My father was in the First United States Army band during World War II. When Canadian prime minister Lester B. Pearson visited on one occasion, they greeted him with this, even though the the "official" Canadian anthem, at the time, was God Save the King.

I want to be myself, central left, but my loyalty to The Crown, makes the left ostracise me... Everyone should be free to pursue their own ideals, but that is not allowed now days. Whatever way I am forced towards, there is one ideal I cannot abandon: God save the King!

We should all bear in mind the Constitutional safeguards that we share with a Constitutional Monarchy. Whilst the Monarch is Head of state no one can take over the Government as its in their name. Whilst they are Monarch they hold power over the judiciary meaning no one can take over the courts ultimately they are head of the armed forces no one can take them over as they pledge alegance to the Crown not the PM. In short the Monarch's duty is to deny power to those that may wish to harm their people's. God Save King Charles III 🇨🇦 🇬🇧

Thank you to the uploader for preserving this beautiful historic anthem!. A happy Canada / Dominion Day this July 1st to all throughout Canada and who are Canadian but whom are abroad. I personally love this anthem more and more I listen to it. I even brought my replica Red Ensign out today for a bit sadly no one seemed to recognize it, but it’s been a while since it was used so it’s understandable.

Beautiful! Had never heard this version before. How come they still say King in 57, wasn't the late Queen Elizabeth the regent then?!

The recorded version is said to be Queen, but the current UK has a king, so it has subtitles with King.

As a Québecois Australian who loves to visit Canada Often, I love this anthem, but it would be nice if they mentioned something about France. The hard work of the French will be noticed one day. 🇫🇷🇨🇦🇦🇺

This is one of the earliest lyirical versions, later revisions help fix that. "To make good the oversight of the French heritage in Canada, some later editions changed "The thistle, shamrock, rose entwine" to read "The lily, thistle, shamrock, rose" but no French translation of the song has been located. There is however a poem written by Octave Crémazie before 1862 - "Salut, ô ma belle patrie!" - paired with Muir's melody in the songbook Choix de chansons"
