This not only brings back great memories but, tears to my eyes. I watched this on live television as a kid, with my dad. He's now gone & I miss my dad & mom a lot !

Hal Holbrook, right? Thought so. I remember watching this on TV when I was a kid. This guy is so convincing on the rambling dementia, the COPD apnea gasps, and the drowsing off that it was easy to attribute the physical weakness to Twain instead of the character he was describing.

I also remember seeing this performance as a boy with my father. It has stuck with me all these years as the best thing I ever saw TV.

I had a co-worker who said there was no such as an accident. (he was an old black guy, although he was kind of a tough guy before I knew him, apparently). I said to him, as a 25 year old college kid, "you mean if you are in an intersection crossing the street and a drunk driver plows into you and kills you or breaks your legs, somehow that's not an accident you couldn't do anything about?" and he rather wisely said "if you hadn't decided to cross the street at that moment without paying attention, you wouldn't have been hit!" I thought he was strange but I have come to think over time that he thought of his own youth and he decided his decisions led to his vicissitudes and misadventures in his life.
