Useful bit of reccying for those of us doing Manchester for the first time. Thanks.

Thanks for this Mack. Definitely a proper hill. Especially after 16 miles. Bring it on...

Relative to the rest of the course profile, I think it can be a jarring surprise for those not expecting it. Hopefully this video helps folks be mentally prepared for that 16-mile hiccup! Best of luck!

Brilliant, thank you for the thorough research! Also doing Manchester this month and have heard a few horror stories about this hill. To be honest doesnt look as bad as some of the hills in the Belfast marathon route so should be grand! Better to know what we're up against though!

Best wishes with the marathon training. Spring on its way. Been a wet one.

£5 says you neck the bottle of water at the bottom and sprint up it 😂 Great memories! I think I'd approach it with more caution this time. We'll done for the half in Wilmslow too 😎

Haha, maybe if it was Rattler… Gonna slow it right down for the hill… At least, that’s what I’m telling myself! 😅

Hi there. I ran Manchester last year but also live in Altrincham so run the third 10k of the Marathon on my long runs each week. Let me tell you - it doesn't get easier. Not only is this hill steep, and the bridge you go over and back over on the way out, but there's also some other long steep inclines shortly before and shortly after. It's my second time running Manchester, and although I feel a lot more prepared than last year, I still don't have a solid pacing plan in place, as this third 10k of the race is so tricky to navigate. If you're attempting to negative split, a tough 3rd quarter makes it really difficult to pick up the pace after the first half. It's billed as flat and friendly - but in my opinion, it definitely isn't! One silver lining is that although some of these hills can be tough, the support around these areas is often the best to get you through. Good luck on the day!

great insight into the course! I think you're well practiced with hill running after Nottingham and the Malverns. Best of luck for Manchester!

Ah didn't realise you'd started a channel until it just came up on recommendations! We'll give your recent catalogue a browse tonight. Hope the taper goes well. Subscribed, obviously.

Cheers for this - honestly looked initially like there was no real hill to speak of then you turn the corner… Looking forward to giving this a bash

You’re welcome! Again, the downhill is quite nice and should allow recovery of legs and time. Best of luck!

Maybe wrong, but i think theyve changed the route this year to take out the return up stamford street. It now crosses the train line and then rejoins the dual carriageway up the slip road 😅

Gotta love the gentle lumps 🤪

Good to know. Though I did the Ashby 20 in training and that is ALL hills. Dropping the pace for the hill and recovering on the downhill seems sensible.

Thank you for covering this. Its good to see what we are up against! How far is that hill roughly?
@StevenNeeson8 ай бұрын
Just seen you had put on the distance 😊
@Mack.Tracks8 ай бұрын
Yep, it lasts for about 300m at the 16 mile/25ish KM point. Certainly makes for an interesting obstacle but crowd support is usually great there!
