The addition of the percussion really makes this great.

Creative use of both an F and BBb contra! The different timbres truly work together to fill out the bottom of the sound better than either could on it’s own!

This is the first video I can recall seeing where the Miraphone contra is actually being played. What a treat!

It's definitely not an easy thing to play. It took a while to figure out where the notes were, haha. I much prefer my F contra, but this one does still pack quite a punch.

I am speechless at how glorious your bass trombones sound! Your playing is so clean, thank you for uploading this. P.S.: I remember watching your Saturday Night trombone solo around 6 years ago when I played trombone in high school! I hope you continue playing trombrone all your life.

Loved it! You sound amazing! Question: what app/program do you use to record yourself and blend yourself with yourself? TIA
@RobertToddJr4 жыл бұрын
For recording myself, I used the program Logic (mac only) with my mic (SM7B) through an interface. After I made sure everything was as good as it can be, I sent all the parts (Wave files) to my friend Peter, who then mixed and blended everything. (sorry, I don't know what program he uses)
@peterbaird75974 жыл бұрын
I used Studio One 5 Professional for the mix. I was a Pro Tools guy for 25 years, finally had enough of giving Avid money and moved to Presonus. S1 is a really terrific music platform. Rob sent me the raw trombone tracks as WAV files, I did a little tweaking with Melodyne and sent him a rough mix. But I kept thinking, "this need drums! Lots of drums!" So Rob indulged me for a few weeks and I started building percussion tracks using virtual instruments. All the marching stuff is from the Sample Logic Virtual Ensemble Trilogy (which I guess is a bunch of Blue Devils samples) and the orchestral stuff is from the PSO orchestra set by Presonus. Before I mixed I doubled all the bones with Revoice Pro (you hear that on the second statement of the theme and the bridge section) and spread the doubles out to the edge of the field. Reverb on the bones is Eventide 2016, perc verb is the included Presonus Room Reverb. Slate FG-Mu is across the bones, Waves L2 across the perc, and an L3 across the whole mix.

@@peterbaird7597 Thanks, Peter for the useful information about the mixing process. One year ago I adquired the Presonus recording tool which for my son who is in charge of sound mixing. The outcoming quality is outstanding, you can hear every single note, especially the very low ones on contra bass trombone. I love Robert's sound on all the trombones but the greates sound I've ever hear on contra bass trombone is in this recording. Happy Christmas time despite of the problems with Corona-virus!

Mr. Todd, this arrangement is really great, thank you for posting this video. Where can we buy this arrangement or others you did?
@RobertToddJr3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I did not make the arrangement, the arranger gave it to me. And anything Star Wars is too difficult to publish.
