Great little boat. A bit younger than my Rival 32 but they built them well back then. Droopy headlining and Westerly go together but lots of options for sorting that out. She has a good hull shape and with a fin keel I bet she goes well to windward. Andy UK

I love the Windermere story. I learned to sail in a Westerly Windrush, the 25' version of the Nomad on Windermere. I had a 1979 Centaur until a couple of years ago too. The Konsort is a cracking boat and should sail well with decent sails. I cruise Western Scotland now, it's great. Off to look for more videos of the Konsort now LOL.

Interesting, My Konsort is a bilge keel version and sails really well, I fitted a Beta 25hp engine two years ago and that provides plenty of power. I sailed a Westerly Griffon (more or less a Konsort but only 26ft) 1700 miles round the U.K. and Ireland with a mate 3 years ago, extremely tough little boats but comfortable enough to live on for 5 months. I think you will enjoy her and I look forward to seeing how your project progresses.

I grew up sailing on my dads Folkboat moored over on Belle Island. We must have rowed past your dads boat (pre 1986) I’m 63 now, dad (Ron Lucas) has gone. Oddly, I’m thinking of buying a Konsort which is why your channel came up. Loved your enthusiasm.

I would take out the headliner and paint it with a thick textured paint. The padding under the plastic has turned to dust. My Centaur was twin keel a and very stable.

I think you are exactly right Mark- the Westerly roof panels are horrendous- anything simple to clean with simple aesthetic lines would be a blessing!

If you can get the headlining down in 1 piece you could replicate it maybe and use a similar edge trim finish? Using similar material again so maybe another 50 yrs service isn't so bad. Probably came asunder due to moisture but adhesives have moved on a lot. Coming from a seasoned joiner is all. Looking forward to your updates...

I have to keep the 'racer' bit down to a minimum I think otherwise there will be a mutiny before we are afloat... BUT I am sure I can wangle in a few things on the back of 'improved efficiency'!

I worked at Westerly for a couple of years and my Dad had a Konsort Duo (yeah he was the one :-))

Is your Centaur big keel or fin? I like the Konsort but it would be a more practical boat for me in some ways if it could dry out easily on twin keels!

Lovely boat. Spent weeks looking for different westerlys. Is this ideal as a first learning boat?

I looked at several Westerlys and what put me off was the sagging vinyl. Once its gone it is very difficult to fix effectively.

Typical Racer buys a rare deep fin keel version to mock the PHRF Rating - I believe it is set for the bilge keel version.
