You'd think when someone with numerous mental health issues and a history of violence confesses to an FBI agent that he is a danger to society he would be put on some kind of "do not sell this person a gun" list but I guess that's un-American.

Some of my mom's friends have a relative with severe mental health issues, she's messaged people claiming to be part of isis trying to recruit them and clearly could do something dangerous for herself and others. It's been reported, but until she actually does something, no one will step in. It's sickening and it's bullshit. And just my luck she has a delusion that I should have been her child since my dad took her to prom back in the day. 🥲 I've only met this lady a few times and block her profiles anytime I see them pop up.

So fucked up story. I worked in an office for a company that had a strict no phones allowed policy for copyright reasons. It was so strict that it was a serious problem for some of the women in the office who needed to answer emergency family calls in rare scenarios. So one day a woman raised hell becuse that exact situation happened and it almost ended very poorly for her. She asked our direct manager this question “what happens if someone just bust in here shooting? We can’t even call for help!” The manager looked at her coldly and said “go back to your desk.” Sent chills down my spine, they 100% expected you to die in that scenario

"I don't want to WASTE MY TIME doing something like that. ITS A HASSLE" This is a clear red flag. Brandon's first argument on that is not about humanity or the unthinkable, but he said he "has no time" or too lazy to do it. You kinda need to remember to separate the internet from reality. MLP is not intended for psychopaths to gather around, there's more people that watch that stuff without having harmful tendencies. As someone with anxiety, depression, and who likes My Little Pony (it was a childhood thing that stuck + I'm also autistic and it's one of my special interests), I **swear to god** we aren't all like this. 😭 This guy had further issues and depression, anxiety, OCD, liking MLP or other childish things, ect., does NOT mean they were direct causes in his psychotic tendancies. Yes, they played their own roles in this chillng story, but the red flags that showed up had more to do with destructive behaviour and not getting proper help. I understand why he'd be attached to these characters, but it's batcrap cazy that he would kill over fictional ponies. And as crazy as it might be to hear this, Apple Jack would jave been heart broken to hear something like this would happen over her, and she's not even real. MLP is a show about colourful ponies learning about friendship, this boy was just psychotic and happened to like it. Special interests and mental health DO NOT EQUAL murderer in the making. Sorry for the rant, I just find it really important for this to be known, because alot of things like this are more due to the system failing people when they were younger, abuse and bullying, while alot of people just see "oh, obsessed with My Little Pony?" and run away with the take of "OFC he'd be crazy bc he likes a show for kids". Keep an open mind and look for real issues and injustices in the kids' life. Be good people.

@@daylinhesford3116 i think its becouse they are ponies and not humans. Ive watched that type of cutesy show before and the apeal is that the kind and friendly creatures arent human. People with trust issues steming from the mistreatment of others dont trust humans, but they will trust ponies. I know forsure that if the cartoon ponys in that show where replaced by live action humans their kindness and good nature wouldnt feel magical anymore it would just feel false and untrue. Its the same reason why people feel more empathy towards stray dogs than homeless people. "Animals are good, humans are bad" mentality. For fans of this type of show, the point is to forget that its even a show and instead be "transported" into another, better world. These worlds are usualy ruled by kindness and friendship unlike our world which is ruled by fear and exploitation. People learn from their respective worlds, the ponies learn kindness is real and the people who watch the show only believe so in the context of the show, not the real world, thus making the moral lessons meaningless. The misstreatment and isolation causes this detachment from humanity and love for inhuman characters. Same reason anthro characters are popular. BASICLY: The show is popular with outcast becouse it presents a belivable "other world" where people are friendly and care for others. It is the perfect escape from reality. The moral lessons are only belivable in the cartoon, not in real life, thought.

I just wanted to applaud the worker Judy since no one is mentioning her. She helped direct her coworkers to get them out while he was firing into it through the turnstile and she also stayed herself and offered to direct the police inside to make it faster for them to look. She had no way of knowing he had ended himself, for all she knew he was there and she hadn't seen an officer yet. I really hate that the media/shows the person watched is being used as a scapegoat for causing their problems. As much as I can tell, MLP was a coping mechanism for his problems and mental issue, but indeed became an obsession, as to how neglectful the mother appeared to be with those red flags. He most likely did believe that would be the only thing he can trust, of course he'd freak out so easily. I really see it as moronic to solely blame the show for what he did. Even if it wasn't MLP, he would've had a different obsession that'd motivate him the same. He was already acting like a future school shooter.

This kid has shown so many signs. He's even verbalized his own fights with his mental state and how it affected is personal life as well. He clung on to a figure that gave him comfort during his own battle and after it was ripped away he still gave warning. Maybe as a cry for help in his own way. Despite her reaching out to everybody and anybody...they gave her no help...including the police, social services, the hospital and the psyche ward. She tried to kill my sister and her husband on multiple occasions. There is no help for those in need when facing a child who is mentally out of control or at least not in PA. She was finally diagnosed with Bipolar (age 20) and lives with her biological mother, who also has bipolar. The funny thing is we found out they knew she had bipolar, but didn't want to label her at such a young age...so no medicine and no help! Unreal!

They're EMERGENCY dispatchers, not your security blankets. THeir job is to asses the situation, determine weather there is an emergency and what type of emergency as to send the proper service to the location (another thing they need to learn before hand). Depending on the time of day, your average dispatcher has been exposed to such lovely calls including but not limited to: children calling for help after a parent is injured and unresponsive, domestic disputes (often ongoing during the time of the call), various medical emergencies involving scared panicking people, or just plain old dumb shit, all the while they have more calls on the line. Day after day, after day. If you are hesitant to call emergency services because you're afraid somebody is not gonna kiss your booboo and tell you everything is going to be alright then you simply aren't having an emergency. When our car crashed and my mother now had a brand new joint between her elbow and her her shoulder, i was relieve when i got into a spot that had a signal. I didn't care about the tone the rando on the other side of the call answered. When my father had a heart attack, the only glimmer of hope my, at the time, 10 year old ass had was a quick response and the ambulance that arrived in a few minutes. One of the nurses that was present at the time, that now works with me, told me that she is sorry that they lost sight of me when that happened. Who cares? THey came to try and save my father's life, wasting time on me would have only decreased their already slim chances of bringing him back. You're afraid of calling "dillholes" who work as a connection between people in need and on site crews who're supposed to help them? Pray to whatever god you think might be listening so nothing bad actually happens to you because we both know you wouldn't be able to take it.

@@ipresnell Purchasing a gun that way is illegal. I am going to guess you are just gaslighting to push your want for all guns to be banned because you are a member of a political party that says that, not because you put any thought into the subject or have any concrete understadning. Criminals buy illegal guns that are smuggled in through the border on the south all the time just like drugs. both kill people, and drugs kill and ruin more lives than guns, but I don't see you or anyone pushing for more sever drug laws. In fact, the government provides drugs to people in the most liberal cities. I guess its easier to control gun addicts than it is to control gun owners. You know what else is illegal, murder. Oddly enough, like with drugs, anti-gun people push for lighter criminal sentences and removed the death penalty for murder. Those laws becoming more lax are totally ok with most anti-gun people. It seems the anti gun thing isn't about saving lives and making things safe, it's about getting rid of something that seems scary. It ignores the fact that the number of violent situations stopped by guns far out weigh the loss of life by guns, but weighing factors isn't something people who just hate an object or want to fit in with their political party want to think abut. It seems like laws do not prevent any of these things, especially if no one is reporting them. You make more laws and good people don't get guns but those intent on breaking the "don't do murder" law aren't going to hesitate the "not allowed to buy a gun law." Also, to legally purchase a gun you need to have a permit which requires you to be run through multiple federal background checks and submit fingerprints to law enforcement. Then each time you go to purchase a gun you are forced to wait a few days while you are again run through federal checks. Each gun sale, even private ones must be reported to the state and federal government as well. No where is it legal to just sell a gun at a yard sale with no record or reporting. People may do it, but like drugs and stealing, and robbery, and murder it is not legal despite what some disingenuous person on the internet claims. If every FedEx employee was carrying a gun, this murdered (which I'll remind you there are laws against murder yet this kid still did it) would have been stopped right away. It has happened in the past a great many times, armed law abiding citizens shut down a would be murdered.

When the woman realized it was an officer and not Brandon, the sound of her voice took my breath and made me tear up. I just remember the relief I felt when I saw the cops the night I experienced the worst thing of my life. My door was kicked in while I was home alone with my 4yo son. He had a huge kitchen knife in each hand and one came only a few inches from my face. Every time I thought he wasn’t paying attention, I’d try to get my son and myself out the door to run. He caught me about 3 times and that’s when I came face to face with the knife. So I’d just throw my body over my son to protect him as best as I could. Finally we were able to get out without him knowing and I ran!! Barefoot and piss pouring rain, carrying my 4yo and trying to run like a track star. All I could think was “don’t fall. Make it to the neighbor” because I felt like he was behind me and knew he’d stab me if I fell. I get to the neighbor and run in the door and asked for her phone and dialed 911. The dispatcher wanted me to walk back over to meet with them (they’d already cleared my house), but I asked her to send a cop over to walk with me. I was too afraid he’d be hiding in a bush or something. There’s a bit more to the story, but that would take an even lonnngerrr comment. But that’s the gist of it all. So I can relate to that feeling. Though I’ve never been through this situation and pray I never have to!! It just brought back memories when I heard her say that.

I don't know what the guy was like but that stung for me as someone who has tried to end their own life. It's no wonder her kid turned into a monster, his mom was probably more dismissive of his problems than she let on or probably even encouraged him to bottle it up. The mom tried to get him help more than once. That goes to show that real "help" is VERY hard to come by. I had a normal, nice friend with a psychotic son. At 2 years old he spit on and cursed a priest who was baptising him. He wrote in notebooks that he was going to r-pe his little sister and kill all of them. She never gave up on him and tried so hard to get him help. Later on he was in the news for calling her from jail and telling her he was going to get out and kill her. So many parents out there feel helpless and alone because there is so little they can do. Professionals are not taught how to really help people, just how to medicate them... Which can make them worse. I truly believe this mom thought he was going to use the gun on himself.

@@AdamK370 Because people look for 'explanations'/solutions/answers. They find it difficult to comprehend there isn't always a solution or an answer. They don't consider other issues like, maybe the mother had her own mental health issues and eventually gave up (buying a gun so he'd maybe end his life). She tried what she was capable of, but for outsiders it's never enough. It's always easy to say if you're not living it. Personally I am most concerned the professionals in the field did not pick up on what could have been prevented, leaving less capable people (the mother) to solve the problem that's too big for her. It's really clear a majority of people don't seem to get it that this is a common issue and could happen to anyone. And this case is a prime example that WILL happen again.

The "Here's your sign" comment he made against his mom was a direct attack at her for failing to stop his father from killing himself but her comment back to him showed she didn't care about him. It seems she not just resented Brandon but genuinely hated him as well at some point. I think he had such an obsession with MLP because it was probably one of the only things that calmed him down and provided an escape from his thoughts for the time being. He probably internalized himself into the show as a further escape and it wouldn't surprise me if he made fanfics with him and Applejack. It's sad, really. He held so much hatred against his own mother and felt she failed him by leaving his father and allowing the father to hang himself but it's more sad seeing how much of a failed system we have when it comes to seeing a mental health specialist and the proof of what happens when these people finally accept the thought of "I am now truly alone. Nobody cares." I think the mother brought him to the gun store hoping he would kill himself that night. A sad story and a sad outcome.

Having a fragile father didn't help either. Kids look up to their parents for signs of how to handle life. What this kid needed was a survivor as a lead influencer even if the mom was toxic. If the mother had showed concern for her son's weakness instead of being tough to someone regressed to elementary school age it may have encouraged him to try to do something with his life. Having a father figure is very important and my instinct says the mother had little clue of his needs.

@@heroinboblivesagain5478 no, i think it comes from the annoyance people feel when they hear someone says that video games/shows cause violence (in this case My little pony). Blaming it on something else instead of the actual problems is irresponsible on their part and it overshadows the kids deteriorating mental health and this video is like "oooh ponies." I would know since my dad doesn't let me talk to my mom anymore because he thinks she's the problem but i've had mental health issues for years.

The problem with deciding to not own a gun is that you are also deciding that you completely trust the police to keep you safe. Recent events have shown us that they are not folks you should trust at least 100% of the time with your life, and some places have police response times that rival the cooking time for Easy Mac. This kid should not have had a gun, and his mother is partially to blame for enabling this to begin with, but saying that “nobody needs a gun” is a sentiment that goes out the door as soon as you try taking a walk in downtown Baltimore Anyway point being the brony kid is cringe and his mom was derelict

I think for me, the most saddest thing is is that I understand having that level of obsession. It rots your brain eventually. You don’t see it at first because all your thinking about is how much you love that person/character/object, whatever it is, and you need them to survive. You think you were made to be with them, and when you come to the realisation that none of it was ever real or the person you are infatuated over is already dead, it can make or break a person so bad…

yea ngl i know a person like that and their entire wellbeing is built on their obsession. It is like the character is a fundamental card in the card house that is their mental health. Take it away and everything will crumble. And it is very very easy to "take it away" so the person is super super anxious and possessive over the character. I get that to some degree too but these days my own obsession is more autistic fun and relief and I could technically do without. I just... decided I didnt want to be so vulnerable like that.

idk. ive been obsessed with things that dont exist to insane degrees but ive never actually believed that any of them existed. i always knew that what i enjoyed was a fictional satisfactio. i feel like, for someone to get to the point where they dont realize this, there has to be something deeper going on and the obsessesion is likely either a coping mechanism or an avoidance tactic. i dont think its even close to the main problem here. he really doesnt seem like a "my little pony murderer" as much as a "murderer who likes my little pony".

@@masync183 ik several ppl like that (minus the murder part lol) and from my observation its a coping mechanism for severe depression (+anxiety). They start believing their waifu is real somewhere in another realm and cling to that as a last straw to life. Just like some people become religious these folks start to cling to their belief that the character who brings them happiness is there, loves and guides them. to some degree ive been there myself (and still kinda am) just ik its my brain and me and lots of imagination. But thats not enough for some folks. Deep down they know about reality but choose to ignore it. Once they fully realize its not real i think its better to supervise them so they dont off themselves in case they arent stable yet. That being said im against reality checking them. Any straw to life is good. Let them believe. Once they have stabilized again they can start questioning but before that I'd advise to let them be.

I'm a brony myself, not to be a hipster but I was since the very first generation lol but as such I can say with absolute confidence that this kid they talked about wasn't really a fan at heart. Maybe more like me and Sword Art Online, I'm a fan of Asuna but not a fan of Sword Art. He might've had an obsession with characters but wasn't actually a brony because it is impossible for something so completely pure could make someone do something so evil.
