____________
📙 Backstory:
I wrote "The Manor Waltz" in March 2023.
This piece tells the story of a Manor estate in the 17/18th century, with the surrounding atmosphere of European Romanticism.
After watching a few period pieces and "Howl's moving Castle" during this time, I was inspired to create something musically with the same kind of atmosphere.
____________
✨ Highlights:
-I switch from a waltz 3/4 to 4/4 time towards the end of the piece. This is usually not common and can almost create a disconnect, but musically it sounded good to me so I chose to go ahead with it.
-I also wanted to experiment with going back and forth between parallel major/minor keys but still keep it tonal and palatable, so the main melodies are quite simple and similar so as to keep the composition cohesive.
-There's quite a few accidentals in this piece (some of which are unconventional). And sometimes the bassline is moving up and down chromatically, but at other times it felt appropriate to also throw some unconventional notes and chords into the mix.

Oh my god, Edin! This speaks sooo many volumes. It reminds me deeply of my first story, which was a classic prince and Princess with castles and magic gardens kind of thing. I can seriously envision wandering through an old, academia-esque city listening to this. Then the ending is almost like a lament for past memories to come back, but guarantees a return for that love. AaahhhhuGh I just love when your pieces get my gears going. Thank you again, Edin. I hope this put you in just as a good mood as I 😊❤

You have such a gentle touch with the piano it sounds so light and beautiful, most of the waltzes I've heard are very dramatic so this is a welcomed change :). I really like how sweet it sounds and orderly and then at 1:13 it gets kind of chaotic which to me tells a bit of a story before moving into this sort of sad view. Like a normal manor waltz and a sequence of it burning or falling apart and then some character standing amongst the rubble. The ending especially really touches me, I've been having a tough time lately but haven't really built anything up so it's just like I'm standing there with nothing xD. All of your pieces I've heard have this touching feeling, like a very light and gentle one and it's sweet I really like it. Anyway I really like it it's a good change of pace! I hope you continue to experiment since I feel like experimenting always produces surprisingly fun results? And I can still hear your style in here too even though it's a bit different. Lovely again!

That's actually quite amazing you could follow the storytelling through the music. Do you compose too? I'm sure you'd be a good composer to pick up on such nuance. At the end of the day music is an emotional and storytelling medium. As for my softer touch, thank you! It really only developed after thousands of hours of (boring) exercises/scales 😵

@@EdinKaso_Composer I'm on the newer side to piano so composing isn't really something for me right now, considering I can barely play with two hands. And yeah I like how it surpasses all languages and brings out feeling. Sometimes in life for me feelings get clogged up since I have to push them back, music always manages to bring them out it really has a special touch, especially piano and that's why I like it so much :). I really love all of your compositions so far, I feel like you always have something in mind when you play them. Just curious, when making compositions do you have like a story/tone/idea in mind already or do you go with the music first?

@@EdinKaso_Composer No problem man! Rachmaninoff is one of my favorite composers, but you genuinely inspired me to compose a Chopin styled piece, after hearing how amazing this composition was. The greatest thing too about your composition is though I do hear the inspiration from Chopin, it is completely authentic, you have your own original sense of creativity, and I can hear it. You should be proud of yourself man.

Again: repeating augmented “octaves” in following measures (with E flat and E natural as well later on) with only 3 voices and in a clearly tonal piece I find it a odd choice, it really sounds like a mistake

Generally speaking it’s a fairly nice piece to listen to, not sure about the 4/4 “fill” I don’t know if there are examples in literature of metric changes in a waltz (in any metric except ternary ones) but anyway!

@@vhegoit works pretty well in moonlight sonata mvt 1, so I don't think it's problematic. In the end voice leading is much more important than consonance.

Thanks for the input! So I personally believe simple isn't always a bad thing, and complexity just for the sake of complexity isn't good either. I think context and serving the purpose of the music are far more important. At the end of the day, if your music has moved someone in the way you intended I think it has accomplished it's purpose :)
