Carol became one of my fave characters with her becoming Captain Marvel in the comics. I had a passing interest in her because of her comics connection to Rogue. That said. I enjoy her MCU version as well. The thing I’m most looking forward to is the dynamic between the 3 main ladies Kamala, I instantly loved in the comics and she is no different in the MCU. Lover her and her family. Monica was a huge part of my all time fave marvel book, Nextwave, so I’m stoked to see her really take off. She was great in WV. Mainly, I’m hoping for a good story, the right mix of humor and action and drama.

I really like that Monica's powers almost seem support based. She described them as seeing, which doesn't immediately sound offensive. In the slo-mo fight scene she was standing in the back, not running forward. I guess Skrull shape-shifting is support, but they are also super strong. Iron Man had a lot of utility, but also had missiles, and energy blasts. Hawkeye too, but I would describe him as ranged, not support. Variety is the spice of life and I'm interested by the story telling possibilities of a support hero. Edit: actually, she was firing a laser in that scene. Still, I have the feeling that she will have a lot of neat tricks that you would want on your team.

I think it might take place after Secret Invasion. It would seem odd for Fury to have just spoken with Carol then all of a sudden he acts like they haven't spoken in a long time. But I guess we'll have answers after Secret Invasion ends and when this movie comes out.

I'd bet my bottom dollar that this is after Secret Invasion... especially after the suit up in the last episode. And, because at the beginning of SI we're told Fury hasn't been back on Earth since just after the blip (probably Tony's funeral), but he is clearly on Earth to find Kamala in this film... unless... maybe... he's been replaced by a Skrull.

Great reaction! I think I'm most excited to further Monica's story. I really loved her in Wandavision, and I'm hoping they address the grudge she appeared to harbor against Carol. Kamala being Kamala is the best, and more Iman is a terrific thing! I love Carol, and I love Brie playing Carol, and I want them to give her something to do. This is an Oscar-winning actress who is more than capable.

I know I'm sounding like a broken record in your comments but I haven't seen anyone else suggesting that you take a look at stargate. You have the most insightful genuine reactions and I haven't seen anyone like you react to Stargate SG1 you could probably skip the 1994 film and go straight to SG1 it was made to be accessible. If you like the Expanse, Firefly and Battlestar Galactica you will love Stargate SG1 the first couple seasons show their age with some of the CGI but it still did really well with what it had to work with. You get strong complex female characters, soldiers, doctors, scientists, archeologists, aliens, robotic bugs, spies, space battles and full on conventional land warefare between the US military and alien armies.

I loved both WandaVision and Ms Marvel. But I have a bias towards Ms Marvel though my friend did comics for both Ms. and Captain Marvel. The Beastie Boys Intergalactic Remix is sick. Oscar winner Brie Larson lead the highest gross female movie in history AND the first female superhuman billion dollar film. Instead of a solo CM2 movie and learning WTH happened to Danvers during The Snap, resolving The Skrulls' arc, or showing Carol as "The Annihilator"; Marvel is pursuing a cosmic team adventure. Btw, "The Bands" are part of Captain Mar-Vel lore, but it's entirely different in the comics. Love Monica's powers, but I need Carol's intelligence to shine.

I'm concerned. I like what Larson's done with Captain Marvel(haven't seen anything outside of the Marvel films), but it's been an ugly year for anticipated blockbusters, and Marvel has had a bumpy path since Infinity War. Regarding billionaires getting richer, don't forget the tiny minority of actors & directors worth hundreds of millions. There are actors who get $20M - $50M per film. I'm guessing they could get by on $10M per film, and the leftover $10M-$-40M spread out among the rest of the cast & crew would be a huge bump for them.

It's more than just about wages. If you only get a contract for a few days, $300/day isn't going to pay the bills. Acting and writing for film and television can be very precarious. Also, streaming services have upended the old models of compensation for both actors and writers. With the advent of AI, there could be a further squeezing of job losses, especially for minor roles.

I'm nervous about this plot. "Entangled our light-based powers" sounds like pseudo-science / actually-magic-bs, and that's usually a sign that the writers don't personally care about superheroes. This is how we get the boring villains and boring action sequences that have characterized phases four and five. The best Marvel movies are written by comics nerds who care about how these characters really work.

It's really messed up how executives in Hollywood treat these actors and some of them are very well known actors like Mandy Moore that was on the TV show "This is Us". She said she has received residual checks for as low as one penny, and another girl that played in "Orange is the New Black" said that they barely had money to catch a cab to the set because the show was filmed at the studios in Queens New York. Now you know if they treat them like that imagine how the people behind the scenes the trades people are treated.

0:43 - It isn't exactly easy to find a world remote/obscure enough that the Kree wouldn't find the Skrulls there but capable (and willing if inhabited) to support a million refugees. As for what Carol was doing during the Blip (some speculation/extrapolation here): * Even in the lead up to the Snap, there was a lot of disruption to the established balance of power in the universe. ** Asgard was destroyed (and even before that, it seems like "Odin" was ignoring a lot of their responsibilities), so they weren't defending the planets connected via Bifrost like they normally would have. ** Thanos attacked Xandar before Infinity War started to get the Power Stone. His forces probably would have wiped out most/all of the Nova Corps in the process. ** The only other major power we know about are the Kree and they tend to be expansionary. Without their peace treaty with Xandar, they were likely trying to grab more planets. Given Carol's history with them, there probably would be some conflict there. * As she said in Endgame, "I'm covering a lot of territory. The things that are happening on Earth are happening everywhere, on thousands of planets."

The fact that the MCU was actually a self-contained, coherent, limited "whole" was one of the biggest selling points for me personally, and the whole 'multiverse' thing in the comics was one of the reasons I fell out of those as well. Things got sloppy in comics once the multiverse was included: the stakes are reduced to nothing, because there's always another copy of someone you can pull in again; you can explain away any writing plotholes or the like with a 'multiverse!" excuse; and you have to constantly expand the 'big bad guy' to ludicrous levels in order to present a constantly 'bigger' threat -- all of which we've seen happen already in the MCU now that they've introduced the same. I'm still interested in seeing how some stories pan out, but most of them anymore...? I'll just wait for them to show up on D+ instead.

This will sound a bit weird I guess, but I asked ChatGPT what it thought about AI writing stories and other creative things and it told me that at least currently, AI would not be able to do it nearly as good as humans can because all it can do is piece together concepts from multiple sources, but there would be no nuance to it because AI currently can not understand the significance of what it copies. It just recognises pieces of patterns and combine them by a set of static rules. So there is no creativity in an AI written story and some of the choices AI would make would not make any sense to a human because AI would not recognise the significance of many connections that a human would see. Oh course, if I were paranoid, I'd think that was just what ChatGPT wanted me to believe so I would be lolled into a false sense of security... 🐒

Going by the MCU's record so far what it looks like in trailers seldom ever translates into what it is. I can't name a single film that follows a comic book storyline effectively (Ragnarok is quite literally a feature length joke compared to its comic book plot) - they are all pale, vapid shadows of the comic book plots in every sense.

I think Captain Marvel has been pretty busy dealing with the Kree. I really can't see them taking her defection easily, and they are one of the big players in our galaxy. Which means being absent definitely makes earth less of a target for a surprise visit by a group of Kree bombardment ships out of spite.
