When this album came out in '73 I was in college. Could not afford it. Upon graduation in '74 and a paycheck, I purchased it. The entire album is great however this song is the album. There is not a better explanation in song of the transatlantic slave trade. I was at this concert in Atl. The O'jays delivered the very best social music in the 70's and some great pure soul/R&B too.

When I first checked this song out, I didn’t know what it was about. While listening with my earphones, I realized what it was about and my heart stopped for what seemed like forever. Instantly, I teared up and was filled with so much emotion! This song is very, very, very powerful! Had I seen this live at their concert, I wouldn’t have been able to stop crying and would’ve been distraught and emotional! Just watching this video of the live performance had me crying. ALL PRAISE TO OUR STRONG ANCESTORS 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I remember when I saw them do this song in the mid-70s in DC. It was a little different then. As the fog filled the stage they disappeared into it and what seems like only seconds they came back out with torn clothes on. I don't know if they had chains on or not but that was a very emotional and powerful moment of the show.

I was told that they appeared on did this song on Soul Train and they came out in chains. If this is true, I wish I could find the video.

@@louisjames9002 Wow. What a small world it is. If you're speaking about the mid-70s when you saw them then I was there as well or at least another show if they performed more than one night.

@@thewordkeeper One of those shows one never forgets and as a matter of fact I saw it twice - one night night working as a US Park Policemen and the next night on a date because I wanted to share the experience!!
