to say in an interview with Inland Empire magazine about his involvement with the 2007 David Fincher film: Before filming began, Zodiac producers gave Hartnell a copy of the script. Although a few facts had to be compressed for time constraint, he asked for one change. Robert Graysmith had heard from one of the investigators that Hartnell had told the Zodiac, "I'm chicken, stab me first." He won't come out and say it but, clearly, he finds the misquote deeply offensive. Most importantly, he says, it's untrue. "The only reason I'm sensitive about it is it's so preposterous", he explains. "First of all I had no clue that it [the stabbing] was going to happen until it happened. And I don't think a person who was chicken would say 'I'm chicken, stab me first'. I mean, I can say 'I'm chicken, I don't want to be stabbed', but I don't think anyone would say, 'stab me first!'" He won his case and the line was excised from the script.

That's quite interesting. The police report was obviously writen at the moment of taking the statement, so I do wonder why Hartnell would backpaddle on his statement. If you'd like, I can give you the link to the report page I found the statement on, if it would be of any aid. I'll do some additional research on the matter. If I am convinced, I will add it to the corrections. I am however biased towards using the information in the police report, since the statement was taken a few days after the fact, at most, instead of many years after the fact.

I have been obsessed with this case for going on 20 years. I've watched probably close to 100 docs, podcasts, read numerous pieces, on and on. I agree with you btw on Bates , I also agree that despite certain misses, I don't think you can outright dismiss Allen as a suspect still. Completely agree with you. This video was shared on the Zodiac Killer subreddit, and even there people had misconceptions, at least, that is in regards to my research. Most of my research was done using the police reports from the cases, and I have noticed many of the disputed facts are in cases where the noted person, or someone close to them, disputed it after the fact. So when even the involved people are somewhat changing their stories, getting the correct one is difficult.

I have always been convinced that at least 2 different attacker's were responsible for the Zodiac murders because 1 description of the Zodiac killer had him with a widow's peak short clean cut built good and in the lake Berriessa attacks they thought he had dark curly hair and that tells me that there had to be at least 2 murderers working together on these killings just to taunt the media spread fear and definitely was trying to taunt law enforcement.

I think Mike Mageau knows more than he is saying. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Darlene Ferrin married? Running around with a married woman increases the chances of someone not liking you. If Darlene made a habit of running around there could be any number of suspects not attached to the ZODIAC. Also, Mageau was apparently known as a low-level drug dealer/thief known to the police. ..I'm no expert on this case by any means, but were these things looked into? Again, I'm not an expert, but I'm not sure the Lake Berryessa Attacks are anything but a copycat. Just my opinion mind you.

Love this Lemmino style of documentary. Great work man. Just a quick suggestion: I think your voice is very suitable for narration, however there are quite a few “mouth noises” in the audio (such as lip smacking etc.) that are a little uncomfortable to listen to. There are some audio processing tools such as de-essers, noise gates and equalizers which can really help minimize these noises. Maybe worth looking into. I look forward to your future content!

Perfectly done documentary! Very effective, full of facts from good solid sources. Thank you. I think that Zodiac was somehow related with armed forces - fired police enforcer, army vet or someone like that and I would like to know if SFPD ever investigated this hypothesis. There are multiple reasons for it: 1.) investigators considered interesting how Zodiac described ammo used for killings in his letters (its supposed to be written in the same way how police reports were done), 2.) his way of announcing murders (I want to report murder, no, double murder....) was done in so emotionaly distant way that police officer who received call thought that its scheriff or somelike that announcing the shooting to police dept. 3.) When police arrived on scene of two crimes with survivors both survivors thought that killer returned (and there are obviously subconcious reasons WHY they both thought the same thing). 4.) multiple things which happened during (he possibly asked Stine to go one street further because of possible witness with dog on original destination) and after Stine murder (cutting the shirt, he did not hurry from crime scene, he even did not panic when police car was driving next to him, etc.)... In case of DeAngelo, survivors mentioned to police, they suspected that perpetrator was somehow related with army or police according to way how he acted plus what he said to them.... I would not exclude, that survivors of Zodiac killer noticed something in his acting why they thought that arriving police officer is perpetrator coming back. Also - there is one thing which IMO totally excludes Arthur Lee Allen as Zodiac IMO - this sort of killers live double life and they strictly separate their killing from "normal" life. So its absolutely wrong to think, that real Zodiac would tell others he is the one. This is done by attention seekers, not real perpetrators. Even egoistic maniacs (who craved attention) like BTK managed to "hide" this terrible criminal side of their live from others. So in my opinion real Zodiac never "suggested" he is the one, his relatives and friends never suspected him to be him and quite possibly even ciphers were "hidden" hobby which was not noticed by his closed relatives. BTW English is my 2nd language and some of mistakes Zodiac did in spelling in his letters I would never do and they are not spelling mistakes probably. When I read Beli letter, the "mistakes" in that letter are just super-weird. So I wrote all words with those mistakes on paper and wrote added or missed letters in words of that letter and this is what I got: - "Christmass" (S); "Extreamly (A + missing E - and this might be proper mistake); "Dificult" (missing "F"), "nineth" (E); posibly (missing S), victom (O instead of I - actually I would understand that as typewriting error as I and O are next to each other, but not with hand-written letter - so this is deliberate); "drownding" (D), "triger" (missing G), controol (O) - he wrote the word "control" more times in that letter, and in correct way - in this case, that mistake seems almost "forced"..... Result: "safe sid go"..... What the hell that meant? Do you know what it reminds me? Message like: "Rex, it will be ok." - advert which police used to catch BTK.... What if this was message to "someone" and ZK was hired gun (and then "contracted" murder was hidden among others) and not psycho serial killer as general opinion is?

I absolutely love comments like these, thank you for that. The issue with hyper analyzing these letter is that we have our own confirmation bias - not saying that's the case for you, but it definitely was for me. As soom as you want something to be true or you already have your opinion, even subconsciously, you search for things that confirm it. Case in point: For the video, I edited the 408 cipher so that the cipher is replaced by the message, while keeping all the letters in the same place as their repsective cipher. As a bit of a "what if", I scanned through it to see if maybe the killer left a clue in the layout of the message. And that's when I found it. If you accept that the two letters between "words" count as spaces, you can spell "I AM AL", which could be Arthur Leigh, of it could be someone else... But most likely, it's a complete coincidence and my confirmation bias played me. But following on from your armed forces theory... I have to agree with you. The bootprint at Berryessa was military issue, so I would agree that the killer was either in the military, or the police, most likely the former.

@@banditoyt Actually - when I did this with Beli letter, it was just an experiment. I wrote those wrongly spelled words on my paper and expected absolute mess.... I really never expected anything meaningful, just random pile of nonsense letters.... and it actually stunned me, that it wasnt the case! I forgot to mention something - in your documentary, I heard something for the first time ever. Those military shoes were sold through ONE seller only in region and they had a list of only hundred people who bought them in the Zodiac´s size??? Is that confirmed information???

I received this information straight from the police report, and I believe this merely accounted for Travis Air Force Base. Considering wingwalker boots were both AF and Navy issue, it could be argued that the boots could have come from a nearby Navy base as well, but I could not confirm this as the police report only mentioned TAFB. You are welcome to check up on my references for yourself by following the link in the description and following the instructions. Most of these links take you to the exact page in the report. Edit: On your first point, I apologize for it sounding like I was accusing you for having confirmation bias. My point was actually just that it was difficult to search for subtle details if the person searching already has something that they are looking for.

@@banditoyt Sorry for coming back after some time :) I re-watched the video after some time again and I have couple of questions if you dont mind - or for anyone else familiar with case. 1.) how reliable you think that known physical evidence of case is? I dont know why, but I simply cannot believe that Zodiac would be so dumb to leave palm prints (on letters) or fingerprints when gloves are so obvious and simple solution.... 2.) how reliable you think that witness accounts of people on scene in this case are? My guess would be Hartnell probably almost perfectly correct, but I have issue with reliabilty of Mageau statement. I would like to know, when Mageau´s testimony about Farren saying "oh, never mind" about the man was said - right after the crime or with long delay? The reason why I´m asking this is because I would like to value importance of this "oh, never mind" testimony. There are two possibilities - if early, its crucial testimony, if long after its worthless testimony (and probably creation of imagination, basically it really did not happen that way). 3.) considering point two /in case its crucial testimony/.... there is one hgihly suspicious aspect of the second shooting - your documentary stated in part about ALA, that Farren was somehow familiar with somewhat suspicious guy under short and common name - and later it was confirmed by her family members that "Lee" was that name. Now.... (elephant in the room question).... what if that Lee is NOT ALA, but the man who is mentioned in video as colleague of her husband who actually was Lee. What I find as very strange is why her husband visited police station with his employer (or colleague Bill Lee)? Why together? Night shift? What if..... I thought to myself, if she would see jealous husband in that car, she would not say "oh, never mind", but if she saw employer of her husband there... its that type of "relationship" which perfectly fit to that reaction. If her husband had good relationship with his employer, she would possibly know him, but would not feel any treat. What if.... (and now I´ll describe crazy simple scenario of killing): her husband is jealous guy and he knows she is not loyal to him at all (let´s be honest, it´s obvious....) and he cannot stand it anymore.... what if she had her "favourite" places for her affairs and he realized where they are? What if he asked his friend Bill to borrow his vehicle (as few times before...) to wait on place, which is somehow linked to "her favourite places of affairs" - and he waited for some time there, in expectation of huge confrontation.... then he probably saw some "suspicious car" which he followed for some time with borrowed car and later stopped (for some reason).... and during way back home, he saw car of his wife and could not believe it. He got back "somewhere" (to work possibly) and asked Bill to "check it out" - if he really saw, what he thinks he saw... Bill gets there, Darlene recognizes him, but because she feels no threat or anything, she just say "oh, never mind...." (if it was her husband she would react in very different way) - and then Bill returned, told what he saw to her husband - and he, in full fit of rage returns to the place and shoots the couple. Bill caught in cage of guilt because he "helped" to commit double murder.... Calls as fake alibi? Also one thing which struck my mind - driver who was followed in car, described a stalking driver wearing glasses and just another simple hypothesis.... what if he needed glasses for driving or for darkness - nights? Because it was said that Zodiac was seen with them...
