I always feel like a piece of shit (pardon my French) when I read through a novel and come away with just the story and when I look it up I find so much I was totally clueless about. Thanks so much, beautiful visuals and voice-work.

Just finished reading the novel. It's one of the most interesting books I've ever read, lots of things happened, and it kept my attention up to the last page. I felt sorry for Bulgakov that he burned his book at first, but I'm happy for him that he tried again and eventually his novel was published and read by tons of people worldwide. :) It still happened for him, though many years after his death, but I think deep down he's proud of it and him being able to share it with his friends atleast made him feel a bit happy and worth his while while he was alive..:)

Huh, that is weird... Did you get a notification of a reply to your comment? I wrote a really long reply, delving into my experiences catalysed by this book - and KZbin said: "comment submitted"... But now it's gone? That's really frustrating...

Master and Margarita was published a few decades after Bulgakov’s death, his wife finished editing the novel. And I believe it was first published in Italy. The full version became available in Russia only after perestroika.

You're thinking Zhivago. Dr. Zhivago was first published in Italy. M&M was serialized in a censored, abridged form in a Russian magazine in the 60's, then in its entirety in Paris.

Love this channel, sooo annoying! :) books i have read and cannot remember well - and this! I have a pristine copy hard back somewhere given to me by a lover long ago - his favourite book, and I never read it. He was heart broken that I did not, we parted, it has not been read these last decades. I still have it. I will not watch this video :) I may never read this book.

This is romantic in a way. But if you ever reconsider, it's truly an amazing work. :) (Apologies for the late reply.)

Please stop that punching background sound 🙏. It's extremely irritating. But otherwise thank you for the video essay

Unfortunately the narrator loses credence when they can’t even correctly pronounce the names of such literary titans as Goethe and Molière.

It does deduct some credibility. I quick trip to Wikipedia would address that.
