Very cool. I made my first hand drill fire using a cattail spindle on a yucca hearth.

Finally got my mom to figure out what I was talking about the other week. A lady was digging some up yesterday morning from the side of the road. My mom finally cracked and said oh cattails...cattails attract snakes..don’t want none of those. Not sure if it’s true but may seem so if they’re in wet/moist areas.

I'm trying to find someone who is spouting the seeds and simply eating the sprouts, rather than cooking most of the life out of the plant. I suspect that nutritionally, seed sprouts are the best part of the plant, yet apparently they are overlooked and mostly wasted. Rumor has it that the "manna" from heaven that Moses's people received, was the knowledge to sprout their seeds, rather than make flour from them.
