That's one thing that's so brilliant about this movie: they code Cameron Diaz's character (Diaz'?) as the femme fatale, as the one who uses her sexuality to get ahead, who will ultimately betray our hero (in this case, Stanley). And the reporter is coded as the "nice girl" that Stanley *should* get with. Because of how the camera frames them, because of how they dress and talk, because of how they look, and because the reporter seems to like Stanley, whereas Cameron Diaz seems to like The Mask... but then they turn that trope on its head and it's Cameron Diaz who is the good girl, and the reporter who is selfish. It's great, I love it. And my god, the casting of Cameron Diaz is insanely, impossibly lucky. She's so perfect for that type of character, it's hard to imagine the movie without her. It was her first movie, she had to be convinced to be an actress in the first place, but now look at her.

I think the only thing the movie is missing is a chance for Diaz's character to get a turn with the Mask. It'd be hard to pull-off, but it could really flesh-out her character a touch more. And Diaz has the comedy chops for it, though they didn't necessarily know that at the time.

The Mask is one of the all time classics & basically cemented Jim Carrey as one of Hollywood’s A-grade actors. For me, his greatest role by far. Also worth noting this is actually a superhero movie too. The movie is based off a comic book character of the same name by Dark Horse Comics in the early 90s, but it is a totally different story to the one you just saw now. Some say he’s actually more of a supervillain there as he does kill mercilessly & is rather sadistic throughout & from reputation he does die in the end. Please keep up the excellent work with the channel. Easily one of my favourites on KZbin. Love it!

WFRR? is a technical masterpiece. It even spawned an animation-industry term, "bumping the lamp", which means to put a large amount of effort into a detail that only a few observant people will directly notice. In this case, it's a scene in which Roger is in a room with a bumped overhead lamp, and the animators had to work like crazy to keep Roger's shadow in-line with the wildly-swinging light source to keep the illusion that he was actually a 3D object in the room. It's a sign of putting in the effort in even the smallest aspects to make the entire illusion work perfectly. Red Letter Media has a saying for such small details that you may not notice directly, but your subconscious picks-up and gives you a feeling of either reality or unreality; "You may not have noticed it, but your brain did". An example of a failure in this regard is several of the Transformers movies, where massive heavy robots are supposed to be impacting a city street, but none of the parked cars or street trees are moving in the slightest. The production of WFRR? is a fascinating story, and worth looking-up if you have the time and interest.
