The MASSIVE ISSUE with the SIM RACING Community

The big problem for me in this ‘community’ is how dismissively every racing game that isn't a sim or doesn't fulfil the community's high standards has been talked about in recent years. Everything has to be as realistic as possible and everything has to have good online multiplayer. Everything else doesn't count. People have forgotten what video games are about. Nowadays everything turns into a competition.

I find comparisons interesting and sometimes illuminating. I like driving the same car and track combo in different sims to see how developers took different approaches. But "best"? I'm an old guy who's never driven anything faster than an AMC Javelin and that was almost 50 years ago so I'm not able to judge realism. What I am able to judge is which is the best at tricking my brain into thinking I'm in a real car while I'm sitting in my basement pretending to be a race driver, an activity that's not so different from what my grandson does with his Hot Wheels. Other people with other brains than mine might be more effectively tricked by sims different than the ones that trick mine. If all you cared about was physics and tire models you'd be able to sim race with a spreadsheet, but that's not going to give you the illusion of driving a race car -- that's where the art of sim racing development comes in.

I would argue that a simulator doesn't have to be totally accurate to be a simulator. If it is simulating the experience in some reasonably accurate way then I would say it is a simulator.

A lot of people give a s***...You may need to study at least 15 years of sim racing before making this kind of affirmation. History including forum discussions, sim releases, sim successes, sim flops, sim economic ecosystem, modding ecosystem etc . "The who care if it's realistic or not if it's fun'' is a recent wave of thinking that started with the release of AMS 2 which was released proudly as a sim but failed to do so until today. AMS2 has never been considered as a real sim by the community. AMS2 managed to have the best VR support and a fun arcadish handling so this became a prime argument for its success. AMS2 is a one title of its kind. So instead of being categorized as an arcade game the AMS2 community promoted it as a "Fun sim" and try to defend this at all cost. It's like being the cool guy who wants to be friend of everyone and try to please everyone...sim racing is way deeper than that.

you are literally the guy he's talking about in the video lmao. If AMS2 isn't even a sim then what does that matter? Don't play it! It only matters because you feel the need to feel superior to other people over which video game you play.

@@DiscGolfLeagueMVP we just need correct physic and handling simple as that no need to turn around in circle. AMS2 still don't have and probably will never have... that. Hether you chose if it's a top notch arcade racing game in the same league as GT or Forza or a bad sim it's up to you.

The problem is with people who are sponsored by some brands and the trolls. Sim-racing is like the rivalry between COD and BF. Who cares? It’s just a game! It’s not real life, not even close! Some people need to get a life and enjoy the games. If you want reality, just rent a car and go to a track.😂

Im immediatelly gonna say .. the point of a sim game is to feel as real life and as real life accurate as possible and the game that does that the best according to real racing drivers is the best sim and obv that is iracing that i dont play and acc that i play .Just play forza horizon then
