2:40 "When Leia points out the growing threat of the First Order years from now she will be labeled a war monger. After the rebellion, I think the New Republic wanted peace so badly they buried their heads in the sand" Precisely the stuff that lead to WW2 after WW1. Countries refusing to intervene because they don't want another war which in turn leads to the most devastating war in Human history.

That's exactly what I was thinking. The way the New Republic is behaving in canon so far gives me a very League of Nations Appeasement vibe. I hope they continue to lean into that the closer we get to the time period of the sequels.

@@tristanskywalker1998 Read Bloodlines if you want a good look into the shortcomings of the New Republic and how it would eventually fail. The sequels didn’t really go into the politics of the time, but they’ve always been pretty interesting in the books. On one end, you have a New Republic that kneecapped itself, both militarily and legislatively, because it didn’t want to appear at all like the Empire. And it was tied down by the same bureaucracy of the prequel era. On the other end, you had a new generation and people from core worlds that was unfamiliar with how bad the empire was, and some assumed that the atrocities of the empire were either exaggerations or lies. It’s basically the same sort of revisionist history and misinformation we see around the nazis and the holocaust today in some circles. The idea of a strongman government is appealing to these people because they know the New Republic is ineffective and don’t understand how bad the empire really was.

When they said they found beskar in the cabin, I remembered that Bo-Katan said that her people left her to go be mercenaries. It would be interesting if part of the conflict of this season was Bo-Katan trying to convince her former followers to abandon the Imperial Remnant and build something real with the other Mandalorians.

I don't know how many Mandalorians would even be allowed to work with the Empire still. I do wonder if it's a group of rogue Mandalorians seeking revenge and hunting down Gideon, or maybe some beskar made its way into special armor made for Thrawn's army. The warlord that was working under Thrawn (at least according to Asokha) we saw back in season 2 had a beskar spear, so it's possible there's more beskar around in imperial hands

@@podracer35 true, but Bo will still put the rogue Mandalorians in their place. They likely did help Moff Gideon because he took the Dark Saber -- as Maul did, and many followed him because he had possession of the saber.

On first watch, I had the same thought about the mercenaries. I really like the idea as a plot line. Suddenly, Bo would have to face her old crew unsure if they will be friend or foe or how she can win them back. On the other hand, there are lots of other possibilities as we have seen imperials get their hands on Beskar sometimes. Did Mandalorians execute their own form of justice upon him? Are some Mandalorians taking mercenary jobs on behalf of the empire? Are Mandalorians being framed and if so to what end? Are Imperials using Beskar to better arm themselves? It is intriguing to see where they take things next. I don't have a problem with Gideon's escape being offscreen because it leaves an intriguing mystery. On the negative side, I continue to find it bewildering how whole planets like Navarro and Tatooine (as it was in the Book of Boba) lack any kind of military defenses. Without protection, they are just asking for trouble. On earth, you wouldn't have a country without defenses let alone a planet in the unpoliced outer rim. Even the lowly Gungans of Naboo had some shielding! Or maybe Disney just can't afford the budget to make it happen.

It would be very Thrawn-like to frame the Mandalorians for Gideon's capture. Assuming those were his ships in ep. 3, that tells us that he sees them as a threat to his goals, so making them a target for the NR would distract two of his enemies at once. I hope this is what they're leading to.

This was a fun outing and offset the depression I got from the Bad Batch two parter finale, but that's another story. This episode definitely went in ways I didn't expect, from the Mandalorians having a (landed gentry) home again, to the Armorer coming around on the helmet attitude with Bo-Katan, to the ending with the shuttle. What I did expect and am really disappointed in though is Teba trying to appeal to the New Republic and getting blocked by bureaucratic red tape. Such a sad reflection of how things really are. When I saw the Lasat pilot I was not sure if it was Zeb and didn't get my hopes up. Boy was I thrilled when the credits and Steve Blum's named listed confirmed it.

I was really surprised by Paz's show of support here. He's always cast as the opposing side of Mando's aims. When I heard "because We are Mandalorains!" it just about gave me goosebumps. The battle was my favorite part of this whole episode! I can only think of three times where an army of Mandalorians has been cast as the good guys in a fight and I loved every second of it! I worry over the Armorer's motivations in their last part of the episode. Her playing kingmaker unsettles me. And while I am all for a united Mandalorian people again, her aims seems to be to unite them under The Way. If that means strictly her interpretation of The Way then there are going to be problems.

I see a theme in the last few episodes of the Mandalorian of the New Republic overcorrecting from the Empire; in this case, having such tight control over their military that a captain has to fly *all the way to Coruscant himself* from the Outer Rim just to get authorization to launch a mission against some pirates; there are no elected or military officials who are actually near what's happening to make the call.

I didn’t take the “we’re going to Mandalore” going against Greef Karga’s invitation to stay on Navarro as bad writing, but rather as The Armorer wanting to unite all of The Mandalorians, and Karga simply providing a gesture of good will for bailing his town folks out. He already offered it to Mando in episode 1 of this season, but Mando declined. Perhaps some will choose to stay! I also think Favreau and Filoni are being deliberately mysterious with what happened with Moff Gideon to pay off the dialogue in The Convert episode where the three former Imperials were talking with Dr. Pershing and they all had different answers as to what exactly happened to him. So we are inching closer to that answer. I thought the closing scene was really cool! This season has been amazing!

I don't see the ending the same way you do. Events can be TWO things. She isn't out of this Covert. She is in the Covert AND independent of it. That's how she can walk in two worlds and unite Mandalore. The Mandalorians will always have a home on Nevarro AND from there they can plan to retake Mandalore. It's like moving out on your own but your parents still have the house you grew up in. Both are considered home. Lastly, Bo-Katan was feeling lost and joining Din's Covert made her feel connected to her people again. The Armorer sensed she still needed a push to take the next step and get it to her. All made sense to me.

I think Bo Katan was sincere, if a little wary, about joining the culvert. She'd lost Mandalore, lost the opportunity to defeat Gideon and reclaim the Darksaber, lost her Night Owls and followers, lost her literal home (her family's castle). She bathed in the waters not in an intentional attempt at redemption, but to save Din. It was a selfless act. When she reached the culvert and the Armourer declared her Mandalorian (by their standards), I truly believe she was open to giving it a shot, for several reasons: a) she had nothing else anymore and this was at least fellow Mandalorians who accepted her without judgement of her past, b) her life choices before had led her to pain and loss, and this was a new beginning worth exploring, a fresh start, a chance to reflect on those choices and maybe make better ones, and c) I think Grogu's presence may very subtly be a light for people at an existential crossroads in their life, like Din, Cara Dunn, Greef Carga, Pellie. They still have freewill and can choose, but encountering Grogu shows them a better path. It reminds them of something they maybe forgot about themselves. I really enjoy seeing her immediate acceptance of and compassion towards Grogu. Perhaps even the Armourer felt that light and was able to meet Bo Katan's less rigid philosophy halfway in part because of it (the Armourer even says that a new age is upon them. Maybe that was her crossroads, having to decide how to continue to shepherd her flock learning that Bo Katan saw a Mythosaur on a Mandalore that wasn't uninhabitable. Her beliefs were challenged and she faced those facts rationally, but with introspection). I see this series asking deep questions about faith, beliefs, choices and identity. Sometimes it asks them directly, sometimes they simmer under the surface.

I feel like the reason we didn’t see who rescued/captured Gideon is because the identities would be obvious … Empire Remnant or splinter Mandalorian group etc … for now it leaves a bit of mystery and some “is it or isn’t it” talk regarding the Beskar remnant. The elephant in the room is the Dark Saber. Din wields it, Bo wants it, Din doesn’t want it’s accompanying responsibilities. With the Armorer yielding on the helmet rule could they (Mandolorians) also start to see some lee way in the “must be won in combat” rule?

What’s great and poetic about the Mandalorians rescuing Nevarro from pirates is that they’re heroes for real this time and it’s not staged like Death Watch arresting the Crime families in TCW. And Bo Katan is leading them. She truly redeemed herself in more ways than one.

So, I think that Bo needed to be more "passive" in a sense. When we meet her, she is broken and defeated and depressed. She has lost her way, and needs direction. Being with the Children of the Watch, choosing to follow the Way, has given her a sense of purpose and direction. Seeing the mythosaur has awakened her faith again, and the armorer has now given her the push she needs to gather the forces for a new Mandalore. Bo has been very quiet the last few episodes, but I think she has been thinking and observing. She had found her footing again, and she needed the time with the Children of the Watch to do it.

You're missing where Bo was, mentally, when Din brought her to his clan. She had lost _everything_. All because of decisions she had made. She had completely failed. All she had was her armor. Her last layer of protection. In her weeks or months with the clan, she wasn't just going along with keeping her helmet on. She was recovering from her wounds. And was happy to keep that visor between her and the rest of the world. _That's_ why she hesitated when the armor told her to take it off and then only did so reluctantly. She was going to have to face the world again without her armor after her complete failure. That's why she looked like she was forcing herself to be proud when she walked back to her ship with the armorer. That scene was perfect.

Here’s the super chat that wouldn’t go through but I’ve added more: The more I watch the Mandalorian the more I’m convinced that this is Grogu’s origin story. That’s why it’s in chapters. Din only wants to be a Dad and raise a strong Mandalorian he is not interested in leadership. Bo will lead. She will ride the mythosaur with the help of Grogu calming it down. Din will keep the black saber and pass it onto his boy when he grows up. He’ll still be cute just older. Jon Favreau is a GENIUS! He has done a bait and switch! The bait was the name of the show and had the audience thinking it’s about Din the switch is it’s about Grogu.

I think the point of Bo joining the covert and following their rules... is to show the Bo is starting to see some of the good things the covert has to offer. I think she is feeling conflicted which maybe is why it seems like she isnt making choices, she is still trying to make sense of everything. She sees the value of "the way" especially after her experience with the others, but also doesnt know how she feels about every rule. This is how she falls into the middle and her and other mandalorians will likely do the same. Take the best of both sides.

A missed opportunity that they could have done with the Pirates was have their starfighters be Uglies. I can understand why they didn't because it's cheaper but I would love to see the mish mash of starships show up maybe in Skeleton Crew.

I rarely disagree with your assessments. On the topic of Bo Katan, I appreciate that she walked the path of the zealots for a short time. She was without a clan and had lost everything and everyone. It would have been mighty presumptuous for her to come in spouting orders and ideas. She fell in line, found a place among Mandalorians, and then was recognized for that flexibility and integrity. She respected their customs and was motivated by unity. Her humility earned their respect.

I interpreted the “retake Mandalor” statement to be metaphorical. We go to see how desolat the planet Madalor was and I think that kind of puts a pin on anyone living there for now. But the reuniting of all mandalorians could also be considered reclaiming Mandalor in this context I think.

I saw a comment somewhere where someone proposed it might have been Sabine who took Gideon. If Gideon is connected to Thrawn, that might make sense for the search for Ezra to question Gideon about Thrawn.

The armorer should have taken her helmet off also, to put Bo-Katan at ease. Also, Din should have pinned Moff Gideon's head to the deck with that spear when he had the chance.

Had a discussion with a few of my friends, and a thought came up: We know Elia Kane is a loyal servant to Gideon, who was stationed on Mandalore when he got the Darksaber from Bo. What if Elia is a former Supercommando, or even a member of Clan Saxon?

Is it possible that a certain Chiss admiral sprung Gideon and left the beskar as a misleading clue to throw off the new republic? It seems sloppy for whoever broke moff Gideon out of the ship to both leave damming evidence inside the hull and to leave the ship floating in space at all, unless it is meant to serve as a misdirection.

It seems as if this season is a Frankenstein's monster incorporating content from the now defunct Rangers of the New Republic. I'm not complaining though. Loving every episode.

99% sure that it was Simu Liu as a Republic pilot (right at minute 37:00). He did a voice on Star Wars Visions, starred with Paul Lee on Kim's Convenience, and was screaming about Mando S3 in January.

I loved the cameo from Mollie in the bed. Alex is a bad influence on me pronouncing Carson Teva's name wrong. If Mandalorians did indeed liberate Moff Gideon from the prisoner transport shuttle, I wonder if the Armorer could be involved? Since Moff GIdeon wielded the darksaber & he got it off of Bo-Katan for a while there he was the rightful owner (and he used it better than Din does). So could the Armorer be using Moff Gideon to challenge Din for the darksaber even though he lost it to Din before? Basically, I still don't trust the Armorer's motivations.

I interpreted the scene between the Armorer and Bo Katan as more one about the Armorer seeking to elevate her own status among all Mandalorians. Removing your helmet seemed to be the most egregious thing someone could do and yet the Armorer is just like "no, you can do it, because you're special Bo Katan". It just felt like the Armorer was playing to Bo Katans ego, telling her that she was special and the one who has walked both paths and that she alone can unite Mandalore. If the Armorer believes that both Din and Bo are under her sway and Din has the Darksaber and Bo has the Mythosaur and the Armorer is the one pulling both their strings then that makes the Armorer the most powerful. I think it's still too early to say that the Armorer was a good person, if just misguided, all along. Definitely got vibes of her wanting to unite Mandalore... and make everyone live as the cult does, and Bo Katan will be her willing prophet. My only remaining question is does Bo really believe all this stuff or is she just going along with it?

Yes! Well said. I don’t trust Bo or the Armorer. It’s interesting that in some ways Din is being sidelined especially with Bo not admitting to him to seeing the Mythosaur.

@@nancygreen3962 great point. I think the way the story is being presented this season is slightly confusing and takes some putting the dots together by fans , but I don't think most people get it. I think the Armorer is up to something, and I think Bo Katan is certainly going to be up to something...
